I know it's unpopular but I LOVE the feeling of January. Everything just feels clean and big again. The year spreading ahead. Anyone else love it like me?

You seem surprised that the posters on a thread entitled Anyone else love January?, all like January.

My post isn’t about liking it or not. It’s asking why people say there’s no pressure to do anything. I don’t see it’s any different from any other month in that particular regard (yes, I get that Christmas is busy but what about all the other months?).

KimberleyClark · 01/01/2026 12:48

Yes I do like January. I like the feeling of everything getting back to normal after the mania of Christmas.

RideTheGoat · 01/01/2026 12:48

I don't mind January at all, as another pp said, it's as far away from next Christmas as possible!! I've always found February a rubbish month.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 01/01/2026 12:51

No. It’s a very tight month financially for me and a lot of people.
December monthly pay was gone by Christmas.
I’m in a better position to catch up this year, so should be good by the end of January.
I live in a mixed area of working class people and people who don’t have jobs, there is a lot of stress in January.
Might gain some positivity from this thread.

I've always loved January & February. Someone on here once described this time of year as 'the lovely, deep dark mid Winter' and that's how I feel.

I love the peaceful freshness that follows taking down the Christmas decorations. I burn my St Eval Winter Thyme candles. I always start a new jigsaw and choose a suitably atmospheric novel (this year it's The Winter Pilgrims by Toby Clements). I love Winter clothes and enjoy wearing my impressive collection of sweaters, several of which are vintage Laura Ashley.

I try to really appreciate living in the moment and not wishing it all away by dreaming of Spring.

Completely agree. I love Winter too. Spring is great when it comes but I do feel a bit sad when Autumn and Winter are finished

Notadramallama · 01/01/2026 13:14

I always think that people who like January, and February, are those that don't have to spend much time outdoors. Yes, the days are getting longer but the weather is cold and miserable. Snow and ice make my life so much harder.

I have horses and hate this time of year.

laxydash · 01/01/2026 13:22

I do like this time of year. Its a period of about 3 or 4 months from now where there is nothing major to be organised or shopped for so no birthdays for example and I can kind of focus on my own plans. I love the autumn and the run up to Christmas but there is so much to do I feel like I kind of miss it so this time of year gives me an opportunity to just be. I love the winter (which has only really just begun where I am) and the spring but I'm not a summer lover as its too light and hot for my comfort. So this is optimal cosy time for me, also I've already had that horrid flu that is going about so hopefully I'll be mostly well from now on out! I also do like getting out and about in this kind of weather, I enjoy the cold crispy days, the snow and stormy weather if we get it.

I do too. It feels like a clean slate. But as I’ve reached my forties and with every year that passes, January makes me a little wary of what’s to come and who’s going to still be here come this time next year.

I do get this too, I don't think I've got through a year since 2018 without there being at least one funeral.

Liftedmeup · 01/01/2026 13:33

Love January. Tree and decorations are still up so it’s lovely and twinkly and green. Tree will come down 6th Jan but we keep some decorations and lights up till Candlemas. I really don’t understand people who take their tree and decorations down early. At least half of Christmas time is in January! This is the best bit.

MeouwKing · 01/01/2026 13:39

I like tennis, so I am looking forward to the Aussie Open and winter sports like ski jumping and slalom.

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 01/01/2026 13:50

I don't enjoy trying to make my money last throughout all 347 days of January!

But I do like the fact the ground is frozen on the dog walk and not slippery boggy mud.

I also have two granddaughters' birthdays in January but I'm actually prepared for once and already have their gifts.

Lottapianos · 01/01/2026 14:04

'I have horses and hate this time of year'

Totally fair enough. I love the cold, but I mean I enjoy going for a brisk walk when it suits me! I wouldn't fancy having to work outside in it

Snowdropsaremyfavourite · 01/01/2026 14:37

Yes! Christmas is over. I can never afford Christmas. It causes me massive stress buying for adults especially when I ask every year if we can stop now.

Didimum · 01/01/2026 14:38

Nope. I’m in hate mode til March. But I like your view on it, OP!

IrradiatedHaggis · 01/01/2026 14:49

cardibach · 01/01/2026 12:44

But the promotion of loving it and looking forward to it isn’t?
’January’ isn’t what anyone hates. It’s what happens in Jan. Cold, principally, in my case. If we had this weather in August I’d hate that.

I'm serious, there does seem to be weird promotion of hating the month of January. If you haven't seen this, then good for you, but I can't seem to turn on the radio or TV without some nerk telling me to hate a month.

HarmoniousHumbug · 01/01/2026 15:09

Thank you for the thread.

I find the whole Christmas thing a bit of a circus after a devastating family bereavement.

January is much quieter and calmer and I can relax, lick my wounds and tentatively look forward…

BluntAzureDreamer · 01/01/2026 15:12

I bloody LOVE January! Apart from the gym being busy.... 🙃

Christmas is as far away as it's going to be all year, all the festive bullshit is well out the way, no more family/present buying/money spending obligations, and the days start getting longer. What's not to like 💙☺️

Liftedmeup · 01/01/2026 13:33

27th Dec mine came down and that was too late! They went up on 19th Dec and that was far too early! 😂

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 01/01/2026 15:15

Yep, I love it, everything back to normal a chance to reset and the hope of spring. Weirdly though I’m not a fan of February

Thehandinthecookiejar · 01/01/2026 15:24

No. It’s to bloody cold and depressing.

Disturbia81 · 01/01/2026 15:28

I didn’t use to but I do in recent years. I love Christmas but also love it being all over and starting the journey to spring.

KeepScrapingBy · 01/01/2026 15:57

January seems like a short month because the first week is still basically a Christmassy haze.
January doesn’t really get going until the second week and even then there’s enough leftover cheese, chocolate biscuits, crackers, panettone and mulled fruit punch to get me through to the end of the month! Plus you can keep some fairy lights up, there’s no rule that says you have to take them down on 6th January.
Yes it might be cold but you can go shopping in the sales and get a cosy new jumper for half price!

cardibach · 01/01/2026 16:44

Sad that a lot of people like it simply because it’s a long way from Christmas. I love Christmas. It’s no coincidence that the curse on Narnia is to be ‘always winter but never Christmas’.

Porkpieandmustard · 01/01/2026 16:50

Yes I like it, but I like dark and cold so it’s ideal.
