Made the lasagna without the lasagna

Brainfogtothemax · 05/01/2026 13:26

What to do?

Just prepped for dinner, did all the mince with tomatoes, onion etc and made the cheese sauce, boiled some potatoes and went to get the lasagna sheets and don’t have any.
Not feeling 100% so cba going to the shops, how can I make it into a proper meal? I have some pasta I could use instead, but what about the potatoes? Save them for tomorrow 🤷🏻‍♀️

You'd have thought... but apparently the only possible meal is lasagne with boiled potatoes.

but lasagna with boiled potatoes is a mad meal!

pasta bake with frozen peas and then potato printing for an after dinner craft activity.

MsGreying · 05/01/2026 14:30

Mash the spuds if they won't slice and layer them.
Add more cheese.

Because a pasta dish or pasta bake with potatoes too just seems odd

Ok. And now the made up story is complete.

CorporaINobbyNobbs · 05/01/2026 14:31

Eat the potatoes tomorrow?

Duck à l’Orange?

🤣🤣🤣

But lasagne IS a pasta dish/pasta bake? I'm so confused.

AhBiscuits · 05/01/2026 14:31

People are very uncomfortable with the potatoes. If you order lasagne in a pub or something, it will frequently come with chips or garlic bread. Adding another carb isn't that odd.

So lasagne isn't a pasta dish?

What's lasagne then? Surely that's a pasta dish?

Just have Beans on toast and use everything else tomorrow after you've been to the shop to buy the lasagne sheets.

Yeah but it's odd to think it's perfectly fine to serve potatoes with lasagne but weird to serve them with pasta bake. Pick a lane at least 🤣

WonderfulSmith · 05/01/2026 14:32

Cook some pasta, stir it through the mince, sauce on top, in the oven. Pasta bake. Have it with the potatoes if you want as it’s exactly the same thing but the pasta is a different shape. Or put the potatoes in the fridge and roast them another day.

OP its making me chuckle how you sound so confident about the lasagne with potatoes. It really is bizarre!

Why dont you have bolognese with pasta and put the spuds in the fridge to have with something tomorrow? They will still be tasty😊

Why is it bizarre though?? I’ve had this since childhood

Babes, get a deliveroo.

takealettermsjones · 05/01/2026 14:33

I'm now getting weirdly hung up on the potatoes being too soft to slice... Were your family planning on swallowing them whole?!

Genevieva · 05/01/2026 14:33

You can boil any pasta you have and make a layers pasta bake.

But pub lasagne is a different thing. Lasagne with chips in a pub - fine. Home - no. Don’t ask me why, I don’t make the rules.

Duck à l’Orange?

Sherry Trifle with mash?

It's medium odd. It's magnified into totally bonkers because of your insistence that pasta dish + potatoes is totally fine and normal as long as the pasta is flat and rectangular. As soon as the pasta is in any other shape you declare it unacceptable.

sittingonabeach · 05/01/2026 14:28

Can you make potato salad with the potatoes, not necessarily to be eaten with the pasta dish

In winter?

Lasagne and chips with a side salad is a common meal at family style restaurants so not sure why you're getting so much flack op! It is double carbs but ... so what 😅

The beauty of home cooking (done properly) is that there are no rules.

What-mash and the pasta too? -seems weird

Dude! You were the one that brought potatoes into a lasagne neal in the first place! No one else! Now you're all "Potatoes? With pasta?". That is what you yourself put on the menu.

Or you could put them on a skewer and have Potato Lollys?

This is now my favourite windup thread of all time. I’m a little bit obsessed.
