Feel a bit mean, but so excited for tomorrow

Dh back to work
Dc back to school

I am the type who normally feels sad holidays are over and kids are back and so on, but this holiday hasn’t been great and I cannot wait for 9 am tomorrow.
I intend to stop at the shop for treats and spend until pick up watching Netflix shows…blissfully alone! (aside from the dogs-who are no trouble)

My dh has a varied job, in any one week he's home every night, in another week he could be away for any amount of nights, and one time he was supposed to be in Birmingham all week, ended up in Copenhagen! He's been home every night/ on holiday from work since before Christmas, but this week he's back at work and is away minimum Monday and Tuesday, can't wait. Bed to myself, watch what I want, no snoring. I love him to bits but we both actually like the variety of his work, keeps the mystery alive!

Squirrelchops1 · 04/01/2026 18:39

I'm looking forward to going back to work! I've a really busy January that I just want to get to the end of so every day is nearer to that!

Mydonkeyisred · 04/01/2026 18:39

Only one of mines back tomorrow. The others go back on Tuesday.
Looking forward to a nice cafe lunch Tuesday with the youngest.

VivienneDelacroix · 04/01/2026 18:29

I would be too in your shoes. Sounds blissful.

Sadly for me I can only book off AL during school holidays (I work in education, but not in a school - so no long holidays, but also can't take time off during term time). I'd bloody love some time free at home to myself, but the kids are always at home when I can take time off.

Enjoy it for all of us OP!

I think this is the case for most working parents of school aged children, isn't it?
Most don't have enough AL days to take days to themselves.

FlyHighLikeABird · 04/01/2026 18:40

I'm looking forward to having a lovely shower, putting my make-up on, choosing a nice outfit and going to my office for a few hours! I honestly like routine, I'm not a 'let it all hang out' person, or at least, I can do that only for a few days before I feel restless.

It's what suits you, no need to feel guilty about having peace and quiet whatsoever (my office is quiet!)

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 04/01/2026 18:41

I'll be pleased too because people won't have to bring their feral, noisy, and rude children to their vet's appointment.

Namechangeagainomgthisisfacinating · 04/01/2026 18:41

Heavy snow but no confirmed school closure yet, i wfh and was looking forward to getting back to our routine. I just wish a decision was made either way, preparing lunches and uniform and early nights ready for school and i just know the message will come 8am when we have had a mad rush to get out the door.

FlyHighLikeABird · 04/01/2026 18:41

I'm also going to take in all the spare chocolate and biscuits to work to remove any last temptation...

I think I prefer 'normal' to holidays sometimes.

teacher training day tom 😢

landlordhell · 04/01/2026 18:43

I feel the opposite because I will be attempting to teach the chn who have had two weeks of no boundaries. Takes a good week to get order at times.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 04/01/2026 18:36

I’m desperately looking forward to Tuesday! I’m working but the holidays have been so shit that it will be better than parenting right now.
sad but true.

Thanks for your honesty.
I am looking forward to returning to 'normal' soon.
The Christmas holidays have enabled the horrible things in my life to resurface and it's been difficult to divert from them.
I apologise if I appear like a killjoy but that's the reality of my life and many others too.
Fwiw, I paint a smile on my face for relevant people.

OP do you not realise that a large majority of people reading this will in fact be going back to work having had very little break at all.

And your point is? It's not OP or anyone elses fault if peeps have had hardly any break over christmas it's called life circumstances.

I'm not working tomorrow so happy to join meanie OP!

My only worry is that snow is predicted - last thing I need after 2 weeks "holiday" is a snow day.

FastFood · 04/01/2026 18:47

I had the most restful break, 10 days in my tracksuits, no make-up, very little decision-making, just read books, watched stuff and walked the dog in the park.
I'm ready to go back to work now, to get dressed, to wear some make-up, and to go back to a routine.

Enjoy OP!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 04/01/2026 18:47

I don’t work Mondays and have my DS who’s nearly 2. However, DD2 (5yo) doesn’t go back until Tuesday and she so needs to go back to the routine of school. Got soft play booked with a friend tomorrow morning so hopefully that will burn some energy for her.

Where exactly does OP state that she doesn't have a job? Could you quote that bit for me?
What with you and the other doomplopper near the top of the thread it's quite enough to have anyone reaching for the gin.

I have to wait until Wednesday for my alone day, but I’m already planning it out!
Enjoy it op, nothing nicer than a day at home by yourself after all the noise and bustle of the Christmas holidays!

Thesofathatwas · 04/01/2026 18:49

Oooh lovely op.
I love days like that, I do need quiet around me and in my head every now and again.
But then I always feel guilty at wasting the day… for 2 seconds.

Enjoy 😃

On behalf of those people, I hereby grant OP permission to enjoy her day anyway, because I'm generous like that.

bananabreadbatshit · 04/01/2026 18:50

We have a confirmed snow day. And likely the nursery will close too 🫠. Only saving grace is we have been told to WFH c/o the snow. ❄️

TheOnlyMrsW · 04/01/2026 18:50
