Wearing pyjamas around the house?

Just a lighthearted one!

At weekends I always come downstairs in my PJs, have a slow morning and a cuppa before getting ready for the day. And in the evenings, once I’ve put my daughter to bed, I normally get straight back into my PJs (as long as I’m not expecting company!) and then go downstairs to watch TV/relax until it’s actually time to go up to bed.

My friend seems to think this is weird and that pyjamas should only ever be worn in the bedroom. For clarity, we’re not talking anything revealing — just long bottoms and a T-shirt, the comfy kind you could answer the door in if the postman knocked!

Surely I’m not the only one who does this? Is wearing PJs around the house really that unusual?

Would love to know what everyone else does!

This is absolutely not weird! I love lounging around in my pjs on a lazy weekend morning.

MummytoE · 10/12/2025 18:25

If I don't have plans that involve going outside I likely would keep the jammies on all day. Saves on washing as well

Gymbunny2025 · 10/12/2025 18:26

Totally normal imho! I’m currently rocking an oodie too 😂

Mariammaom · 10/12/2025 18:26

Of course you can wear comfortable lounge/sleep wear in your own home!!!

Ladamesansmerci · 10/12/2025 18:26

As soon as I get in from work, I put PJs on 😂 I don't have comfy/lounging clothes. I don't want to sit around in jeans or a dress!

foodlovefood · 10/12/2025 18:26

Not weird. At times I haven’t changed out of them all day. In fact changed out of leggings into my pjs to watch tv tonight.

TheFinePrintess · 10/12/2025 18:27

If I’m not leaving the house I often wear pjs all day! ( clean ones - I take them off when I get in bed)

Mariammaom · 10/12/2025 18:27

Does your friend expect you to ‘dress up’ to watch tv on your sofa Hmm

imnothavingagoodtime · 10/12/2025 18:28

If I’m not going out at the weekend I’ll often wear PJs all day and then have a long bath and put on fresh PJs. It’s not weird, it’s wonderful. Your friends are missing out!

Zanatdy · 10/12/2025 18:29

it’s your friend who is weird. Everyone I know does the same as you.

Winterwonderwhy · 10/12/2025 18:29

Why do you care about what your friend thinks or does in her own home?

Vaxtable · 10/12/2025 18:29

When I worked in an office as soon as I got home PJs went on. Now I wfh I have been known to work in my PJs on occasions. And certainly each evening come 6.30pm the pjs are on

your friend is wrong

JoshLymanSwagger · 10/12/2025 18:32

I'm in PJ bottoms and a big grey t shirt now.

Your house. Your rules.
Wear what you like, just remember the postie has probably seen more/less iyswim. 😳

rainbow231 · 10/12/2025 18:37

If I’m in, I’m generally in pjs. Might be clean ones and clean pants by day, but always in comfies. V rude of your friend to be so judgmental tbh!

Mariammaom · 10/12/2025 18:39

Why do you care?

Hankunamatata · 10/12/2025 18:40

I clean in my pj's at the weekend too

LeftBoobGoneRogue · 10/12/2025 18:40

I don’t think it’s wrong to wear PJs around the house. Everyone has their own way of living and I wouldn’t be criticising anyone for doing it.
However I never would personally. I didn’t have a single pair of PJs until 3 months ago when I bought some because I was having day surgery and I was concerned what I would wear if I had to stay in overnight. The PJs have not been worn and are languishing in a drawer with tags still on. Once I’m up and had a coffee, I have a shower and get dressed and stay in my day clothes until bedtime.
I wouldn’t be someone who left the house in PJs and dressing gown that’s for certain.

Crispynoodle · 10/12/2025 18:41

I have day time PJs (loungewear) and night time PJs neither requires the wearing of a bra….

NoSoupForU · 10/12/2025 18:41

In my own home I'll dress however I'm comfy, which generally means pjs if I'm not working. Why to fuck do I need to dress up and what for??

I don't wear pjs to bed anyway.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/12/2025 18:42

Hell yeah. 😃

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 10/12/2025 18:43

The joys of an elasticated waist. It’s what weekends are all about.

Blankscreen · 10/12/2025 18:45

I have comfy lounge wear that I change into asap and then at bed time I get changed into thin cotton pyjamas as otherwise I'd be too hot in bed.

But I don't think there anything wrong with being in pjs/lounge wear when at home. It would feel weird to me to wear jeans etc in the evening.

snoopythebeagle · 10/12/2025 18:48

I personally feel really grotty if I wear pajamas during the day - I'll get up, get showered and change into leggings and a top/hoody instead. So, comfortable but for me, it's important for my mental health to get up and get "ready" even if I'm not going anywhere.

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 10/12/2025 18:48

I kind of understand it in the summer months, although I'd never do it. But not in the winter months. PJs are loungewear and are more suited to bed.

truffleruffle · 10/12/2025 18:48

Everyone does these days it’s comfortable
