Shall we solve each other’s simple problems?

So. I have a whole load of shit I’m dealing with that cannot be easily solved.

However I also have a variety of very straight forward issues that I could do with people helping with - so how about we all solve each other’s simple stuff??

Things I need help with and would appreciate answers from people who know:

  1. How many towels do I need for a family of four?
  2. What is the best way to keep Tupperware properly organised?
  3. What shoes do I need to be smart in all weather?

TIA?

Can I ask what frying pan shall I get if wanting to stop using a Teflon one?
Not too expensive but hopefully will last well for a few years?

Tkmaxx do good ones. I got a set of Italian made ones a few years back but can't remember the name.

Took a few visits, so don't settle for any old.

Also, whilst looking at brands you don't know, do a quick Google search to see reviews for quality.

Mine were a tiny fraction of the online price.

Sorry can't qoute as now can't find post on help keeping motivated on losing weight.

Think of your goals and keep telling yourself it's actually a reward for better health.

Someone once told me to look at exercise as a treat and indulgence as what it is, a weakness.

You can control your weaknesses, so they don't get to control you.

I'm someone who used to eat chocolate every single day and felt I couldn't function without it.

Now, even though I still eat it, I eat much less.

  1. Two bath sheets, two smaller towels for each female family members/males who care about their hair, two hand towels for each bathroom.
  1. Chuck anything you have already and buy a new set that completely matches. Store in its own drawer/cupboard.
  1. Black leather Chelsea boots.

My own small problem:

  • I have a selection of old, non-matching sofa cushions. Should I continue to let them annoy me on a daily basis, or replace them? If replace, what colour cushions for a pair of light grey sofas?

Chuck cushions, invest in kilim /tapestry ones with muted colours. As they age they'll only get better and outlive the sofas, go with anything. I got beautiful ones from Marrakesh.

I've repurposed an old magazine rack for my notebooks that I used to keep on the footstool. It's tucked down beside the sofa so less visible but still easy to reach

Just returning to this thread to say thanks to those who encouraged me to get the patch of skin on my forehead checked. I was referred to dermatology, they said it wasn't anything sinister, it was probably a viral wart?! But they froze it off with cryotherapy so it's gone now!

Should I go swimming at Centerparcs tonight after dinner? Pool closes at 8, it’s our last night but it’s very cold out there and I’m comfy.

Not good to swim on a full stomach.

I really love this thread. There's an account on facebook that posts short videos of tackling small jobs around their house to make it a small bit better, and it gives me the same feeling of motivation as here, but without the shared ideas!
I could do with replacing the wallplugs behind my sink to stop it wobbling which Ive been putting off for months now 🤔

Ok. The new Towel Paradigm is working very well as is as is Tupperware Central thank to you clever people.

I’m onto the hallway and wondering if I need to have complementary decor in the hallway and living room as there is I door (just a doorway) between the two. I want a really bold hallway and am planning a feature wallpaper and a coloured paint for doors and skirting but will it we weird if the scheme doesn’t follow through to the living room?

Problem: The corner of the bottom sheet and the corner of the mattress cover sheet keep coming off/loose/untucked from the mattress.

Solution: What's the best way to prevent this happening?

For some reason I bought these - they didn't fit because matresses come in different sizes (who knew?) - I took some delight throwing them in the bin.

@MrsSquirrel1013 After some careful analysis - I bought these - and with some help lifting the mattress they work fine.

My problem is I have ADHD and fibromyalgia.....I decided to give into my ADHD brain for a week or so, live spontaneously and throw all my routine out the window and with that all my fibromyalgia pain has vanished. However I have to get into a routine again because life.....so how without triggering the fibromyalgia?

  1. Is it normal to have to clean my dishwasher filter twice a week? For some reason this task really winds me up.
  1. A tiny patch of dry skin at top of forehead, which has been there for ages. Less than a centimetre, really just a single flake. I've tried anti fungal cream, a cream containing urea, face oil, glycolic acid, nothing has made any difference. It's not itchy or sore at all, and the rest of my face isn't particularly dry. What to try next?
Edited

Did you sort it out? If not. I'd get some coconut oil or caster oil as a carrier oil and add a few drops of different essential oils, each for a few days, until you find one which one works.

...lavender first maybe, then tea tree, then one of the others.....

I have just a door between the sitting room and the hallway too. My sitting room is dark navy and my hallway is lavender with a darker purple feature wall. I love colour so I don't care if they clash. I think the important thing in a hallway is that it feels bright and welcoming.

I don't think they need to flow at all.

I didn't get any jobs done in the end, but I've come up with a list of things for me to work through over the next few weeks.

I have had to force myself to stop when I'm in the middle of doing something, breaking it down into smaller jobs and stopping after 1 or 2 and then resting, well before my pain increases too much or I get too tired and then crash. It's taken me ages to try and get on top of, but it really is a revelation!

petitpasta · 12/04/2026 22:01

My hopefully simple problem is that I need a cutlery organiser that fits a 38cm deep drawer. I like the Joseph Joseph ones but they're 40cm. If I could find a shorter version of that it would make me very happy

xAwaywiththefairiesx · 13/04/2026 13:25

My ones a bit embarrassing.

My oven broke. It's the landlord's and he will probably fix/replace it but he's going to want to look at it first. Trouble is it's such a mess. It needs professionally cleaning before I can let him see it. It's beyond the "oven pride" stage, but I think professional oven cleaners use the oven to burn stuff off and they're not going to be able to do that if the oven doesn't work so what shall I do?

Currently managing with just the hob and air fryer but I want to make pasta bakes, pizzas, shepherds pies and lasagna again!!

Geneticsbunny · 13/04/2026 14:47

Professional oven cleaners dont need the oven to be on. They just use elbow grease and really good products. When i am its around £60

It's £90 here 😭 and I am sure she was turning the oven on and off last time

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 13/04/2026 15:17

Does anyone know the best oven cleaning product you can get in a normal supermarket?

AbzMoz · 13/04/2026 15:33

Oven pride or elbow grease oven cleaner kits (edited to clarify the brand is called elbow grease, not an instruction to get those muscles working!)

I think they’re about £3-4 from supermarkets, likely cheaper from poundshop. Need to VENTILATE and RINSE!

MylipstickiscalledHugMe · 13/04/2026 15:48

That's great, thank you

Can't you make all those in the air fryer?
