I know it's unpopular but I LOVE the feeling of January. Everything just feels clean and big again. The year spreading ahead. Anyone else love it like me?

As soon as it starts to get lighter I perk up. November and December I want to go to bed at about 5.30pm because it feels like the middle of the night.

Light makes no difference to me. Temperature does. I’m down until April. At best.

SliceofTosst · 30/12/2025 22:32

I love the tidy house after Chrstmas and serenity of doing no socialising!

WillowIvy · 30/12/2025 22:36

I meant to add earlier I also love January because I’m a weirdo who loves new stationery and paper planners 🤣. I always have a new journal, calendar and diary with things to stick in them, mini notelets etc and beautiful pens to write in them with.

isyouready · 30/12/2025 22:39

I'm enjoying the cold weather

CatchTheWind1920 · 30/12/2025 22:54

I love January. I enjoy getting back into routine after Christmas and New Year, I enjoy the slower days, my birthday is in January, I enjoy looking forward to the year ahead, I enjoy the snow (it snows where I am usually quite a lot in January/February). Always have enjoyed it. So many people I know hate it

Sundriessundries · 30/12/2025 23:01

January has some novelty. February might be the worst - all the bad bits and none of the new-ness

WallaceinAnderland · 30/12/2025 23:05

I love it. January is my second favourite month. I love the fact that you get breathing space, very few commitments, just a quiet, calm, clean month that you can savour. All the other months go by in a flash. January is awesome.

Brightermornings · 31/12/2025 09:52

I’m a January fan. Dd has a November birthday I have a December birthday so it’s busy.
I’ve been adjusting to a new job so it’s been full on. Looking forward to snuggling down with my new candles and books.

Lottapianos · 01/01/2026 09:56

Happy January everyone! It's here 😁

IrradiatedHaggis · 01/01/2026 09:59

Me too, I look forward to it. I find the promotion of hating a month absolutely bizarre and childish.

mrlistersgelfbride · 01/01/2026 10:02

I like it.
Tree comes down, clean up and feels like a fresh start.
You can say no to socialising ; hibernation is a good excuse!
Christmas food is gone and Christmas is far away!
Days get slowly lighter. It’s a good time to focus on health, fitness and self improvement.
The world is quieter 😌

AprilinPortugal · 01/01/2026 10:22

I'm loving it so far at the moment because it's like winter should be where I am...frosty sunny morning, not all grey and rainy like it normally is! Bring on some snow! 😄

PersephonePomegranate · 01/01/2026 10:39

My instinct is to hate it, but for the last couple of years, I've tried to reframe it as a clean slate with lots to look forward to.

For me, it's all about the weather - if its cold but dry, I fare better by gettingbput on lovely winter walks, but if it's rainy and windy, ai just want to hibernate. Christmas is such a distraction from mid-winter, replacing cold and darkness with twinkliy lights and fun, I really struggle when that ends and spring feels so far away.

To try and combat this, I've got some plans in for January, I now always have lights of some description and candles in my fire place, I hold back on using or consuming some of the Christmas presents I got to have some nice new things to look forward to throughout Jan and lean into the hygge. I also planted bulbs for the first time and can see green shoots appearing already through the soil.

I don’t get this ‘no pressure to do anything at all’ that I keep seeing. Why is January any different from Amy other month?

You seem surprised that the posters on a thread entitled Anyone else love January?, all like January.

EleanorReally · 01/01/2026 10:55

i have such fear of january weather

YellowPixie · 01/01/2026 10:58

January is great. The christmas excess tat and consumer fest is long gone and life is back to normal without people constantly wanging on about plans and presents and decorations and food and the rest of it.

The shortest day has passed, the hours of daylight are increasing and when the snowdrops start peeking through you know that spring is just round the corner.

Norugratsatall · 01/01/2026 10:59

I don’t love it but, as I get older, I do appreciate the peace and calm after the chaos of Xmas. A chance to reflect, decompress, go for walks and just ‘be’. Also, the return of the light and spring not far away. I think there are things to appreciate about all the months/seasons.

People convince themselves that it's going to be grey, freezing, rainy etc but honestly you need to take each day as it comes, same as the rest of the year. Today in the South East it's dry and chilly and there's some weak winter sun. It's gorgeous

Garroty · 01/01/2026 11:01

I do too! I feel sad that Christmas is over but I love the feeling of a reset, the chance to slow down and have a quiet month after a busy December, crisp winter walks, cosy weekends, looking ahead to the year that follows.

Yes, so true! Sometimes Janaury being over leads you into a false sense of security it's all getting better (weatherwise).

i know but i am scared to drive
and i struggle to breath in the cold air
i look at the snow forecast with fear about getting to and from work

Crunchymum · 01/01/2026 11:36

I have 2 of my 3 children's birthday this month (and they aren't twins!) so over the years I've learnt to see the positives in this month. Still nowhere near my favourite month but I don't find it depressing or particularly difficult. I'm a homebody and love nothing more to be at home, January is very conducive to that.

Decafflatteplease · 01/01/2026 12:06

I'm very much a quiet homebody luckily DH and DC are too. So we love the winter months. Although don't like the heating bill so much 😂. I love the calmness of Jan after Christmas, we leave some fairy lights up until Candlemas. Lots of evenings with soft lights, blankets and a book. Or a hot bath with a g&t and a book. It's a real chance to slow down and rest after a busy December.

But the promotion of loving it and looking forward to it isn’t?
’January’ isn’t what anyone hates. It’s what happens in Jan. Cold, principally, in my case. If we had this weather in August I’d hate that.
