Shall we solve each other’s simple problems?

So. I have a whole load of shit I’m dealing with that cannot be easily solved.

However I also have a variety of very straight forward issues that I could do with people helping with - so how about we all solve each other’s simple stuff??

Things I need help with and would appreciate answers from people who know:

  1. How many towels do I need for a family of four?
  2. What is the best way to keep Tupperware properly organised?
  3. What shoes do I need to be smart in all weather?

TIA?

Iv discoverd that I can't wear shoes with heels anymore.not even small ones .And IV got wide feet.
This stems from when I was born 70 years ago with club feet.
Any tips for where I can buy comfy shoes that aren't too nunnty

Doc Martens Mary Janes or very soft leather ballet flats (which are everywhere in the sales)

Ditch bath towels. Everyone gets a towelling bath robe - just need a few hand towels and Towelling turbans for wet hair.

I like this. At the moment we have towelling ponchos and bath towel mish mash.
The robe and turban idea is great.

@Merryoldgoat Chest of drawers with top two drawers sectioned with IKEA draw dividers.
Hair products in one, make up in another, jewelry in another and medicines in another.
I also section my undies.

I'm sick of having fucking freezing cold feet all the time. Doesn't matter what I try, thick socks, fur lined slippers, they're STILL cold.

@Cloudninelau La Redoute bedding is nice if you like prints.

They do good sales and I only buy 100% cotton plus they have nice contrasting pillowcases

Buy new Tupperware all
the same, that way you never have missing lids/trays.

Systema brand

How can I get my cat to take his drugs every evening? He used to lap them up mixed with a lik-e-lix with no problem. Now he looks at me as if I am going to kill him, does scrapy scrapy round the bowl and walks off. He has a crushed Amodip tablet and Laxatract so a pill pocket won’t help.

Can you ask the vet to put his medicine in liquid form which you can squirt down his throat?

(2) If you have the space, one shelf / cabinet space just for tupperware, and try stacking it according to its function.
(3) Leather hiking boots (there are fashionable ones out there). Make sure they are made from real leather, not artificial leather. Rain / chelsea boots don’t do well in snow or sleet.

Why is my indoor hibiscus dead again, anyone? I did not overwater it.

In response to @Merryoldgoat's question about Tupperware,
I don't have enough space in my cupboard to store each container with its lid on, so I have a big plastic box for all plastic containers, and another, smaller box for lids.
Then I use a coding system whereby I'll write on each container and corresponding lid a number, symbol or letter etc.
For all items of the same size, ie, with interchangeable lids, they all get the same marking, that way I can see at a glance which lids will fit which containers.

MeAndTheDoggo · 29/12/2025 05:54

The towel one I do similar to school jumpers when the kids were little. Bath towels definitely, One to wash, one to ‘wear’, one for spare.

Problem: The corner of the bottom sheet and the corner of the mattress cover sheet keep coming off/loose/untucked from the mattress.

Solution: What's the best way to prevent this happening?

GiantTeddyIsTired · 29/12/2025 07:50

I realise we're 11 pages on, but, I keep my tupperware in bigger tupperware

EG. The cups/bowl ones with lids that we use for fruit/porridge are all stacked sideways (lids at the front, cups/bowls as nested as they can be) at the back, inside the lid of a perfectly sized bigger tupperware which I have sacrificed for this purpose.

I have also bought some divider things, but they're too floppy really (I think they're meant for socks) so they're really just a guideline for where the tupperware should be going if by some miracle it's all used at once.

On towels, I've decided I hate bathsheets, so I have 2 hand-towels per bathroom, and a couple of matching mid-sized (I don't know what they're called - they'll go around, but you wouldn't want to answer the door in them) towels, then if someone does want a massive towel, they can use one of the Decathlon thin ones that we have to take on holiday. (mind you, we don't have towels each, MN will hate it, but we all shower at different times, so we just all use the same one and someone grabs a new one if they feel the urge/someone's wandered off with the previous one)

Laundry bags (to stop pet hair going in the WM) that go in the WM and don't fall apart at the seams almost immediately?

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 29/12/2025 09:53

@JohnTheRevelator how are your hands? Could it be Raynaud's disease?

Cracking idea for a thread - should be a weekly ‘let’s solve each others simple
problems’ thread!

My problem - I need to lose weight and focus on my health but just can’t stick to anything for more than a few days!

how do you get motivated and more importantly STAY motivated to get healthy and fit?

Allow yourself treats. Pick an amount per week, then when you have something unhealthy youre just having one of those treats as part of your plan rather than it mentally making you feel like giving up because of "failing".
Remember slim people still eat treats! It's about overall quantity and activity levels rather than sticking rigidly to a diet.

Ok, mine: I have a lot of enamelware plates and trays (white/blue rim) which have become covered in yellow stains over the years, especially if they've been used in baking. Can I get the stains off? I don't have a dishwasher.

MrsSquirrel1013 · 29/12/2025 11:18

First time trying to do a link 🙄 anyway I came across these - search for Mattress Corner Holders on Temu.

Soak in milton overnight then scrub em.
