Shall we solve each other’s simple problems?

Merryoldgoat · 26/12/2025 17:46

So. I have a whole load of shit I’m dealing with that cannot be easily solved.

However I also have a variety of very straight forward issues that I could do with people helping with - so how about we all solve each other’s simple stuff??

Things I need help with and would appreciate answers from people who know:

  1. How many towels do I need for a family of four?
  2. What is the best way to keep Tupperware properly organised?
  3. What shoes do I need to be smart in all weather?

TIA?

Should I go swimming at Centerparcs tonight after dinner? Pool closes at 8, it’s our last night but it’s very cold out there and I’m comfy.

I think you should. Unless you go there very regularly or have easy access to a pool at home. Back in your lodge by 830 and relax for the rest of the evening.

user46256728992 · 26/12/2025 18:42

We’re a family of 4 with an entire airing cupboard full of towels, so I’d say as many as you can store!

I’ve got some Pyrex dishes with lids that I sometimes freeze stuff in, but otherwise no Tupperware. Just put some cling film over a plate if its leftovers for the fridge.

Trainers, comfort is king!

Yes! The rapids when it's cold and dark are absolute heaven. Also puts off a load of kids (and adults) when it's cold so it's quieter and more relaxed!

@Merryoldgoat

  1. 2 large bath towels per person in the house. 1 to use one to wash. Then 2 hand towel each bathroom one to use one to wash.
  2. you can’t. Give it up as a shit job all in same drawer
  3. I really like allbirds wool trainers but not overly smart. Or a leather Chelsey boot style.

my issue….when Mitchum fucked up and changed the deodorant formula and burnt my pits to bits it had also left pit stains on my T-shirts and I can’t get them out. I’ve switched deo now using fussy but I cannot get the stains out. So any ideas before o replace all my T-shirts?

Ahsheeit · 26/12/2025 18:46

2 bath sheets, 2 bath towels each.

https://amzn.eu/d/f8gln0P for Tupperware.

Shoes, I wear Docs all year round.

LiftAndLetLift · 26/12/2025 18:48

x2 towels per person (one to use, one in the wash) plus hand/hair towels

Stacked. Key is to have multiples of the same one. Lids are a law onto themselves.

Black timberland boots

My problems

  1. Choose a specialist endometriosis surgeon
  1. Should I paint new skirting boards before or after DH fits them
Misanthropologie · 26/12/2025 18:51

1 For each person two large bath sheets and two smaller bath towels for drying hands and hair. Each person gets a different colour to minimise the possibility of using someone else's towel in error.

2 Pick a shape and stick to it. Different sizes of the same shape will nest or stack easily, but square Tupperware will never co-exist happily with round Tupperware.

3 Waterproof ankle boots for all seasons except high summer when you can (briefly) get your sandals out.

My 11yo daughter (Y6) has produced a Pinterest board for her bedroom which is all red, black gothic, dark, lots of velvet and fabrics. Feels too grown-up for her. But maybe I'm just out of touch (she's a developing goth, I never have been). Decorating starts tomorrow. I've agreed on red walls.

Q: How much goth us too much goth when you're still in primary school? 🤔

usedtobeaylis · 26/12/2025 18:56

Doesn't everyone just have two shelves full of towels that are mismatched in both size and colour 🤔

Edited

This is my daughter, a year younger, but with purple instead of red. Honestly, I went with it, it's her space - and it looked surprisingly ok. There's enough 'kid' stuff in there to tone it down eg Taylor Swift posters.

  1. Two bath sheets, two smaller towels for each female family members/males who care about their hair, two hand towels for each bathroom.
  1. Chuck anything you have already and buy a new set that completely matches. Store in its own drawer/cupboard.
  1. Black leather Chelsea boots.

My own small problem:

  • I have a selection of old, non-matching sofa cushions. Should I continue to let them annoy me on a daily basis, or replace them? If replace, what colour cushions for a pair of light grey sofas?

Mustard cushion covers from ikea would look great on grey sofas

How about mid to dark blue cushions?

Merryoldgoat · 26/12/2025 19:04

Thank you everyone!

I am going to move to an 8 towel paradigm plus hand towels and two head towels.

Tupperware is still problematic but I’ll think on it.

Will look further Chelsea boots 👌🏾

@LiftAndLetLift paint after fitting. I bought pre-painted ones and they got dinged and knocked during installation. Better to paint in situ.

Currently yes but it’s making me irrationally angry for no reason.

This feels significant… how is this not common knowledge??

Some of my towels have been from trying to impose some kind of order and system - it always fails 😆

My problem is my 'new' hob - sadly not induction. We had an induction before which was amazing but it cracked, DH went to buy a new hob, fitted it then I realised it wasn't induction.

It is shit. Nothing colours or browns when I cook on it. Am I doing something wrong? Seriously about ready to rip the thing out myself and go buy a new induction one! Help!

I’ve never had an induction hob and have no difficulty browning stuff so I suspect it’s a usage issue.

  1. Minimum of 1 set each and 2 spare sets. Wash towels on the same day as bedding and wash / dry one bedrooms worth every X days (X depends on how MN germophobic/ relaxed you are!)
  2. Lids on. When fridge/freezer is fairly full of tupperware, ruthlessly cull the remaining tupperware!!
  3. Leather boots that are expensive enough that you take great care of them!

Now.... should I have soup and crusty bread or leftover cauliflower cheese for my supper?

Merryoldgoat · 26/12/2025 19:10

@NotDarkGothicMama

I would get new cushions. What colour palette is your room?

Grey is surprisingly versatile. Pinks,
yellows, greens, blues can all work with grey.

  1. two large bath sheets and two bath towels per person plus one spare of each.
  2. In baskets - one for tubs, one for lids. Write a number on each tub and the same number on the lid so you know which ones match. Be ruthless about throwing them out once you can't find either the tub or the lid.
  3. Depends on lots of factors. A decent Chelsea boot is versatile!

Before he fits them, then you dont have to worry about walls and floors!

Only of there’s rapids to go down. If there are and you don’t go, you will spend all year regretting it as they’re such simple, fun. I was at CP last week and went every day to ride the rapids, oh the joy!

Cauliflower cheese soup? My favourite.

Paint the skirting boards before fitting, and just touch out any blemishes. Extra points if you can do it outside.

I have a tupperware drawer in the hall but sandwich boxes live in a box above the fridge. Lids are colour coded to bases.
