Supermarket carpark rage

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:12

Just popped to my local Waitrose to restock on the Belgian biscuits (half price!). As I drove in I spotted a nice convenient parking space outside the front of the store and pulled in, only vaguely aware of a vehicle approaching from my right. As I pulled in to park, the driver of the car, a 60 something blonde, started gesticulating and waving out of her window. I got out, saw that the car park was half empty so load of spaces for her. As I walked into the shop she shouted that I was a selfish bitch and worse!! In the store I saw her in the aisle and mentioned that I didn’t appreciate being sworn at by a total stranger. She repeated that I was a selfish bitch and threatened to punch me. At that point I realised I was on to a loser and went home. She’d left a note on my windscreen for good measure, again calling me a selfish bitch. I actually think she would have punched me if I hadn’t walked away. 2 questions - am I a selfish bitch? Genuinely didn’t see her and car park was half empty. Should I have reported her to the store manager or are threats of violence a factor of modern life that we all have to accept?

I think this is what happened
thenother woman was doing it right, about to reverse in and you nipped in and drove into the space. It’s infuriating when someone does that.

Nope. She was waiting to drive in. But we were both there at the same time - I just had the most convenient drive into the space. You can’t reserve a parking space by looking at it.

I’ve had similar experiences where I’ve just missed a space because another driver has been better positioned
As suspected, you took the space she was waiting for. Bloody rude! And now you're on MN to get some sympathy. Definitely not from me. I have no time for people like you.

MirrorMirror1247 · 29/12/2025 12:15

You were there first and she's deranged.

Many thanks. Honestly really appreciate that. She put a curse on my and told me that I was going to have a terrible 2026. I only went in for some biscuits.

‘You can’t reserve a parking space by looking at it.’

😂😂 This is very true!

On a sort of related parking note - Can a person reserve a parking space by getting their mate / relative to stand in it until said person arrives with car?

You said you were only vaguely aware there was a vehicle approaching from your right.

So how could you know this?

Passaggressfedup · 29/12/2025 12:38

you just saunter in totally oblivious to what’s going on around you
Or maybe not so obliviously but entitled people don't care.

Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2025 12:39

She put a curse on you?
Was she wearing a black pointy hat ?

truffleruffle · 29/12/2025 12:39

I once had confrontation in a McDonald’s car park when a young guy and his partner were driving at speed revving engine with music blaring. I pulled my grandson closer for fear he was going to be knocked down and glared at him asking what are you doing there’s children in the car park that’s so dangerous.
He had window down and shouted “yes so what I have a kid in the car too, what are you going to do about it” he did in fact have a toddler in the back seat of the car.
I thought he was going to get out and hit me so quickly walked away.
I’ll never comment again. He was so aggressive, I feel sorry for the child if he’s going to part of his life.
Sometimes it’s safer to walk away. There are some crazy people around.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 29/12/2025 12:40

She was totally out of order obviously. But you don’t have to ‘accept threats of violence’, you decided to confront her in the isle once she’d moved on, and then she threatened violence. You made a choice to join in rather than ignore. If you want to avoid confrontation then you need to avoid confrontation. It’s not worth it with people like that.

Chiseltip · 29/12/2025 12:40

I'd expect this sort of behaviour from an Asda car park, but not Waitses.

Did you inform customer services?

They have a wellness room at the end of the delicatessen Isle, where you can have a sit down with a cup of tea and some ginger stem cookies. The door is beside the naice ham section. You can pop in there if something like this ever happens again.

Honestly. I'll bet she's a "new customer" who hasn't read the SUV section of the visitors handbook. She should know the rules, four wheel drive good, two wheel drive bad!

Is it really that hard?

People need to know their place. 🙄

Applecup · 29/12/2025 12:41

She was rude but you sound a CF by pinching her space.

MaidOfSteel · 29/12/2025 12:41

Seeing as you didn’t even notice her, so wouldn’t know if she was already indicating to pull into said space, we can’t possibly know who was in the wrong, can we.

Intrigued20 · 29/12/2025 12:41

I think she was waiting to park, you just sauntered in.
This would have pissed her off.

randomchap · 29/12/2025 12:41

Shouldn't there be a diagram?

Passaggressfedup · 29/12/2025 12:42

It happens, very occasionally that two people genuinely arrive at exactly the same time for a parking case.

The good standing manners in this case dictate that you both look at rach other, smile and do nothing until one indicates that the other goes ahead.

You saw she was aligning her car to reverse into it and sneaked in front first.

Common OP, you can't really be do surprised that she called you names 🙄

peacefulpeach · 29/12/2025 12:20

No way did this happen in a Waitrose cp.

Why doubt? Ive witnessed worse in both Waitrose and M and S Foodhall car parks!!

peacefulpeach · 29/12/2025 12:43

Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2025 12:29

Sounds more like Tesco behaviour, in ASDA you would have got stabbed OP

Thank god it didn’t happen in a Morrisons cp. There’d be no OP left to tell the tale.

All cp tomfoolery pales into insignificance when compared to school gate car parking..

🤔

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:24

Just adding context. I’m also 60 plus and blonde so no shade being thrown.

Ha, yeah right.

Ladybyrd · 29/12/2025 12:48

I was just clipping my daughter in the car the other day when the owner of the car next to me started huffing and puffing. I’d been there for all of a couple of seconds and she’d only just arrived. I think what she wanted was for me to stop because I was in her way and she was obviously much more important. I can’t be sure though since I turned my back and carried on as she stood there chuntering to herself.

Tis the season.

Only if you have scruples about running them over.😀

TBC99 · 29/12/2025 12:50

This is one reason why I park far away from the supermarket door and walk the 30 seconds it takes to get inside. Rarely any competition for spaces.

I'm a 60 something blonde, if it matters

Lurkingandlearning · 29/12/2025 12:50

CarpeVitam · 29/12/2025 12:17

Why is her being a 60-something ‘blonde’ relevant? 🤔

Agism is the last bastion for bigots.
