I know it's unpopular but I LOVE the feeling of January. Everything just feels clean and big again. The year spreading ahead. Anyone else love it like me?

Love it. Quiet, peaceful and cosy - my ideal.

SomeInternetUser · 30/12/2025 17:04

Love it!

Justputsomeyoghurtonit · 30/12/2025 17:06

I love January and February. I love the post Xmas diet too!

I have daffodils on the kitchen table, I go out in the garden every weekend. Last January I power washed the patio in stages every afternoon for a week after work - work in a school so home by 4.30. So nice in March when I didn't need to do it again!

I loathe Xmas and the period between Xmas and NYE so January is a big relief.

5128gap · 30/12/2025 17:15

I don't love it as its too cold for me, but I no longer loathe it as I once did. Since hybrid working has removed the misery of the (often unsuccessful) commute in the snow, and I'm in a better position financially so not scrimping my way through it, it's become just another month. As I'm getting on a bit, I made a point of not hating any part of the year and wishing it over these days, as I'm aware its my precious life I'm wishing away, so I'd rather try to enjoy it.

dottydoglover · 30/12/2025 17:31

Yes I love January - love the calm after the storm of Christmas and the simplicity of this winter month without any Christmas distractions

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 30/12/2025 17:38

No I don't like January. Dull, cold month that is too far away from summer! And the 'New-Year-New-Me' twats I find insufferable! 😆 Also aren't keen on February.. well the first half anyway..

From mid February you have Valentine's Day, then it's DH's birthday just before the end, snowdrops start coming up, the daffodils are almost out, you get starling murmurations, the days are getting longer again (sunset is about 5.30 to 6.00pm,) and of course it's starting to get a little bit warmer. Smile

I love January. The hope of a good year to
come, dark evenings and crisp days but none of the Xmas chaos to get through and usually holidays being booked and looked forward too

emmetgirl · 30/12/2025 17:43

Me! But we go away somewhere hot and sunny for a couple of weeks each January which is probably why.

10K · 30/12/2025 17:46

MEEEEE!
Clean, fresh house
Back on track with exercise
2026 is a blank page and I’m planning a great year ahead 🤓

landslide51 · 30/12/2025 17:52

No I hate it. But I've found that booking a long haul holiday for the end of February really helps to get through the horror that is January and February. Next week highs of 3 degrees here urghhhh.

I do too. It feels like a clean slate. But as I’ve reached my forties and with every year that passes, January makes me a little wary of what’s to come and who’s going to still be here come this time next year.

I feel this way too.

whatcanthematterbe81 · 30/12/2025 17:58

Love it. I do over indulge in dec with so many parties etc but I weirdly love going extra hardcore in the gym and clean eating all of Jan to get back to normal

cardibach · 30/12/2025 17:59

No. It’s about 23663357898432 days long and it’s cold. It’s vile and horrible.

cardibach · 30/12/2025 18:01

Miranda65 · 30/12/2025 12:22

I wouldn't say I love it, as I'm not keen on the cold, but it is a vast, vast improvement on December!
Most importantly, the days are slowly starting to lengthen and we see the first signs of that in January, with a bit more light.
Christmas is over - thank God!
It's time to start planning fun things and holidays for the rest of the year.
And it has the first tennis grand slam of the year, so great fun hunkering down in front of the TV to enjoy the sunshine from Down Under!

It’s not an improvement for me. The thing that depresses me in winter is cold, nit darkness. The days drawing out just mean lots of people annoyingly telling me I must feel better because the days are drawing out. No. No I don’t. It’s fucking freezing, it’s been cold for ages and it’s going to carry on being cold for ages. It’s horrible. At least December has Christmas.

I do! I used to absolutely hate it then I realised I was wasting 1/12 of every year I’ve got left wishing it away. Now I make the effort to enjoy the calm, the lack of pressure to do stuff and the little signs that Spring is on the way.

Going back to work after Xmas can still get in the bin though 🤣

What lack of pressure to d9 stuff? I do the same things but it’s unpleasant.

There’s a massive amount of pressure on most of us to do things at Christmas. Haven’t you noticed?

Crushed23 · 30/12/2025 18:23

Absolutely love it, ever since I moved to a city that gets flooded by tourists in December. I feel like I get my city back in January!

goldenhunter · 30/12/2025 19:22

Yes really love it! I love easing back into routine after the holiday period, and it being such a chilled month where you can cosy up at home with minimal expectations. No need to spend much because the house is groaning with Christmas food still. I also don’t go in for dramatic diets in January either and instead enjoy getting back to balanced meals but supplemented with some Christmas bits. For example I might have a bit of Christmas cheese with chicken and veg soup, or some Indian party food bits with our Friday night veg curry! It’s great having “new” things in every area of life - getting dressed in my new socks, the kids have new toys, a new candle in the kitchen etc etc. makes life feel special! Plus there is all the optimism of it being a new year, and I’m relaxed from two weeks off work!!

Going out, socialising, all that sort of thing. Most people are skint or doing dry January or watching their diet so aren’t so keen and that suits me fine.

AmberLynn1536 · 30/12/2025 21:25

I love January for exactly what it is, the depths of winter, I love the seasons and appreciate every one of them for what they offer, though Autumn and winter are my favourites, January is lovely and clam, no pressure to do anything at all and I really appreciate how still and quiet it is, bliss.

StressyMcStressFace · 30/12/2025 12:02

Me! 🙋‍♀️ Mainly the fact that its as far away from Christmas as it can be but also you can notice the days getting gradually longer and spring and summer are on the way 😄☀️

Same here!! Love it!

MeouwKing · 30/12/2025 21:37

I once spent January in Australia. Loved it.

That’s only a couple of weeks.

I enjoy socialising. Any time I don’t fancy it I don’t go.

I don’t get this ‘no pressure to do anything at all’ that I keep seeing. Why is January any different from Amy other month?
