To think Britain is getting more racist ?

Overt anti "foreigner" / anti non-white discussions appear to be normalised at times these days. I don't remember this in previous decades. Was it just under the surface ?

OP posts:
wiffin · 28/11/2025 22:25

Current populist (and in some cases facist) politics has also normalised, legitimised and made mainstream things that were not OK a few years ago. Am honestly not sure if more people are racist. Or just more people are comfortable about openly being racist.

Pretty horrible really.

I do wonder what these racist, DM reading, Reform supporters are going to think when suddenly 1/2 of Bangladesh becomes uninhabitable due to sea level rise and then 8 million Bangladeshis need a new home. We are already seeing Tehran is massively struggling with the climate crisis. No doubt there’ll be a few 1,000 Iranians coming to join us and some people would love to send them home.

They could go to India or Pakistan

bluesky9 · 28/11/2025 22:31

You're absolutely correct @JifNtGif. I thought i was embarrassed to be white British after the Brexit campaign and the resulting chaos. Never did i think that we would reach this low. I work in a city centre supermarket that serves mainly immigrant communities. Their fear is palpable, aided by some colleagues outright hostility and racism. I report it and fuck all happens. Our customers pay my wages and I learn a lot - from asking how they cook with particular ingredients, etc. They enrich me. It really upsets me actually when they thank me for being polite to them. No human deserves thst degradation. Im not a Marxist, but he was spot on when he said "human beings complete each other"

unsync · 28/11/2025 22:35

I don't think levels have changed, it's just more overt now. People don't seem to have any shame now.

ohyesido · 28/11/2025 16:54

Course it is, this country is teeming with ignorant people who don’t actually realise they are being racist

Yet some sections of the community seem to be permitted to spew hatred unfettered while the police look on like friendly uncles

Teathecolourofcreosote · 28/11/2025 22:40

I think it's time we tackled racism in all its guises.

There are views in other communities based on race, colour or religion that we permit because of 'culture'.

This is never addressed..

Combined with shouting racist at any legitimate concern, it is enabling the extremists to claim a narrative.

I can still remember seeing a female politician from Rochdale trying to raise the issues we now sadly know more about in a TV debate years before it all came out. She wasn't extreme in any way but was given a very hard time and dismissed entirely.

Our more moderate politicians need to be braver or we are going to end up in a bad place.

Gonesocoldsosuddenly · 28/11/2025 22:51

Not more racist, but I think the way immigration is going in many parts of the world has now become too much for a lot of people
I do think a great deal are against islam as a religion and way of life

I think that it is because the native British population is going to be the minority by 2050 at current immegration rates.
This is bound to lead to an identity movement of what it means to be native British that did not exist before as there was no need, and as a reaction to sliding into minority marginal position with and competing with other groups for jobs and resources.

Ah, native British. What does that mean? The Iceni, Taexali, Silures?

Please define what the native British is.

It is hard to debate when we have vague, nebulous terms.

nomas · 29/11/2025 02:58

Yep, I’ve had a few incidents and micro aggressions.

It’s got to the point where I don’t speak to strangers who are white people unless they speak to me. Once they speak to me and show they’re nice, then I’m happy to chat.

Notwithstanding my colleagues and friends of course.

Justchilling07 · 29/11/2025 03:14

Buzyizzy217 · 28/11/2025 19:55

Mass immigration? No mate, just a few.

So you agree with illegal immigration? No one should be able to enter any country, without a passport
other countries control their borders, so why it wrong for the uk, to have the same protocol?

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 29/11/2025 05:17

RightSheSaid · 28/11/2025 16:56

It's always been racist. The difference is now people feel emboldened to voice their opinions because of people like Boris and Farage. It become more overt.

This.

people have claimed the English are very tolerant. They’ve always been racist. But their overt racism has, up until 2016, been quashed.

I don’t think the English are the only ones.

hattie43 · 29/11/2025 05:19

I don’t think I’ve ever known this country so divided about everything , racism yes but also young v old , working class v middle class ? Woke v non woke , north v south it goes on , the culture wars are raging .

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 29/11/2025 05:33

Asking a primarily white group of women about racism, is like asking a group of men about sexism.

ThePolarEspresso · 28/11/2025 20:39

I understand rape is genocide. Have you seen the estimates of English girls? Economically and via DEI English homes and business have been burnt to the ground IMHO.

I can't post anymore atm, I am too upset.

I think a lot of your posts have been borderline racist, e.g.:

-move here and claim social housing along with in-work benefits

  • move here and demand taxpayers, fund you and 4 wives with 5 kids each in separate taxper funded homes and expect the working population to fund you, whilst crying that you are not popular with everyone.

I also find it completely hypocritcal that anyone from a country with mass emigration, whose compatriots have experienced bigotry and xenophobia (e.g. the signs in the windows of homes to rent in English cities saying 'No black, no dogs, no Irish) has no sympathy with later waves of migration, often due to the UK getting involved in foreign wars such as Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Linking to Dan Wooton as a reliable source on anything is laughable. He was sacked by GB News for God's sake. If you are too right wing for GB News, you are in the gutter.

How do you define 'the native British population'? Is it just white people or do they have to be able to trace their ancestors back a few generations?

magicalmadmadamim · 29/11/2025 06:39

No.
People just don't want mass immigration the way it currently is, I am an immigrant myself in Europe and I know that most countries are rightfully much pickier about who they let over the border to gain residency.
It is neither racist nor insert word phobic to expect some level of scrutiny.
There is also the fact that the U.K is a very small island which is incredibly overcrowded, lets not pretend otherwise! Europe has fare more open spaces between towns and cities.
You need to have hatred in your heart for it to be racism
A mutual friend called me a racist c*nt a few months ago, all because i said the flags looked nice!
Needless to say she went in the bin after that.
The left seem to think its fine to call people names if their views don't align.
Most of these people haven't had their lives directly affected by immigration and sit in their ivory towers bleating away.

What was it that Farage said to fellow pupils at his school? That Hitler was right? And people (including on Mumsnet) make no secret of wanting to vote for him, because he is promising miracles, and the moon on a stick.

Apparently, he didn't do this in a 'hurtful' way! Just a bit of light anti-semitism between friends. Well that's what he said before changing tack to completely denial, even though there were many witnesses to his abuse of a Jewish fellow pupil.

Oh yes. And in 2020, we saw exactly how ugly it can be: masked v unmasked, jabbed v unjabbed, lockdown lovers v conspiracy theorists, killing the economy v killing granny, with some of these encouraged by government. “You should report anyone you believe to be breaking the highly complicated roolz. Keep focused on that, while we party in Downing Street.”

GentleOlive · 29/11/2025 08:12

It is probably true that Britain is getting less tolerant not more racist, and white saviour syndrome and wokery is responsible for that. And that’s a consequence of decades of being told how racist the country is, however white should be ashamed of being white.

Then comes the absolute farce and abuse of the immigration system and rapid cultural change in the country and everyone gaslit and forced into thinking that forced marriages, cousin marriages, FGM, sexual assault on women is just a by product multiculturalism that is price worth paying. That inner city ghettos with mainly immigrant communities are Cultural hubs and not a symbol of failure. That expecting people to speak English as a pre requisite is cruel. That almost all asylum seekers are economic migrants. That the country does not need low skilled immigration, high skilled is good. That one million foreign born people on benefits is a scandal. That 18 million people coming in the last 25 years is simply madness. That immigration since that time has been bad for this country.

The numbers a problem. If they had been lower and people coming in high skilled only and able to integrate, immigration wouldn’t have been a problem.

Shabana Mahmood is right, that the levels and quality of immigration is responsible for rising intolerance. Shame she’s not going to do anything about it, despite all the soundbites.

This post nails the issue.

I would add that if people want diversity it does not mean to allow huge numbers of people from the same country to come here. That is not diversity. Also, these people are bringing their culture of oppression to the poorer people of their own country. I am waiting for the huge scandal of the modern slavery to be really exposed.

May be ask yourself what would happened if people carry on denying that mass immigration is an issue? Farage knows this. Like all populists with an agenda he is seizing the moment.

Yamamm · 29/11/2025 09:10

Yes. But still generally less racist and more tolerant than the migrants we are told we are racist and intolerant about. More migration means less tolerance.
