Supermarket carpark rage

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:12

Just popped to my local Waitrose to restock on the Belgian biscuits (half price!). As I drove in I spotted a nice convenient parking space outside the front of the store and pulled in, only vaguely aware of a vehicle approaching from my right. As I pulled in to park, the driver of the car, a 60 something blonde, started gesticulating and waving out of her window. I got out, saw that the car park was half empty so load of spaces for her. As I walked into the shop she shouted that I was a selfish bitch and worse!! In the store I saw her in the aisle and mentioned that I didn’t appreciate being sworn at by a total stranger. She repeated that I was a selfish bitch and threatened to punch me. At that point I realised I was on to a loser and went home. She’d left a note on my windscreen for good measure, again calling me a selfish bitch. I actually think she would have punched me if I hadn’t walked away. 2 questions - am I a selfish bitch? Genuinely didn’t see her and car park was half empty. Should I have reported her to the store manager or are threats of violence a factor of modern life that we all have to accept?

hopefully that will teach her to use her indicators or lights, not expect other drivers to be mind readers.

I can’t get over your taking the car to buy cheap biscuits, sorry

I did not see this criticism coming, OP you had better watch for Greta too now.

Greta’s moved on from the climate catastrophe now.

You've just reminded me of some crazy rage I saw in an out of town M&S car park the day before Christmas Eve. It was heaving. I was in my parking space ready to drive out of it, indicator on. A Woman looking for a space but who had missed me stopped in front of me so I couldn't get out, she was watching someone approach their car hoping to nab their space. I was mildly irritated because I had my engine on ready to go and if she'd just moved a couple of foot she could have my space. I tried waving but she was oblivious and I didn't want to beep in case she felt I was being angry. Anyway, the other shopper faffed for ages and eventually left. Ignorant woman made a massive fuss about getting in a position to reverse into said space but in the meantime angry man raged around the corner and nabbed her space. I sort of felt a bit pleased because she had kept me waiting ages at this point. She was then also angry and waving and shouting at angry man and gesticulating at me how outraged she was.

You don’t live near Stratford upon Avon by any chance 🤣

If a stranger threatened to punch me while I was in a public space then I absolutely would ask for help from either a member of staff or a member of the public. It would make me feel scared.

I know exactly the Waitrose you are describing and where those spaces are. I just hope you got your biscuits and that you didn’t run over the resident cat 😸😸

Clockyclockz · 29/12/2025 13:44

@peacefulpeach OP has now pissed of an old blonde & a young brunette. What’s next? a middle-aged redhead?!

BoredZelda · 29/12/2025 13:45

Nobody gets that annoyed over a space someone parks in unless it has been clearly swiped from them. If you are honestly entirely oblivious to where she was and what she was doing, perhaps pay more attention to those around you when driving.

Seeingadistance · 29/12/2025 13:46

TBC99 · 29/12/2025 12:50

This is one reason why I park far away from the supermarket door and walk the 30 seconds it takes to get inside. Rarely any competition for spaces.

I'm a 60 something blonde, if it matters

I do the same.

Late 50s, grey hair.

that's not true.

Plenty of people are idiots, or faffers or both. If they are clearly waiting with indicators on ready to reverse, fair enough.

If they just wait there, or are further, too bad.

Use indicators for a start.

The 60 something blonde should have paid more attention and realised the car park was half empty. Tunnel vision when driving is not a skill…

notacooldad · 29/12/2025 13:51

*60 something blonde
her age and hair colour are relevant because….?
Just adding context. I’m also 60 plus and blonde so no shade being thrown.
What context though? It doesn't matter what colour her hair us or that she is about 60.

OP didn’t say she was Only buying half price biscuits. She was probably stocking up on other luxuries, and house hold essentials too.

She mentions at least twice she has gone to get cut price biscuits. As Op has gone into loads of detail about age, the biscuits being Belgian, conveniently placed parking spaces, hair colour and age, Im pretty sure we would have had details off all the items she needed! 😆 🤣 😂

60 year old blonde was in a rush to buy reduced price Belgian biscuits as well!!

MirrorMirror1247 · 29/12/2025 12:15

You were there first and she's deranged.

This!! Please don't give this anymore thought - I know some of us find that difficult but she's not worth it.

Lovemycat2023 · 29/12/2025 13:54

I understand exactly what happened - I like to either reverse in (or drive through) to be able to drive out forward and this happens to me quite a bit as I’m obviously taking longer to park. As long as no-one has driven into anyone else there is no drama! She’s a bit bonkers.

CinnamonJellyBeans · 29/12/2025 13:56

YABU.

Why do you think she was so angry? She was clearly waiting for that space. If you had checked around you more thoroughly before driving in, you would have noticed this.

The right thing to do would be to pull back out, gesticulate your apology, exchange tinkly laughs and raised eyebrows. The exchange would have turned into a nice one, rather than something you're both ashamed of.

She could be unwell, a mean bitch or just thick. Reacting in such a deranged manner doesn’t suggest she was in the right, well not to me at least!

silkypyjamas · 29/12/2025 14:01

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 12:33

Nope. She was waiting to drive in. But we were both there at the same time - I just had the most convenient drive into the space. You can’t reserve a parking space by looking at it.

So if you didn't see her, how do you know she didn't have her hazard's or indicator on to get into the space and was just being courteous to you not believing for one moment that you would go into that space?!! That being said, I wouldn't have spoken to someone the way she did because of that, I would be annoyed, yes, but just might have discreetly taken something out of your trolley when you weren't looking and had a game of supermarket gaslighting 😎far more effective form of revenge served cold!!

JacknDiane · 29/12/2025 14:02

She sounds drunk

GrannyOog · 29/12/2025 14:05

Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2025 12:29

Sounds more like Tesco behaviour, in ASDA you would have got stabbed OP

My Tesco is delightful, only the most polite and well behaved people shop there. Now the local Morrisons, completely different story, stabbed and everyone would just stand over you on their way in.

Sudagame · 29/12/2025 14:09

randomchap · 29/12/2025 12:22

You would never get this at Booths

Hello fellow Northerner.

peacefulpeach · 29/12/2025 12:20

No way did this happen in a Waitrose cp.

Odd comment. People who shop at Waitrose are well-known for their anti-social behavior and threats of violence, especially in the cheese aisle. You never get that kind of thuggish behavior at Lidl, Aldi, or the one true beacon of polite manners and neighborliness (I am, of course, referring to Wetherspoons).

Note: The only physical fight I’ve ever seen between two women was actually at the cheese counter of an upscale grocer in Switzerland, so it was right to walk away after she threatened to punch you, @Cotswoldmum70 . You never know when out-of-stock cheddar is going to push someone over the edge.

WonderfulSmith · 29/12/2025 14:23

Cotswoldmum70 · 29/12/2025 13:33

It certainly did piss her off. She tore a Xmas card in half (nice card with a Robin) and wrote on the back “Enjoy being a selfish bitch” and tucked it under my front wiper. I actually feel lucky that she didn’t key my car. Best posts on here are
the ones that say never engage with the crazy angry person. Never going to go in your favour.

No she didn’t.

KissMyArt · 29/12/2025 12:23

Thank goodness you told us her age and hair colour.

That would've kept me up all night.

😂😂😂 as a blonde in her 60’s I had to double check I hadn’t been to Waitrose today 🙈

Kingsleadhat · 29/12/2025 14:27

CarpeVitam · 29/12/2025 12:17

Why is her being a 60-something ‘blonde’ relevant? 🤔

I was wondering this

I always find the nicest customers in Iceland, they will often ask if I want them to nick something for me too.

Because you are older and have more insurance ! (Thelma and Louise).
