Feel a bit mean, but so excited for tomorrow

Dh back to work
Dc back to school

I am the type who normally feels sad holidays are over and kids are back and so on, but this holiday hasn’t been great and I cannot wait for 9 am tomorrow.
I intend to stop at the shop for treats and spend until pick up watching Netflix shows…blissfully alone! (aside from the dogs-who are no trouble)

YANBU! I don’t have work tomorrow so have booked myself a solo cinema trip at 10am - can’t wait

dnadiscoveryquery · 04/01/2026 19:20

I’m excited too! Only there’s now every chance the school will be closed because of the snow (college has already called it that they’ll stay closed) Noooooo! Lol

BrendaSmall · 04/01/2026 19:20

I was one of the few who actually preferred my 3 children to be home from school than at school!
I lived for half term.
It was so much easier when they were home, especially with my SN daughter who had so many problems at school, it was heaven to go to 10am in the mornings and not have the school on the phone complaining about my daughter or me having to be called into school yet again!

I'll be WFH for 10hrs, but oh my word the kids will be in schoooooool! Get in! Hubby will still be here, but he will feed and water me.

I am will jel you'll get to watch Netflix all day, though. Still! Enjoy that peace!

JontyGentoo · 04/01/2026 19:21

I’m so jealous! This was me until I got an email a few hours ago saying school is closed due to the snow 😆. Hopefully they’re back in school on Friday for my next day off.

Enjoy your day off 😀

Whoneedsanamesuggestion · 04/01/2026 19:21

Back to work tomorrow, but also looking forward to a bit of peace tbh. I work in a school but it isn't the same as being at home with bored kids and dh getting grumpy

God I’m devastated

reception child and nursery baby here - we’ve had the most wonderful 2 weeks together - out every day for big walks and been to all the farms and out for lovely picnics and hot chocolates every day (lucky me he weather been so beautiful - freezing! But we are wrapped up warm

lazy evenings watching films!

my husband said he feels like he proper got to know our 18 month old as he is in work so much and spends such little time with him in the evenings after work!

let the kids stay up a little later than usual and we’ve ended up all sleeping in until 8am everyday - no idea how we will all get up at 7 tomorrow and out the door at 8 🤣🤣

it’s honestly been amazing (husband and I took loads of turns to go off and have days too ourselves as well - proper good balance of family and solo time I felt

This made me laugh - not in a mean way, just in recognising the days where 8am was a lie in. My daughter is 10 and I've just posted we had some lovely lie-ins and I meant until 10am and 11am! I've just realised that's the first time she's been sleeping that late and that she's truly into tween territory now.

It sounds like you've had a fantastic, balanced break.

BlackCatDiscoClub · 04/01/2026 19:23

Enjoy OP! Watch some trashy TV for me! Working from home and DC at home too for me, but I am going to treat myself by spending the morning working from bed with DC reading in bed next to me. I'm not ready for relaxed holiday time to finish!

SqishySqashmas · 04/01/2026 18:06

OP do you not realise that a large majority of people reading this will in fact be going back to work having had very little break at all.

Waaaaaaahhhhh !!!

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 04/01/2026 19:24

I'm excited! We home educate so this is when all the school kids go back and we get all our favourite places to ourselves again 🥰 I also love the start of September for the same reason!

TheEllisGreyMethod · 04/01/2026 19:25

School already been closed for tomorrow for snow 😭

Dinosaurdrip · 04/01/2026 19:28

I was feeling very excited for everyone going back to nursery/school/college and me having the house to myself (Wfh and have only had 4 Xmas days off) however just been informed that all will be at home again as school and college and nursery are closed because of the snow!!!
We shall try again on Tuesday!! Confused

Where is that?

Strangesally20 · 04/01/2026 19:31

I don’t get time off over the Christmas/new year period (healthcare) but I am part time so I am at home a lot during the holidays. I always book this week off work every year. There is something so lovely about being off work while everyone else goes back and having a bit of time to recover from the hectic festive season.

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 04/01/2026 19:34

Ah enjoy your day off op.

I'm a bit jealous.

HerVagestyTheQueef · 04/01/2026 19:35

Envious, OP… ordinarily I’d be exactly the same, but unfortunately DH took early retirement a couple of months ago.
Now he’s always around, like Banquo’s fucking ghost. I mean, he’s a nice man and a good husband but I never get time alone any more!

Wishing14 · 04/01/2026 19:36

Sounds wonderful! I’ve not had a day off (bar Christmas) in over a month and not got another one off til mid Feb (including weekends)… but guess what who cares, and enjoy your time. I couldn’t imagine anything nicer! I’d be making tea in a proper tea pot so it lasts longer and snuggling up.

Do you realise we're all separate entities with a range of experiences in life? Don't be a sad sack.

Morewoodonthefire · 04/01/2026 18:53

😂I do?!

Not every job is 9-5, Mon-Fri

If you're putting your feet up you probably don't work full time

Tacocat2 · 04/01/2026 19:39

Me too, have had a fairly stressful holiday as well. Have had so little time to myself have decided to book a half day on Friday afternoon so I can get my hair done and potter round the shops by myself. Enjoy yourself tomorrow!

Tell me you are a SAHM without telling me you are a SAHM 😂

iamnotalemon · 04/01/2026 19:41

I don’t have a husband or kids but I expect I’d feel the same 😂
