I think he has finally lost any marbles he had in his tiny little brain!

Will the Epstein files be enough to turn the tide with his supporters?

Absolutely not. He has been masterful in building a cult and there is nothing he can say or do to turn them off

Why? He’s bought industry back, their stock markets are booming, he’s reduced the cost of pharmaceuticals, stopped Illegal immigration, reduced pharmaceuticals prices, has stopped government wastage, exposed corruption, pays less into NATO, is currently passing a bill stopping big companies buying up single occupancy & first homes & bought gas prices down. He is America first hence why the European leaders don’t like him because it means we have to pay more for the things America had subsidised. Whilst his approval rated has dropped in America if an election was run tomorrow he’d still win.

Where has he reduced the price of pharmaceuticals.

Illegal immigration on the Southern border is reduced but II is not stopped.

Where and how did he stop government wastage.

MyPeachScroller · 22/01/2026 17:59

By golden dome, he means installing/implementing an Iron Dome Defense System like Israel has, but for the US.

Is this an attempt at satire?

So many people actually seem to have swallowed the coolaid and believe thie bollocks that my radar is breaking.

I don't think the people who voted for him have suddenly grown a brain.

This is the most worrying thing imo. He must surely have huge support in the GOP, still.....how??

Grifting. It's all about stuffing their pockets with as much money as they can carry away before, one way or another, they get the boot. It is disgusting. The majority of the simpletons who voted for Trump told get told that bit.

Yes and ‘they’ have a written constitution.

Uricon2 · 22/01/2026 19:32

The older among us may remember this, although Ronald Reagan (suspected of having dementia during his term) was Abraham Lincoln by comparison with the current incumbent.

What we have now is beyond satire.

I searched under the name and found nothing. And the quote did not include a date/time and I don't have time to sit here and scroll thru the whole thread. Hence I thought I would do the decent thing and ask.

Really? How odd. I did a "Find in page" search on the browser - Firefox - and both my name and CanadianJohn's popped up, with accompanying posts. Took me 20/30 seconds, perhaps.

The US dropped atomic bombs 1944 on the Japanese who then finally surrendered , this was punishment for Pearl Harbour in which US congress allowed Roosevelt to send troops and fight inWW2. If the Japanese had not bombed US ships at anchor in Pearl Harbour then had no intention of entering the war and remain
Isolationist.
It incorrectly stated in R4 other day that the UK benefited from the Marshall plan.
It was Europe in the 1980’s who poured money into Glasgow and Liverpool Stoke on Trent to repair WW2 war damage via the Garden Festivals, not the US.
We still had to repay the LendLease loans which took until year 2000, and the tanks and planes made in US factories had to be taken into Canada to be constructed and shipped on Canadian ships to the UK because US electorate did not want to fight in another European war.

Which is proving to be about as useful as a chocolate teapot. 3rd term and cancel the mid terms? Looking likely isn’t it.

Trump has managed to desecrate any notion of the rule of law. It’s abysmal how he’s been able to do this, but if nothing else it’s shown how it can be done when you have the right people in the right places, to get around the systems that are supposed to keep things in check, along with the cult of personality and a lot of money.

I hope in the longer term this brings change, and also wakes us up here just to how some are able to play the system and basically destroy it to get their way.

Dark times.

Uricon2 · 22/01/2026 20:14

I imagine there was much going on behind the scenes at Davos, perhaps pointing out (as I doubt his grasp of geography is great) where the US bases currently are in Europe and also two can play the tariff game.

He is building a golden dome!

🤦🏽‍♀️ It’s not an actual golden dome.

its a complex system for missile defence basically to detect missiles being launched from other countries and then possibly to take them down.

It's part of a fantasy that you can innovate out of Mutually Assured Destruction. Basically that the US could get to the point where they couldn't be hurt in a nuclear war because they would shoot down all the missiles. This is unlikely to ever work but it's tempting to believe in for 2 reasons:

  1. Nuclear war is existentially horrifying. I do believe Trump (and Musk and others in their circle) are genuinely worried about it. Hence if anything playing too nice with Putin when he was making threats of MAD.
  2. If you don't need to worry about MAD but other people.do, then you are insanely powerful. You can threaten others with nukes and they can't do anything to you. I don't think Trump would/wants to nuke anyone. I can definitely imagine him threatening to nuke countries to get their own way.

MAD was well, mad. As a means of ensuring peace it's not the best system but at least it was a type of system. I think the golden dome is really part of the current administration wanting to smash up everything in the belief they will be left with complete power once the dust settles. It does not bode well.

Again, I don't think it is possible that said golden dome would ever be a foolproof defence. But if Trump and his circle believe it would be then that's dangerous in itself. Plus in order to achieve that goal (total hegemony) they would need Canada, Greenland. So Trump is going to keep going back to threatening their autonomy again and again even if he is temporarily distracted. It's not just about rare earth IMO at least not for Miller etc.

I can well imagine Trump is thinking of it as being a literal.dome to be fair.

I said you were unreasonable only because I think he’s crazy like a fox as opposed to belonging in Bedlam. Wasn’t it Steve Bannon who used advise him? Dead Cat on the table strategy or something- ie to distract from the thing that needs distracting from, throw in something OUTRAGEOUS.
Trump wants distraction from the Epstein files. Period.

Bannon calls it “flood the zone with shit”.

JudgeJ · 22/01/2026 23:12

I used to visit the US a lot, before Trump (I haven't been since he was elected),
and I've been asked
(1) Is London near England? (or maybe it was the other way round, is England near London)
(2) Is Canada east of the US?

Years ago, when we told some very nice Americans that we lived in Northern England they said Oh, you mean Scartland.
