Disclaimer: Not 100% serious at all 😏

Mine would be to ban repeat offenders who don't return to the threads they start.

A mahooosive multicoloured sticky banner reminding OPs to include their kid's ages in the opening post, as it's nearly always relevant.

What would you add/remove/change?

We'd be able to delete our own posts without going through MNHQ.

Yes please

I'd like it to say at the top how long the poster has been on mumsnet. Name changing is fine, but if someone is using a new name, it would be good to know "member since 2009". (Maybe that's too outing ..."member for more than 5 years" ?)
I would also not allow people to start threads until they had engaged on another thread. Or can't start a thread until you've been a member for a certain length of time (even 24 hours).

That would stop people/me getting sucked into threads about the mental load and how awful it is to have a son by people posting in bad faith.

I’ve been here for 24 years. I’ve forgotten my password or had trouble logging back in many times. I must have given up and re registered more times than I can remember.

nope. I like that you have to justify yourself for deleting a cunty post

I would add that when a post is deleted, that poster gets both a PM here from the mods, and an email. So they know. The email/PM to include the text of the post, the reason for deletion and in some circs the ability to edit the post so it can stand in a modified form (with an "edited to conform to MN rules" tag so we know)

Ban men from posting in the sex topic. Grim fuckers.

landslide51 · 01/01/2026 13:05

Ban troll hunting - those smug gits need to bore off.

Bring back the laughing emoji on non sensitive boards.

Stop the ridiculously huge amount of advertising that means the site is always crashing. (This seems to have improved for the minute but you shouldn't have to pay to prevent the site crashing your machine).

Stop threads where people are complaining about neurodiversity when they clearly don't have a clue about it and are basically just being ableist.

Troll hunting is banned, although obviously it can only be policed and deleted after the fact when you report it

The reason mn has so many trolls us because MN want to shoot the messenger rather than the troll.

I forget there are other pages!

Are there other pages? I'm here just for the forums.

DameOfThrones · 01/01/2026 10:37

I'd ban non-parents - what on earth are they doing on mumsnet?

Have you seen how many topics there are that have nothing to do with children though?

Alcohol Support
Bereavement
Arts and Crafts
Weight loss
Christmas
Cost of Living
Eating Disorders
The Dog House
The Tack Room

I won't carry on because the list is endless.

I agree with you @DameOfThrones , I do not have DCs but post on here about loads of others stuff.

Is anyone else hoping that mnhq are reading this thread and taking notes of what to change next time the do a overhaul.

That's fair, I've not been here that long but I did reregister at some point as well.

I suppose I just want a way of avoiding engaging with brand new posters who bounce in with a controversial story that didn't actually happen.

JaquelineHide · 01/01/2026 13:51

People who come onto a thread about a celebrity or TV show to say they've never heard of them/it - 2 weeks suspension.

MyDogHumpsThings · 01/01/2026 14:10

I’d make it so the fucking pages load and reload quickly. It performs so badly, and other sites that rely on ads don’t have this problem. I sometimes refrain from commenting on threads to avoid a reload, and sometimes i just get bored of waiting for the page to load and just leave.

GrandHighPoohbah · 01/01/2026 14:13

zaxxon · 01/01/2026 11:45

But that's the internet, that's how it works. MN is a public forum; once you type something and press post, you've published it and it's available to the whole world, if they care to seek it out.

Journalists report on what's going on in the world, so if a Mumsnet user creates a public post that's essentially saying, "hey, world, check out what's happening to me!", then it qualifies as something that can be reported on. It's true that some outlets don't act responsibly when reporting on threads, which is bad – but also, users should be more aware of what it means to publish a post.

Still disagree with the practice of doing this though. It's one thing to seek it out, but quite another to have it served up in your FB feed. Hence, if I were in charge, I would put a stop to it.

That’s just the internet though isn’t it.

I reckon half of what’s on most forums is made up or heavily exaggerated. I see it as entertainment, not real life.

No, because I suspect they'll ignore our suggestions and change something utterly random that nobody has even mentioned!

Like the recent bloody awful pastel colours that was apparently done by "popular demand", in spite of the fact nobody had seen a single post calling for it. Then they quietly backed down and reinstated the green and purple options that the majority of us had always used.

Thehandinthecookiejar · 01/01/2026 15:32

Wheelz46 · 31/12/2025 23:49

Not allowing people to respond to a post and only quote the poster without including the actual post they are responding to.

Oh god yes, this drives me mad. How am I supposed to know what you’re talking about if I can’t see the comment you’re replying to?

chisping · 01/01/2026 15:41

SixtySomething · 31/12/2025 23:54

I know few will agree with me but I would include an age group of posters. I think it's relevant and that's why my Username gives my age. It would give some context to people's posts. If an 18 year old gives advice on wills or mortgages, it might not be the best advice. If a 75 year old gives advice on latest trends in babycare, they just might be a bit out of touch. Of course, there will always be exceptions, but this is something I would really like.
That's despite the fact thatI often receive patronising replies to my posts, from people who think I'm likely gaga. It makes me smile. 😀

That used to be a thing when twas all fields. You could hover over the user name and see how long they had been on MN and their age though it was optional.

If you had ever visited gransnet you'd know why us old relics stay here. There are about three posters who rule the roost and nobody ever replies to you if you're unknown. I'm 67 and gransnet makes me feel like a naughty child.

Just wanted to lodge a ‘please don’t bring back the laughing emoji’ request, it’s horrible to look at your notifications and see ‘such and such laughed at your comment on ‘how I feel about my dad being dead’ or the like. I had a number of laughing ones, particularly when I commented on a post defending a man who asked if people minded him being on mn, which is when I got loads of horrible dms from women and men! That is also when I had to name change after ten years on mn (hence I’d request for name changing not to be taken away!

I’d also say I’ve rarely seen hth used in a nice way and say people who use read the room when someone is asking about money should be reminded that mn is for everyone (not well off but I find it sad that people who are are chased out if they’ve money worries!)

Give it up already! Anytime anyone posts they'd like it back, up you pop.
Do you advance search the keyword or something?!
