Supermarket carpark rage

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:12

Just popped to my local Waitrose to restock on the Belgian biscuits (half price!). As I drove in I spotted a nice convenient parking space outside the front of the store and pulled in, only vaguely aware of a vehicle approaching from my right. As I pulled in to park, the driver of the car, a 60 something blonde, started gesticulating and waving out of her window. I got out, saw that the car park was half empty so load of spaces for her. As I walked into the shop she shouted that I was a selfish bitch and worse!! In the store I saw her in the aisle and mentioned that I didn’t appreciate being sworn at by a total stranger. She repeated that I was a selfish bitch and threatened to punch me. At that point I realised I was on to a loser and went home. She’d left a note on my windscreen for good measure, again calling me a selfish bitch. I actually think she would have punched me if I hadn’t walked away. 2 questions - am I a selfish bitch? Genuinely didn’t see her and car park was half empty. Should I have reported her to the store manager or are threats of violence a factor of modern life that we all have to accept?

Even if she was eying it up or waiting to park in it, you got there first, it's no one's space until you drive into it.
Reminds me of the silly people who think by standing in a parking space you are 'reserving' it for the driver.
Nonsense! She has anger issues and was completely out of order.

OP you made the mistake of mentioning that she was old. Now you will get piled on and told it’s your fault.

Where did the OP say she was old?

Your choice of words would leave me to wonder whether you were actually quite aware that she was there before you and like you favoured the most convenient place but you chose to pretend you were fully innocent...

Let's face it, why would anyone, blond or not, in their 60s or younger, feel the need to be so pissed off if you did nothing wrong.

I'm taking the liberty to make this assumption because I've witnessed it quite a few times in car park, the suddenly appearing person who drive into a space that take that perfectly innocent, I don't what you are on about, when others mention their wrong doing when it was quite obvious they knew they pushed the boundaries of acceptable social behavior but had hoped nothing would be mentioned.

I don’t agree . My DD pulled up recently into a car park and there was a space and a car had just stopped past the spot so my DD stopped thinking he was going to reverse and she waited for a minute and he still just sat there , no lights on , nothing , almost like he was waiting for someone so my DD pulled into the spot (he was parked so far past the spot that she had no problems driving into it)

He realised and then sped off round the car park and found another space … 🤷‍♀️

People literally take the piss these days in how slow they are and how they expect everyone to just wait for them to decide what they are doing like we’ve all got all the time in the world … you snooze you lose !! Simple as that….

very different from what you originally said and makes it clear you did see her, did see she was waiting but decided you could nip in.

poor show

No - I saw her only when I had committed to the space and was half way in. Decided not to play Russian Roulette and reverse out again because why would I? Because a belligerent and aggressive woman is gesticulating at me?

Where did the OP say she was old?

She didn’t, she did say “60 something “. So now half of us can rage that mentioning the age is irrelevant while the other half can rage at the other poster for thinking that 60 is old. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I will take a while to decide which team I’m going to join. 👍

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 13:20

@KissMyArt I know it’s upsetting and you may need to take a seat but 60 something is not young.

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 13:22

@PodMom I did that on purpose 😆, now we will have the predictable responses that 60 equals fetus.

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 13:24

TheatricalLife · 29/12/2025 12:24

It's best just not to engage with people like this. Blank look and walk off. Absolutely no point in trying to start a row in the shop by confronting her. You really think you were getting an apology/reasonable response from someone shouting and swearing over a space in a car park?

You are absolutely bang on the money with that observation.

If she was waiting for the space or lining up to pull into it yes if not no.
Your biggest mistake was confronting her in the shop that was asking for trouble

This.

notacooldad · 29/12/2025 13:08

Well thats around the houses story about half price biscuits at waitrose that you need to restock , convenient parking spots, the colour of the woman's hair and her approx age! So much irrelevant detail. 😆 🤣 😂.
I wouldn't have bothered approaching her in the store about not appreciating been sworn at. She knows that but wouldn't care. Just shurg and move on. I wouldn't give oxygen to this drama.

Clearly someone is bored and playing wind up and watch MN go, it ticks so many boxes and has all the unneeded details to make lt appear real.

It's just as well you didn't hit a child if you failed to see a bloody great car!

😆

I think we can safely say 40+ is ‘middle-aged’, if the average age of death is around 80yrs.

At what point does one become ‘old’? It’s all relative I suppose!

Elderly? 60+ surely?

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 13:28

@peacefulpeach on MNs it’s 110 for some reason.

Thank god it didn’t happen in a Morrisons cp. There’d be no OP left to tell the tale.

I'd have pulverised the culprit into atoms in Lidl car park and I don't even drive 😁

mumwheresmyribena · 29/12/2025 13:33

gogomomo2 · 29/12/2025 12:24

Depends if she was already heading into it, perhaps had waited for someone to come out and you grabbed it. I would be pretty annoyed at that

But would you shout and bawl in a car park with plenty of other spaces, would you shout at someone in a supermarket aisle, would you leave a note on the windscreen? Personally, I'd probably call the person a selfish tosser under my breath, find another spot to park and go about my day.

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 13:33

Intrigued20 · 29/12/2025 12:41

I think she was waiting to park, you just sauntered in.
This would have pissed her off.

It certainly did piss her off. She tore a Xmas card in half (nice card with a Robin) and wrote on the back “Enjoy being a selfish bitch” and tucked it under my front wiper. I actually feel lucky that she didn’t key my car. Best posts on here are
the ones that say never engage with the crazy angry person. Never going to go in your favour.

Divebar2021 · 29/12/2025 13:34

Hmmm I was in a car park ( John Lewis) with a one way system primarily because the lanes weren’t wide enough to accommodate two lanes. The woman in the car in front went completely off piste causing mayhem against the one way and general flow of traffic to get to a space . Sadly for her it had big pillars on the corners and she completely scraped her car turning right. Bless her. This was pre Christmas though and spaces were hens teeth so I can’t really understand the angst here if your car park was half empty. I suspect somewhere you were being a CF and she was the wrong person to fuck with. FAFO.

ThePieceHall · 29/12/2025 13:34

Most importantly, did you manage to secure your half-price biscuits?

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/12/2025 13:35

I can’t get over your taking the car to buy cheap biscuits, sorry. What’s the relevance of her hair colour?

WonderingWanda · 29/12/2025 13:36

You've just reminded me of some crazy rage I saw in an out of town M&S car park the day before Christmas Eve. It was heaving. I was in my parking space ready to drive out of it, indicator on. A Woman looking for a space but who had missed me stopped in front of me so I couldn't get out, she was watching someone approach their car hoping to nab their space. I was mildly irritated because I had my engine on ready to go and if she'd just moved a couple of foot she could have my space. I tried waving but she was oblivious and I didn't want to beep in case she felt I was being angry. Anyway, the other shopper faffed for ages and eventually left. Ignorant woman made a massive fuss about getting in a position to reverse into said space but in the meantime angry man raged around the corner and nabbed her space. I sort of felt a bit pleased because she had kept me waiting ages at this point. She was then also angry and waving and shouting at angry man and gesticulating at me how outraged she was.

I did not see this criticism coming, OP you had better watch for Greta too now.

OP didn’t say she was Only buying half price biscuits. She was probably stocking up on other luxuries, and house hold essentials too. The bus or walking would’ve taken too long, the half price biscuits would’ve sold out. OP would’ve been bereft.

No. It didn’t happen like that. I didn’t nip in. I drove in to an empty space. The other driver was lurking round the corner out of my eyeline. It was only when I pulled in that they shot forward. What would you have done? She was shouting and calling me a bitch.

What’s the relevance of her shopping? Pot, kettle, black.
