Supermarket carpark rage

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:12

Just popped to my local Waitrose to restock on the Belgian biscuits (half price!). As I drove in I spotted a nice convenient parking space outside the front of the store and pulled in, only vaguely aware of a vehicle approaching from my right. As I pulled in to park, the driver of the car, a 60 something blonde, started gesticulating and waving out of her window. I got out, saw that the car park was half empty so load of spaces for her. As I walked into the shop she shouted that I was a selfish bitch and worse!! In the store I saw her in the aisle and mentioned that I didn’t appreciate being sworn at by a total stranger. She repeated that I was a selfish bitch and threatened to punch me. At that point I realised I was on to a loser and went home. She’d left a note on my windscreen for good measure, again calling me a selfish bitch. I actually think she would have punched me if I hadn’t walked away. 2 questions - am I a selfish bitch? Genuinely didn’t see her and car park was half empty. Should I have reported her to the store manager or are threats of violence a factor of modern life that we all have to accept?

You can't really have a queuing system in a car park as people go round different ways and round and round again.

Well, that clearly depends on the car park.

dynamiccactus · 29/12/2025 17:00

Some very weird responses on this thread but basically if someone beat me to a space in a full car park I'd probably be a bit miffed if I thought they'd deliberately cut me up to get there.

But in a half empty car park? Funnily enough, I'd just go to a different space!

Purlant · 29/12/2025 17:01

I’m very impressed someone takes a pen and paper with them to be able to write a note. I might keep a stationary set with wax and personalised stamp in my bag for any future grievances.

Americano75 · 29/12/2025 17:05

She sounds deranged and there's literally no need, reason or justification in verbally abusing total strangers like that. Like, zero.

I once had a lovely man scream at me because I had given way to someone and held him up by approx 3 seconds. That made me a 'fucking arsehole' apparently.

Edited

I’ve never in my life had anybody threaten to punch me. Genuinely shaken, despite the levity of the thread. Shocking how situations escalate. Always always better to walk away and swallow it. It’s their problem, their anger. Just leave them to it. My last comment and thanks to everyone for their support. And to anyone who thinks I’m the selfish, entitled one, well you are entitled to your opinions.

You're not any of those things. You didn't deserve any of that.

Why on earth would anyone be waiting for a particular parking space in a half empty car park?

Passaggressfedup · 29/12/2025 17:51

It's been quite entertaining how your posts have evolved to suit the narrative. I could see her, oh wait nobI didn't. Well I did but not until it was too late, but it eas her fault because she wasn't quick enough even though I just snooze in very gently without rushing....yeah....

It's quite amazing to read how many CF they are who seem to genuinely adopt the 'you snooze, you lose' attitude. No consideration, no care. They got the prize, they are the best.

I'm any case, it sounds like it was a win/win situation in the end. You passed her off, she shook you up. Twp people upset when with some courtesy, could have been two people smiling to each other instead.

Pathetic really!

Goodness waitrose has gone down hill. Can I suggest Booths, much more civilised, even on christmas eve🤣

I was once sitting in a bus that was otherwise empty. I had my bags on the seat beside me. A woman got on and demanded that I move my bags so that she could sit on the seat beside me.

Muffinme · 29/12/2025 18:18

Whatever the parking situation she shouldn’t have threatened to punch you and yes I would be reporting it to the store and asking them if they have CCTV footage of her threatening you.

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:31

Hard to describe but space was at the end of a row of parked cars which separated our 2 vehicles. Her car was stationary on the other side of the row. She could have been waiting to turn left or right. Absolutely no indication that she was waiting for the space. But she was
bloody fuming.😤

So you did take her space then!

BuildbyNumbere · 29/12/2025 20:35

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:33

Nope. She was waiting to drive in. But we were both there at the same time - I just had the most convenient drive into the space. You can’t reserve a parking space by looking at it.

So basically you did take her space then!

Owly11 · 29/12/2025 20:38

You said you were aware of the vehicle but parked anyway. So yes, you are selfish. But no, you don't deserve to be called a selfish bitch.

Username348 · 29/12/2025 20:55

I experienced a very abusive man at a petrol station once, so many years ago but he was very aggressive and called me a c*nt and threatened to knock me out. I’d joined a shorter row of cars for the pump, he’d picked a longer row but seemed to want to have ownership of all 4 rows. I just though I don’t actually have to put up with this bully, it’s a petrol station so all on camera, he was the driver of the car, so I reported him to the police. I said I didn’t want to press charges but they went and told him off anyway. Just felt sorry for the person they live with and their kids.

Only if you have scruples about running them over.😀

And this is why I no longer have a driving licence... 🙄

kurotora · 29/12/2025 21:18

I think people are just getting crazier and more threatening. I hear so many examples of it and I have my own too.

I was sworn at and screamed at and then run at/chased into the shop by a man at Lidl car park in October. I was shitting myself! My crime was to park in the space next to him when he wanted to have his door open to eat his lunch (?).

He was still waiting when I got back out and I was terrified I had to go back near him, but I set my jaw and did it. He apologised and explained he has “anger issues”. 😬

This was just a couple of weeks after my friend was followed and attempted blocked in by a man in a road rage incident - she was clear headed enough to drive to the police station, and that was the point he gave up!

mdinbc · 29/12/2025 21:32

I would have loudly asked if she was threatening me (making sure there were witnesses) and called police.

No way did this happen in a Waitrose cp.

There’s a Waitrose in my home town, the customers aren’t posh. It’s just the only supermarket in that town.

Barney16 · 29/12/2025 21:49

Waitrose nearest me is full of lunatics. It's notorious.

CarpeVitam · 29/12/2025 12:17

Why is her being a 60-something ‘blonde’ relevant? 🤔

Neither is the supermarket name or what she was going to buy.

Joeninety · 30/12/2025 17:03

WonderfulSmith · 29/12/2025 12:18

60 something blonde

her age and hair colour are relevant because….?

Obviously it conjures up an image of a certain sort.

This tickled me! As a sixty something grey haired will my behaviour be judged more or less harshly?

Why is it wrong that we get the whole picture?
