Supermarket carpark rage

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:12

Just popped to my local Waitrose to restock on the Belgian biscuits (half price!). As I drove in I spotted a nice convenient parking space outside the front of the store and pulled in, only vaguely aware of a vehicle approaching from my right. As I pulled in to park, the driver of the car, a 60 something blonde, started gesticulating and waving out of her window. I got out, saw that the car park was half empty so load of spaces for her. As I walked into the shop she shouted that I was a selfish bitch and worse!! In the store I saw her in the aisle and mentioned that I didn’t appreciate being sworn at by a total stranger. She repeated that I was a selfish bitch and threatened to punch me. At that point I realised I was on to a loser and went home. She’d left a note on my windscreen for good measure, again calling me a selfish bitch. I actually think she would have punched me if I hadn’t walked away. 2 questions - am I a selfish bitch? Genuinely didn’t see her and car park was half empty. Should I have reported her to the store manager or are threats of violence a factor of modern life that we all have to accept?

OP posts:

Her car was stationary on the other side of the row. She could have been waiting to turn left or right

Nope. She was waiting to drive in. But we were both there at the same time - I just had the most convenient drive into the space

You are so badly contradicting yourself even here!

New Year resolution for you OP. Stop sneaking in parking spaces under false pretense and then acting as an outraged victim when the other person gives you a piece of their mind. From now on, you'll be the better person and in doubt, just park in another spot. You never know, you might be greeted with a smile and they might even let you go ahead at the check out if you only have a handful of items!

Lurkingandlearning · 29/12/2025 12:52

Clearly not all Waitrose are equal. That unseemly behaviour wouldn’t happen at my local store. 😆

She put a curse on you?
Was she wearing a black pointy hat ?

Anyone suggested she's probably got dementia yet? Total nut job though.
Do normal thinking people believe in curses though? She sounds bat shit which ever way you look at it and not worth a second thought except a mental bird flip for the stupid bitch.

Hard to describe but space was at the end of a row of parked cars which separated our 2 vehicles. Her car was stationary on the other side of the row. She could have been waiting to turn left or right. Absolutely no indication that she was waiting for the space. But she was
bloody fuming.😤

She sounds unhinged. I’ve had situations where I go to drive into a space but another car comes from the other end of it (in the opposite lane, which sounds like the situation here) and gets there first. It’s a mild irritation at most - and not directed at the other driver, just a general annoyance

LongDarkTeatime · 29/12/2025 12:56

Whatever the rights and wrongs of waiting for a parking space, she was wrong to be verbally abusive and to threaten violence.

She sounds more like a menopausal woman who has no more patience for all the fuckery of entitled people who doesn't care about sharing her fury any longer!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 29/12/2025 12:57

Im avoiding Waitrose. You dont get hassle like this in an Aldi car park

Passaggressfedup · 29/12/2025 12:59

That indeed should be the reaction...unless you are a menopausal woman with adhd and an acute sense of principles.

I feel.just the way this woman did when confronted with entitled selfish assholes but I just about manage to hold it!

Nope. She was waiting to drive in. But we were both there at the same time - I just had the most convenient drive into the space. You can’t reserve a parking space by looking at it.

So she was waiting to drive in?

Her reaction was way OTT and she sounds horrendous but your awareness whilst driving sounds concerning.

60 something blonde

her age and hair colour are relevant because….?

Old enough to know better I would assume

very different from what you originally said and makes it clear you did see her, did see she was waiting but decided you could nip in.

poor show

Parsleyforme · 29/12/2025 13:01

I would’ve put the note (or if I had paper and felt tip, a bigger note) on her car instead. Threatening violence over a parking space is an incredible overreaction

Passaggressfedup · 29/12/2025 13:01

It's rarely a problem with awareness. More frequently a matter of entitlement and sadly, some do get a kick at passing others off and then playing victim.

I mean who cares enough to turn into a discussion on a public forum!!

BillieWiper · 29/12/2025 13:02

CarpeVitam · 29/12/2025 12:17

Why is her being a 60-something ‘blonde’ relevant? 🤔

Yeah I was about to ask that. She may as well have just came out with calling her a Karen because that's what she meant?!

IncessantNameChanger · 29/12/2025 13:03

The only time I have seen a note on a car that I thought was fair was someone parked vertically over two disabled bays. Quite a feat as it also went over the cross hatching in-between.

You have to be quite confrontational to put a note on a car and swear out the window. Whether it was in the right or wrong, . someone like that isn't going to apologise. Why risk a punch up over something so minor? I'd ask what I'd done wrong if confronted..did you just shout your a pitch or mention why she thought that?

Not that much of an acute sense of principles if you’re going to scream bitch at someone.

Yeah and if she was brunette she wouldn't be 👀

I know! A lady (40’s brunette) took the last olive roll, right in front of me, last week. I had to have a granary roll instead. I was apoplectic. But I didn’t say anything. Not in our Waitrose.

Pavementworrier · 29/12/2025 13:06

If this story is true report it to the police not Mumsnet

You should've secretly followed her and licked it as soon as you got a chance.

notacooldad · 29/12/2025 13:08

Well thats around the houses story about half price biscuits at waitrose that you need to restock , convenient parking spots, the colour of the woman's hair and her approx age! So much irrelevant detail. 😆 🤣 😂.
I wouldn't have bothered approaching her in the store about not appreciating been sworn at. She knows that but wouldn't care. Just shurg and move on. I wouldn't give oxygen to this drama.

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 13:10

OP you made the mistake of mentioning that she was old. Now you will get piled on and told it’s your fault.

PodMom · 29/12/2025 13:11

Belgian biscuits are half price you say? Is there plenty of stock?

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 13:12

😆
