I've seen these threads before and thought how on earth did you not know! How big must your house be to have a secret room.
Our house is not massive, 4 bed, normal size not really old or anything.
But there's a super creepy room. Hidden at the back of the loft, It's got carpet, wall paper and even spot lights! And a director's chair... just sitting in the middle of it! It's weird.

Shine a UV light over all the surfaces and see what shows up...

Don't do this. You'll have to move 😂

Ohwhatswrong · 07/12/2025 20:01

It's just the feeling it gives me.
I love the house, there's absolutely nothing wrong with it and everything works. Unlike our last house.
It doesn't make me regret buying this house.
It's just, a very, very unusual thing to see.

Have you lived much in houses with attics? It's not very unusual at all. You have struts supporting the structure and creating the short wall and space, and people quite often board and roughly decorate one part of the attic. The house I live in (Victorian) and the house I grew up in (1920s) both have similar sections. It's unusual that you didn't notice it but you can't have looked very hard!

...down to the ground floor. You climb down exploring them all, but slip when you get to the last one, ending up in a space barely big enough for your body. The walls judder and the precariously balanced hatch slams shut 😫 There's no handle on the inside and since you live alone, nobody to hear your screams. The house stands empty for decades until the council seizes it and sells it at auction because there's a housing crisis. That's how 100 years later the new owner realises the outside wall is longer than the inside wall, has a poke around and realises the inside wall is hollow. Deciding to open it up for more room, they happily start upon their demolition project, where they discover all the secret rooms. Satisfied with their days work, they stand back to admire their progress. They're horrified, as the dust settles, to see a skeletal hand poking up from the rubble...

Are you a writer

I want the next chapter

It’s prob a work /office space

LuckyCharmz · 07/12/2025 20:35

If you want some inspo, have a look at theaverycottage on insta, they’ve just done a remarkably similar room to yours and transformed it from horror story to fairy tale.

Yes - someone could have set it up for home teams calls during the pandemic

PigeonsandSquirrels · 07/12/2025 20:38

Very creepy. That seems like a criminal filming / photography studio or something.

We found a room in my university house underneath the bin shed. All that was there was a circle of chairs, some graffiti on the walls and a photo in the middle of the circle of a group of teenager-ish aged boys and girls. Dated on the back to 30 years prior.

If a film poster or a book cover features a lone chair like that, it’s usually used for torture.

Tbf though - a film about someone quietly watching tv, away from their annoying family, would be pretty dull.

You could turn that into a really cute little snug.

Transform it, then it'll stop giving you the heebeegeebees.

Some of these responses are brilliant 😂
We are semi-detached, there is no window, I don't know what that green frame is.
I won't have time to look up there as we are out all day. I'll have to do it tomorrow because I don't want to look up there at night time 🙈.
I will take pictures. It doesn't have a door to get into it, it's just at the back with a low wall to climb over/ step over to get in.
I didn't see it when I looked up there, it was only when the sky engineer had to go in there probably he mentioned it.
It has sockets and stuff. It's just creepy. We didn't look in the loft when viewed the house. Like I said no windows up there from the outside but I'm very intrigued what the green frame is too!

The 'green frame' is likely a cupboard door to the lower ends of the eaves (the loft area is mostly boarded out to make use of the height, but the sides are too shallow, iyswim so tend to be blocked off and used for storage)

There is nowt weird about this.

I don't think they'd bring wallpaper to give the game away and live in a chair in an open space like that!!

LoveToRun866 · 07/12/2025 22:15

I just can't imagine living in a house and not knowing there was part of it I didn't know existed.
Having said that, ours is a small terrace, and properties do come in all shapes and sizes.

"Our brains are wired" ... Look at AI trying to lull us into thinking it's human. Now that's scary!

Glad if you are feeling reassured though OP.

Lostxmasfairy · 07/12/2025 23:30

Google lens says
The image appears to show a small, hidden room or converted attic space, potentially used as a private retreat or storage area.
The confined, A-frame structure suggests a repurposed area, possibly a small attic or a space under the stairs.

The use of patterned wallpaper and carpeting indicates an attempt to make the space comfortable or decorative.

It contains a single black chair and recessed lighting, suggesting a functional, albeit small, area.

Such hidden spaces are sometimes used for storage of valuables, as a quiet refuge, or even as a "panic room".

CHAT GPT IS A LIAR 😆 That bastard AI is pulling you into a false sense of security, by explaining your fears 😨
It will be a sly shit and get you on its side, then...BAM!
It will take over your life like a modern day nightmare and pretend to look out for your offspring, like M3GAN! 😫

Don't fall for it @Ohwhatswrong
It will then take you to that small, weird, dinghy interrogation room, and you will never see the light of day!
Oh the wall paper!
Oh the uncomfortable chair!
Oh the agony!
😫 😭 😩

Right. That's enough Internet for me today,
enjoy your creepy hidden hell-hole that will be the stuff of nightmares, or it may fetch your house more money as a hidden extra bedroom 🙏 😆 🤣

EDITED TO SAY: time for me to pour a well deserved glass of port
😆 🍷 😉
