What should replace sprouts in a Xmas dinner?

Clearly they take up valuable space that could be better utilised. So what should we have instead? Probably veg is good to have, but let's have a decent one instead.

And let's keep this honest. We are all grown ups here, so nobody needs to pretend to like the balls of doom. Even if you are adding bacon or chestnuts to hide the taste of them.

Chocolate and cheese

weaselwords · 02/12/2025 18:17

Nothing. Nothing can replace their perfection.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 02/12/2025 18:18

Has to be sprouts.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 02/12/2025 18:18

Brocoli and/or cauliflower. There's also green beans. I actually like a sprout or 2 once a year but equally if I never saw another one I'd be fine, whereas loss of those other 3 veg would make me sad.

CatsorDogsrule · 02/12/2025 18:18

I love sprouts. No need to disguise them. 🤷‍♀️

TheendofmrY · 02/12/2025 18:19

But the only proper place for sprouts is on a Christmas dinner and a Christmas dinner is not a Christmas dinner without some sprouts. This is a hill I’d be willing to die on.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 02/12/2025 18:19

I like sprouts with bacon and chestnuts. I'd replace with green beans, also with bacon and chestnuts.

Thehop · 02/12/2025 18:20

I bloody love soggy sprouts 😍

What @weaselwords said.

Coffeeishot · 02/12/2025 18:21

I love brussel sprouts although if I had to replace them it would be with extra pigs in blankets 😀

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 02/12/2025 18:21

You replace the sprouts with more sprouts. I'm thinking this year I'm going to do both steamed sprouts and roast sprouts. Love those things.

TheShed7 · 02/12/2025 18:21

You don't need to.pretend guys. Your mum and dad aren't forcing them down you any more. You're free to eat edible food now

Some lovely braised red cabbage. Cooked with a little apple and apple cider vinegar and plenty of butter. I could eat a whole one if my guts would ever let me

KittyHigham · 02/12/2025 18:21

Another, (fully grown up) sprout lover who will defend their place on the plate at Christmas!

OMGitsnotgood · 02/12/2025 18:22

We all love sprouts. Would replace another green veg, I would go for broccoli or green beans

Wordsmithery · 02/12/2025 18:22

Why replace God's own vegetable?

gannett · 02/12/2025 18:22

Charred hispi cabbage

shellyleppard · 02/12/2025 18:23

Braised red cabbage ❤️ can't stand the little balls of green but I always had to eat one to keep my nan happy 🤣

DappledThings · 02/12/2025 18:23

Love sprouts. We have them at least twice a month with a roast or roasted woth broccoli and halloumi as a main meal. You're just wrong OP!

MiddleAgedDread · 02/12/2025 18:23

I genuinely love sprouts, even without chestnuts and bacon and whatever shit people add to them. I’ve had them 3 times in the last week already!

EuroTour · 02/12/2025 18:23

More sprouts 💚💚💚

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 02/12/2025 18:24

I adore sprouts!

Linenpickle · 02/12/2025 18:24

Extra Yorkshire puddings!

Literally anything would be better replacing the sprouts of wrath.
No other vegetable looks like this.
