Feel a bit mean, but so excited for tomorrow

Dh back to work
Dc back to school

I am the type who normally feels sad holidays are over and kids are back and so on, but this holiday hasn’t been great and I cannot wait for 9 am tomorrow.
I intend to stop at the shop for treats and spend until pick up watching Netflix shows…blissfully alone! (aside from the dogs-who are no trouble)

OP do you not realise that a large majority of people reading this will in fact be going back to work having had very little break at all.

Grow up 🙄 people have different lives. If I’m not at work then I’m looking after DD. Still can appreciate OP’s excitement!

Icecreamhelps · 04/01/2026 18:23

OP I'm excited for you, I remember that feeling.

FutureMandosWife · 04/01/2026 18:23

I can't wait for child to go back to school tomorrow, I have a run to the rubbish dump to do. I love him to bits but he is bored and wants to go back

and what about the poor, starving children in Africa too. Come on, OP, read the room and show the appropriate level of misery in sympathy

Jackiepumpkinhead · 04/01/2026 18:24

Enjoy your day, OP! First day back in the office for me tomorrow, and I’m quite looking forward to it.

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 04/01/2026 18:24

Mine have a training day tomorrow. Bring on Tuesday. Dh at work, kids at school and I’m working from home but only for the morning. Can’t wait for a peaceful afternoon!

HollyhockDays · 04/01/2026 18:25

I’m back at work tomorrow but wfh and can’t wait for a bit of peace!!

holachicatita · 04/01/2026 18:25

OP I'm in Ireland and just got emails/texts from kids schools to say they are closed tomorrow due to the snow!!! Hope this doesn't happen you lol.. 😜

BePoisedPlumUser · 04/01/2026 18:26

I go back to work on Tuesday after 3 months off. I can’t wait to see people other than my immediate family again.

H202too · 04/01/2026 18:26

Just amazed you have no Christmas snacks left. But I think I over buy.

What's that got to do with anything?

Coconutter24 · 04/01/2026 18:27

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 04/01/2026 18:13

Exactly.
I worked all last week apart from NY day.

How do you know OP hasn’t done the same? She may of worked over Christmas or she may of had 2 weeks off either way she can still be excited for a day at home alone

BitOutOfPractice · 04/01/2026 18:28

Enjoy op.

I'm looking forward to getting back to routine (I love my job!) and to eating normally again. I feel like I’m 50% cheese and 50% Sauvignon Blanc!

VivienneDelacroix · 04/01/2026 18:29

I would be too in your shoes. Sounds blissful.

Sadly for me I can only book off AL during school holidays (I work in education, but not in a school - so no long holidays, but also can't take time off during term time). I'd bloody love some time free at home to myself, but the kids are always at home when I can take time off.

Enjoy it for all of us OP!

IAmTheLogLady · 04/01/2026 18:31

In jealous, my dts have tomorrow off. I am wfh.

We do have Christmas biscuits and chocolates though <<preens>>

peacefulpeach · 04/01/2026 18:32

What will you watch? Friends has gone - very sad.

JLou08 · 04/01/2026 18:33

I can't believe the amount of votes for YABU! I've actually really enjoyed the holidays this time and don't want them to end but I've definitely had times when I can't wait for it to be over.

caringcarer · 04/01/2026 18:35

I expect you did majority of cooking and work over Xmas and NY. If so you deserve a day to yourself. Bag some bargains, have a nice breakfast or lunch out then home in the warm to watch Netflix's x. You can throw something in the slow cooker for their dinner.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 04/01/2026 18:36

I’m desperately looking forward to Tuesday! I’m working but the holidays have been so shit that it will be better than parenting right now.
sad but true.

CatchTheWind1920 · 04/01/2026 18:37

Enjoy! We are in the UK visiting my family and decided to stay for 3 weeks but the last few days have been getting difficult... I sort of regret not flying home at our usual time (2nd/3rd January)🙈 youngest DC would've been back at nursery tomorrow, eldest on Wednesday but instead we're here until Saturday 😆lesson learned... 2 weeks at Christmas is enough! Just do longer in the summer holidays 😅
Next Monday I will be doing the same...snacks, coffee and my book/netflix!

OP, I had a couple of nights when I was the only one at home. LOVED IT (apart from having to get up to turn the prank Alexa reminder off that DS1 had set!).
I love my family, I enjoy Christmas, I've had a great time and I've loved the lie ins.
Do I love a bit of space where no one will ask anything of me, and where I can not think about meals etc? Of course I bloody well do.
