To complain that my pizza wasn’t cut for me?

YourBluntAnt · 21/11/2025 20:13

Spent £30 with Papa John’s. Love their pizzas. Special garlic sauce is amazing!

Anyway, they didn’t cut my pizza. AIBU to have complained through the Just Eat App?

Have been told by the cocky manager to consider buying a pizza cutter

Have them semi regularly as a treat and they’re always cut into slices, as most take away are!

H thinks I’m being silly.

Obviously this isn’t a world shattering issue, of course. But interested to see if I’m unreasonably unfair here to complain

So, they get a pass? They've got better things to do than work in a pizza joint? The work is menial and beneath them?

Have you seen all the threads about the snowflake gen z that can't handle work/criticism and lack work ethic?

Total stretch on my comment.

Where did I say it’s beneath them? I didn’t,

where did I say they have better things to do? I didn’t.

what I did mean is, they’re young, and busy, and not cutting one sodding pizza isn’t the end of the world.

clear enough now?

Scissors ..only way to cut pizza

Why am I only hearing about this idea now 🤣. I have spent many years battling to cut pizza with a knife and then a pizza cutter, neither of which is very effective. I cut meat with scissors but never considered doing with pizza. 100% going to try this. Not point of thread I know!

Glube · 22/11/2025 22:48

You don’t need a pizza cutter, just use a knife. I get it’s annoying that you have to cut it yourself but it’s easy to resolve

I know - it takes 3 cuts with a breadknife to cut a pizza

Sometimes these threads seem like a parallel universe

I don't buy pizzas from.places such as Domino's and Papa John's.

I think they are very overpriced and not that great.

You can get really good quality chilled and frozen pizzas from ALDI. But you have of course to cook them yourself in the oven.

However, l think you do have a point about the pizzas being cut into slices when they are delivered. Especially, when you have forked out £30 and they can be quite large.

I would have spoken to the Shop Manager as a suggestion to pass on to the staff.

Honestly, think the shop may have just forgot. Maybe very busy.

As for Pizza Cutters, I've had 3 over the years none of which have been any good. The last one was from Sainsbury, which you'd be lucky if it could cut through a blancmange. Or go through the skin on a rice pudding for that matter

Revert back to sturdy Kitchen Scissors ✂️..

Please posters do not send me details of where l can buy the latest funky, groovy, status symbol pizza cutters from. I know are all very sophisticated but the Kitchen Scissors are ample.

Thank You.

Not sure the "clear enough now?" Comment was necessary. 🙄

OonaStubbs · 23/11/2025 02:47

It's not wrong to complain when something you've paid for isn't done properly. Yes it's a fairly minor issue. Yes it's a first world problem. But we live in the first world and pay first world prices for things. £30 for a pizza is a lot of money.

Zippedydodah · 23/11/2025 07:11

I honestly can’t believe that anyone would complain about their pizza not being cut up for them!
Talk about being privileged 🙄
I can only assume that the OP a) wants to get someone into trouble and b) is out for compensation.
What a sad world some people live in.

berightorbehappy · 23/11/2025 07:15

It’s mad enough to be annoyed enough to complain ..and madder to come on here and look for support for such a petty complaint !

YADNBU. You paid for something that did not meet your very reasonable expectations. Any company worth giving money to should have spoken to staff, found out what went wrong, take action to try and prevent it occurring again, and apologised to you with an assurance of what they had done, thanking you for your feedback. Any company taking the attitude that you should be grateful for them doing what you have paid them for, deserves to go bankrupt - and thank you for flagging it here so I know never to buy a pizza from Papa Johns, who clearly don’t respect their customers. Those saying YABU as it’s only an pizza are clearly too wealthy to care. Some people will have saved up for a treat like that at the end of the week, and deserve to have it delivered the way it is supposed to be.

HighLadyofTheNightCourt · 23/11/2025 10:34

You get a tiny bit of support from me as I often order pizza when staying in hotels and it not being cut would be an issue but I wouldn’t complain.

Whilst I agree about the attitude from PJ's it's not like she was unable to eat the pizza, she just had to cut it herself which cost her zero money to sort.

Labelledelune · 23/11/2025 12:01

How old are you? I can’t believe what i have just read.

Thepeopleversuswork · 23/11/2025 12:20

@ToeJob

Like what? Written her first novel? Conquered Everest? Learned Japanese?
I don’t know how long you think it takes to click a “How was your pizza?” link and to reply “Nice, but hadn’t been sliced before delivery”.

Anything you do is more spiritually and intellectually uplifting than whingeing on your phone to people paid minimum wage and working their guts out for doing something you could easily have done yourself if you'd bestirred yourself to walk across the kitchen.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/11/2025 12:21

Some people eat pizza with cutlery.

HetTup · 23/11/2025 12:43

I would not complain about that specific issue. If the food is delivered and hot and all at the same time that is acceptable. I have had a couple of problems with delivery/ collection of take away orders. One we ordered a delivery from a local Indian restaurant and they missed a couple of dishes as well as taking 40 mins longer to deliver than promised and then pretty rude and dismissive when we questioned this and asked for the items to be refunded. We get take away maybe once every few months and as a family treat - you don't want your food arriving late/ at different times, cold. So when they were expecting us to take a Tiger beer on the house and just be ok with it we were not.

Then more recently we ordered a take away for pick up. This is a regular every month Sunday lunch we do at in laws as MIL is not able to cater for 7 and we always used the same place. So made out order and collected but part of the order was missed it is a restaurant as well as take away but is not particularly busy (part of the issue). When we realised one of the orders were missing, I called and told the restaurant that dh would collect they said they would prepare a new order. This involves a 15 min each way drive for DH to collect so I expected the new order to be comped at least. When dh arrived and said so are we getting this part of the order refunded (turned out the previous customer had been given part of our order nice bonus for them) the manager got very defensive and started on about how small businesses are struggling. Dh who said that is hard but not really my problem (as we were regular customers for a start!). Then in a fit of pique the manager refunded the entire meal and stormed off. I later got a long self pitying email about the whole affair it was super weird and we will not go back there.

Not really helpful as whether op was in the right I would say - pick your battles - is it really an issue worth mentioning? As you never know how the take away is going to react calculate whether you want to be able to go back there! Grin

A pizza wasn't cut. I don't think we need to bring in the FBI for this one.

Scarlettpixie · 23/11/2025 12:57

A minor problem unless you were sat in a park with no utensils.

I thought everyone owned a pizza cutter (except my mum who would never eat it). Failing that though, presumably you have knives?

Susiy · 23/11/2025 13:40

I personally would not complain about a pizza not being cut.
The people working in these places are often on zero hour contracts and struggling to survive and in a hurry during rush-hour periods etc.
I don't think it's worth it or kind.
I also wouldn't do for selfish reasons - karma.
Someone might spit on your pizza next time round.

I sent a steak back to the kitchen in France once as it was bleeding on my plate and I had asked for it to be "well done". It came back black on the outside and still bleeding in the middle. I've never sent anything back to the kitchen since then. I just don't go back to the restaurant if I'm not happy with the service.
