Discussion with friends. Very heated disagreement. Unreasonable wearing knickers . Reasonable not wearing knickers

Why are some people so frightened of wearing knickers?

Considering something unnecessary isn't the same as being frightened of it.

That’s different. However, we had post after post of “no knickers or you get thrush” and warnings of “yet…” if posters say they don’t get them. That’s fear. And tbh… the other side of the coin of the “ewwww manky “ .

i don't wear them because i was raised in a 'no knickers at night' family, and the only time i've had to wear them is time of the month, and they're fucking uncomfortable and itchy, and upset/irritate my skin wearing them 24/7.

I didn't know that choosing to do something for my health and comfort qualified as 'scared'

I wear mine for comfort too (just a different type),not because I think not wearing them with or without pyjamas (no matter how often they’re washed) is dirty.

I just find it that most of the comments on either side are based on “dirty” and some form of fear, thrush, bacteria, secretions etc.

landlordhell · 23/11/2025 16:52

I think for people who are prone to thrush, they will not take the extra risk of perfect fungal breeding conditions. If you never suffer then go ahead!

Zov · 23/11/2025 17:01

YABU. Not wearing knickers with pyjamas is grim. 💀

Jazz7 · 23/11/2025 17:02

Why wear anything in bed?

If you put clean PJ's on a clean body why is there the need for daily changing?

I’m thinking some people wear close fitting PJs that cling to the crotch area getting secretions on them. Just as you change underwear daily for the same reasons, it’s not a great stretch to imagine why they might change their PJ bottoms

No knickers and I think people who wear knickers are a bit gross, sorry!

I defintely think it’s uptight that’s for sure. My DD went for a sleepover at a friends house when she was at primary school and her friends mum made her put on knickers in under her pj’s. I thought she was a nut job tbh. And on the subject of “airing” I’m afraid the idea that’s it’s an old wives tale is mistaken. It is literally advised on the NHS website. I dare say you can google it to double check.

Do you not change your underwear every day?

Pokotho · 23/11/2025 17:56

I don't generally wear anything in bed (except fluffy socks because my feet get cold) but when I do wear pj's, I am team no knickers. Feels too restrictive and sweaty for me personally, when I'm trying to be comfy.

Peachandpassionfruit · 23/11/2025 17:59

A gynaecologist told me years ago to only wear cotton knicks, go commando whenever feasible and no knickers under PJs.

ginasevern · 23/11/2025 18:01

I'm going to get slaughtered here but I don't care. Wearing knickers to bed was always thought to be a very working class habit. Possibly born from freezing cold houses originally but continued over the years as the thing to do. Personally, I don't think it's healthy or necessary.

ItsInTheSingingOfAStreetCornerChoir · 23/11/2025 18:01

Knickers unless I’m up for sex then none. It’s like an unspoken code.

GrapeLipBalm · 23/11/2025 18:07

I don't change my pjs every day so wear knickers as I change what's worn against my undercarriage every day.

inappropriateraspberry · 23/11/2025 18:16

Knickers always, can’t stand those pj seams rubbing!

TwoOneEyedTigers · 23/11/2025 18:16

I've never worn knickers under pyjamas. I think that would feel like I was sleeping with my clothes still on! Surely it would be very hot and uncomfortable, especially in the summer months.

I only wear my pyjamas when I'm bed. I take them off and get dressed as soon as I get out of bed, so they're never worn for lounging around the house.

I always buy pyjama bottoms that are at least a size bigger than my clothes size, so they're very loose and baggy. I like ones with a drawstring waist, so they stay on but have bags of room. I can't bear tight pyjamas!

I'm a very static sleeper: I barely move once I'm asleep and always wake up in the exact same position that I fell asleep in.

I tend to change my pyjamas about twice a week, but it's not to a fixed schedule, I just change them when I feel the it - usually there are two pairs in the weekly laundry but sometimes there's just one (oh, the horror! 😂).

Bowies · 23/11/2025 18:21

No and yes of course you should change pyjamas daily

TealScroller · 23/11/2025 18:23

Knickers and pyjamas, even in hot weather as I cant stand the sensation of my skin against skin, every part of my legs and arms need covering!

TheOpalReader · 23/11/2025 18:24

Definitely knickers. I'm a shuffler in bed so the seam on my pjs always ends up cutting me in half and making me sore.

yeahwhatev · 23/11/2025 18:29

I just cannot understand knickers under pyjamas - sounds kind of repressed to me! Give it some air!! Do you think men wear boxers under their pjs? No way!!!!

yeahwhatev · 23/11/2025 18:45

Been reading back and seems so many women wear knicks to bed. Im
curious - do you put on a fresh pair, so 2 pairs of knickers a day = 14 a week?
