Thumbs up for Streeting

Just read Wes Streeting has got second biggest fall in waiting lists in 15 years and ambulances arriving 15 minutes faster. I think that's an achievement in just over a year in government. Bit sick of all the Labour bashing. Dread to think what NHS would be like under orher parties..Waiting lists 20 years long and ambulances arriving 2 weeks after you call ? A packet if painkillers £20. A trip to the GP £ 100 for ten minutes.

You are rather disparaging about the vast majority of the country. Yougov polls say 81% wouldn’t vote Labour tomorrow.

Out of interest, why shouldn’t Mumsnet users criticise a terrible government?

Another farage supporter I see!

I mean that big corporations buying up vets causes prices for treatment to go up to ridiculous levels...purely to cream off as much profit as possible, and that if the NHS goes to an insurance base then you can be sure the price of treatment will be similarly raised so that some prople make millions while the rest of us suffer by not being able to afford those treatments that will actually make us well. I just cant understand why people cant see this.

The revival of PFI under this government, PPP (just PFI 2.0), seems to have passed you by then? And here’s a link as I’m sure you’d love one…God only knows how’s much debt it will land the NHS in…

Labour MPs urge Reeves to drop private finance plans for NHS buildings

Chancellor told PFI-style schemes familiar from New Labour era are ‘fiscal illusion’ offering no value for money

@1apenny2apennyif the manipulation is so easy, why didn’t the previous government do it?

Actually, they did. Which is why the numbers started reducing under the last Tory government. But this government have really taken the idea and run with it. Here’s an excellent explanation of the situation of how the data is being used, for anyone who is actually interested in facts.

The bottom line is, does a fall in the waiting list = more people being treated and more appointments being created?

And the answer is, apparently, no one independent can tell from the available data - and that seems to be just how government like it…

Why is the planned care waiting list coming down and what does the data really tell us?

The waiting list for planned hospital care has plateaued and then come down over the past two years. In this QualityWatch analysis, Georgia Watson and Liz Fisher look at the factors affecting the size of the waiting list, and explore why a decrease doe...

You might have accidentally missed my question. Any thoughts?

Your responses appear to be part of the problems we face today. Sniping from the sidelines to just try and shut down conversation rather than actually engaging. We might actually be able to get somewhere.

Interesting. This government have made it clear that they are very interested in ‘narrative management’ which isn’t always compatible with the truth. Lucy Powell emphasised it in a now deleted part of her Deputy leadership speech. Why was it deleted? That’s a red flag.

‘Reducing waiting lists’ is obviously carefully chosen language that doesn’t necessarily mean that patients are being seen and treated but implies it.

Their approach seems to be to repeatedly tell us things like they are successfully focusing on growth of the economy and reducing the cost of living when everything they do is achieving the opposite effect.

Telling us that two tier policing is definitely not a thing while it has become apparent that entire police forces are run to the instructions of Islamists. Birmingham is not the only place this is happening.

I just love British politics. All the Tories are defecting to Reform, so that Reform is now becoming the old Tory party that broke Britain. And people who moaned about the old Tories and voted them out are now going to vote Reform.....so, effectively, voting back in the party they recently voted out. Honest to god. You just couldnt make it up. Oh ho the hokey cokey. Ahaaaaaaaa. 😂😂😂😂

What a load of bollox. Whether you agree or disagree with Tory policy, it is nothing like Reform. Reform have one policy which is around immigration. They haven't got a clue on any other subject. Take a look at what's happening in Kent ( where Reform have control). It is an absolute shambles because they don't have a plan other than stopping the boats.

But, Farage supporters, why oh why would you vote for someone who will probably dismantle the NHS and make our country more unsafe globally. You get cross when people snipe, but we despair of people who can' t seem to see what is blatantly bloody obvious to the rest of us. You're so naive.

I'm absolutely not. I live in this country and I'm really worried about what is round the corner.... and terrified that many people don't seem to be able to join the dots. It worries me that people spend their energy foaming at the mouth, feeling ' insulted' instead of t picking up a good book or newspaper article and actually working out what the hell.is going on and hoe Reform will ruin the country.

OP posts:

You seem to be foaming at the mouth quite a bit yourself. I do not support Reform at all but I reject your argument that people who do support them are thick, dont read the news etc. There’s more than one conclusion to draw from facts you know.

Well if.you can find a logical explanation, I'd live to hear it, because I have no clue why anyone apart from a millionaire would want to vote for them.

No but I’m voting for someone who intends to fundamentally reset the British state and defend our interests abroad. I was more referring to the nhs - it needs to be broken to start again.

34 year old died in waiting room.

Wait what? You can only get a hip replacement if you are under 65?

I know they’ve stopped treating cysts on the NHS but that seems terrible.

Had a cyst treated (very quickly and efficiently!) on the NHS about a month ago. Must have changed in a month eh.

Can you explain how that is worse than Labour continuing to allow the NHS to be used to further the aims of political activists which will end up costing millions if not billions in the long run and will continue to reduce the number of patients that can actually have their health improved by treatment?

Meanwhile Labour making the country more unsafe by refusing to do anything meaningful about the men entering our country on small boats and which we know include criminals and terrorists among their number?

As to naivety, what are your thoughts on the emerging scandal of the police force following instructions of Islamists under threat of armed violence. WMP are not the only police force operating under Islamic rule and parts of the government are clearly desperate to avoid upsetting them. Look at the pressure clearly exerted in the rape gangs scandal, the first cousin marriage issue etc.

If there was another public health issue that caused potentially thousands of babies per year to be born with severe congenital abnormalities, or die early, don’t you think the government would be keen to take action? Why do you think they are reluctant to even criticise it?

@Daygloboo The same idiots who believed Farage over Brexit? Easily persuaded in terms of solutions because they don't really understand the depth of the problem. It’s too easy to come up with slogans like Broken Britain with no real plan about how to improve anything. Reading the news is easy, actually having workable solutions is another matter. Everything is negative negative negative. Now it’s failed Tories who did nothing whilst in power who are somehow the way forward. It’s farcical.

What I do agree with is that the NHS is a behemoth that no other country has. We need a rethink on its size, scope and costs. A slightly shorter waiting list and an ambulance arriving a bit quicker just means fewer strikes have taken hold, better management of ambulances and services. Probably not much to do with political direction - which we need less of!

the small boats problem has been made exponentially worse by Brexit. As has our economic growth. Remind me whose bright idea that was? And as for “Islamic rule”, give your head a wobble.
