If Trump offered you £1 million to vote for your country to become part of US, would you?

This is hypothetically one of the options available to Greenlanders.

We're Scottish. I say no, DH says take the money and move.

Sorry, for some reason I can't enable voting. I get a No Entry sign

Your DH would sell out Scotland to Donald fucking Trump? LTB 😂

eta nope, no chance!

Edited

I'm seriously considering it. LTB, that is.

The million £/$ is hypothetical, I heard a panellist on a political show throw it out there the other day.

The scary thing is that Trump doesn't have the intelligence or imagination to come up with this stuff (Greenland, Venezuela etc) on his own.

So who's whispering in his ear?

I'd like to say not but depends where I could move to. Because, and this sounds terrible, but 1 mill doesn't go that far .... especially if you have to pay for US style health care.

I say that because I resolutely am not for sale but I fear I'd be forced to by a split vote (lets not mention brexit eh).

LaurieFairyCake · 10/01/2026 12:04

You’re basically asking ‘would I sell my soul to the devil for a million pounds’

As a Christian I’d love to say no, fuck you you bastard. as an individual with no money unfortunately the answer would be a selfish one.

SerendipityJane · 10/01/2026 12:07

No.

Is a complete answer.

thepariscrimefiles · 10/01/2026 12:11

Absolutely not. If I were religious, it would be like me making a pact with the devil. He's pure evil and certifiably insane.

MarvellousMonsters · 10/01/2026 12:13

No

Ifyoutolerate · 10/01/2026 12:17

No, because I don’t support fascism.

Instructions · 10/01/2026 12:18

No. Not for any amount of money. I would absolutely hate to be part of the USA.

OhNoSummer · 10/01/2026 12:19

Yes, I would. Because I would rather have US troops in my country than Chinese or Russian troops.

Can’t believe people would turn down the money!

The money would be nice (hell, the $100,000 would be appreciated, we're partially living off savings that we only have because I was made redundant) - but what's the cost?

I'd refuse it, because I believe the cost would be too high.

Sexentric · 10/01/2026 12:26

It would depend on the terms tbh. If it was the case that only a majority agreement was needed rather than unanimous (likely) and only those who said yes would get the payout, then id say yes. But if it required unanimous agreement, or even just a majority and if it did go through everyone gets paid, I'd say no.

Wouldn't want any of them.
Why do you think American ones invading are any better?

Greenland already has US troops stationed there.

MrsLeonFarrell · 10/01/2026 12:28

I can't think of any amount of money that would persuade me to accept Trump as my country's leader.

It's not always going to Trump though, is it?

Sodthesystem · 10/01/2026 12:37

Realistically that would crash the economy surely?

I would have said yes... before I visited the USA.
Now, absolutely not.

I don't have the words to explain how new york made me feel. It's a horrible, money obsessed hellscape filled with crazy people and there's a weird undercurrent...like something awful was going to happen. Music plays all over the gaf about how great nyc is and feels like propaganda. The people believe it.

Now tbf that's just one city. But it's a city on the left and it still felt oppressive. That poison must not be allowed to spread.

MandingoAteMyBaby · 10/01/2026 12:38

I would not want to live in a country where kids get shot at school and where random untrained fake “law enforcers” execute people summarily in the street.

Ygfrhj · 10/01/2026 12:40

Yes. Presumably I could move to Denmark with my $1m and enjoy life. Better than saying no and being invaded later.

In reality.... I wouldn't trust him to honour the agreement.

MidnightMeltdown · 10/01/2026 12:43

Would every other citizen get the same deal? If so there would be massive inflation!

bengalcat · 10/01/2026 12:45

No

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 10/01/2026 12:47

10 million yes

It would always be the us though. Fuck that.

Greenland has been happy enough to benefit from US military protection for decades. I don't see what would be massively different for them.
