Okay but we have 20 million illegal immigrants in America. Is your solution to … just let them all stay? Because you have ‘brown’ family members? If they are on a proper visa, there’s nothing to worry about.

They are US citizens. Which apparently means nothing now.

OonaStubbs · 09/01/2026 06:49

All the illegal immigrants are US citizens?

BlearyEyes2 · 09/01/2026 06:51

OonaStubbs · 09/01/2026 06:49

All the illegal immigrants are US citizens?

I was wondering about that. There seems to be a lot of ignorance around this, which is only going to lead to more attempted obstruction of ICE and possibly more violent incidents.

RingoJuice · 09/01/2026 06:53

CharlotteRumpling · 09/01/2026 06:47

They are US citizens. Which apparently means nothing now.

Well then they aren’t part of the 20 million or so illegal immigrant population so you are worrying for nothing.

But I guess you make it all about your feelings and not what’s actually happening.

Yes, that must be it. Anyone who protests ICE brutality must be making it about them.

Quote:" Okay but we have 20 million illegal immigrants in America."

Not according to the data. No idea where you get the 20 million from

The latest data I can find estimates 11,3 million.

Unauthorized Immigration and US Border Crossing Data by Year - North American Community Hub (nchstats.com)

And there is this. From Trumps own admin.

Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem, More than 2.5 Million Illegal Aliens Left the U.S. | Homeland Security (dhs.gov)

I don't know if the top data link includes the bottom one, but if not:

11.3 million -2.5 million does not equal 20 million

Then again, we are in the Trumpian post truth era. So maybe it does under the new rules of arithmetic,

If there are 20 million illegals in the USA, does that not indicate that Trump is totally failing on yet another of his promises?

In any case, it was a US citizen that was shot dead. She did not need a visa. Not that undocumented migrants should be shot dead, of course.

Edit spelling.

Edited

That’s the number they were giving prior to the Biden wave. The truth is nobody knows how many. And successive governments have failed us, Trump himself failed to deport illegal immigrants in the interior during his first term (he did shut down the border so at least did not add to the problem).

Leftists as usual don’t want to solve problems. They want to do nothing.

CharlotteRumpling · 09/01/2026 07:01

I applaud the use of ' expat' though. Well played.
An American in the UK is an expat, with all the positive connotations that brings.
A Latino born in the US is an illegal immigrant, as ICE actions have shown.
And as my relatives are experiencing.

RingoJuice · 09/01/2026 07:04

CharlotteRumpling · 09/01/2026 06:55

Yes, that must be it. Anyone who protests ICE brutality must be making it about them.

So why mention your relatives, who aren’t even illegal, by your own admission? Omg it could happen to SOMEONE I KNOW (it couldn’t and it won’t)

Expats don’t intend to stay (as you well know). Immigrants intend to stay.

I doubt your relatives have been affected by ICE, since you say they are legal.

They have been told to go back to Mexico numerous times. (They are not Mexican btw). Plenty of hate speech, threats and fear for anyone who is not white or looks " illegal". And being a citizen is not protection, since many citizens have been detained by ICE, which you keep denying, despite reams of evidence.

This is what Trump's hate campaign has unleashed. And we will soon have that here with Farage. Which you will no doubt be thrilled about.

Here are US citizens being detained and brutalised by ICE. https://www.propublica.org/article/immigration-dhs-american-citizens-arrested-detained-against-will
There have been many such incidents.

You are being disingenous.

130 detained and 110 released within a day? It’s hardly a major issue considering what problems the US are trying to solve.

ClafoutisSurprise · 09/01/2026 07:13

I am still puzzled tho as to why some posters are so invested in a country that is not their own, in many cases have never stepped foot in.

You can’t have puzzled very long. Maybe it’s because a major world power that has been an ally of Europe and broadly shared our values has turned into something frighteningly unrecognisable and unpredictable? This during a time when we’re already under threat from Russia. China and Russia have been threats for a long time and now we have to add the US into the mix too.

Maybe because US-based media has a huge reach, meaning that the same pro-authoritarian political views (perfectly illustrated by those who accept or even celebrate that death is a reasonable consequence for not obeying authorities) are getting embedded here in a way that feels extremely threatening to many of us. The rise of nationalist Christianity is now apparently a thing here. It’s a US import, actively cultivated from the US.

If you find it weird that what is going on in the US is big news outside the US, I’d question how deeply you’re thinking about this.

Yes who cares about being kicked, dragged and detained. We should have that here.
Just detain people wandering about looking ' illegal'.

Where is your 20 million data from ?

If you click that nchstats link I posted above, you will get this-

"The unauthorized population grew to 11.3M in 2024, reversing its decline from a 2007 peak of 12.2M."

I don't see 20 million anywhere. Don't you have a Breitbart link or something ?

And if you or Trump don't know, how can you measure the success or failure of the policy ? Is Trump just making numbers up ?

We already know maths is not Trumps strongpoint, what with his 100%, 200%, 1000% claims. I would have thought his supporters would at least be doing their duty to publish stats that back up his claims. You know, make it up but at least try to make it look authentic.

Even China manages to do that.

Has he not learned anything from "Sharpiegate" ?

Surely he could do some "Effective Dictatorship" classes at Trump University.

Thanks for linking. This part was truly interesting:

Immigration agents also can arrest citizenswho allegedly interfered with or assaulted officers. We compiled cases of about 130 Americans, including a dozen elected officials, accused of assaulting or impeding officers

Guess they were within their rights to stop and arrest Good.

Moving on.

Agents can hold people whom they reasonably suspect are in the country illegally. We found more than 50 Americans who were held after agents questioned their citizenship. They were almost all Latino

Okay, so 50 out of how many? IIRC 250,000 to 300,000 were deported by ICE in 2025. That’s a really good rate tbh.

Then they detail particular cases.

Leonardo Garcia Venegas was working on a job site with his illegal brother (later deported) and was nabbed by ICE. Showed his Real ID (not proof btw this has been given to illegals before). Could probably have explained further except … he couldn’t actually speak English. He has no idea what the agents are asking him.

I think it’s pretty suspect to have an illegal alien brother and fail to understand English. I can totally understand why he was held for a couple of hours.

Many thanks for linking this article.

All this too, of course. I walked past an anti-abortion rally in Westminster some months ago. Way more people than I expected. Way more women!
I don't want any Christian evangelism, anymore than I want sharia law.

ElectoralControversy · 09/01/2026 07:25

@RingoJuice There are a lot of reasons why UK people are invested in the USA: we holiday there, have family and friends there, I myself had a job offer there a few years ago; so we care about the personal freedom and safety of us citizens.

The office of US president has great global cultural and historic significance, so it's incredible to see it go to someone with so little dignity or respect for the office. You must have noticed that the way he talks is less like a US president and more like playground bully?

You also must have noticed that Trump has absolutely no regard to truth, due process, or the American constitution? You can probably justify this to yourself now by saying it's necessary to carry out his agenda, but if the next guy is a democrat with the same attitude - fight fire with fire, right? - surely you can see you've set a dangerous precedent?

Finally, he's showing a dangerous interest in invading other countries because he fancies the territory or they've annoyed him. It's definitely the whole worlds problem if the guy with the nuclear codes has a massive fragile ego and poor emotion control.

From.that same article, a border patrol officer is quoted as saying he supports racial profiling.." How do they look compared to you?"

"They". Any non-white person will be racially profiled. But all A ok, because " the scale of the problem".

Do you not think it a problem that an American citizen could not even speak English? His own brother was an illegal alien, it’s so obvious why this guy was detained (for just a few hours).

It’s because it’s quite clear the rest of the West is going to have its own version of ICE with in the next few years,

Leaving aside the fact this comment doesn’t really follow on what it quotes, you must be really excited about the prospect.

I wonder just how dehumanising the conditions people might be deported to will be? How many children will be separated from parents? How many people will be deported without due process and even in contravention of judge’s orders? How much brutality these agents will impose in the course of their much-needed duties? How many ‘extreme leftist agitators’ might be roughed up or even killed for protesting?

So much to salivate over!

Quote " It was the ICE officer who killed her for no reason other than she did not agree with them

If she didn’t agree with them, she could have peacefully protested at a federal building. Sent letters to her representatives.

She is not entitled to obstruct ICE from carrying out the very duties that the American public voted for (and by Congress for that matter)

Are you allowed to overturn the democratic process because it hurts your feelings?

Are you allowed to execute someone because they get in your way?
