Husband wants to move to dubai

1000 replies

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:37

My husband is a businessman in property and with the recent proposed tax changes and new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK, he’s now saying he needs to move to Dubai and operate from there.

We actually have some friends there, and his business partner is already based out there, so on paper it all sounds easy enough. His plan is to buy a second property in Dubai and move there by himself, while I stay here with the kids.

The problem is, the children are really settled one’s in high school and the other is due to start soon, so moving them just isn’t an option. He’s suggested that we (me and the kids) fly out to Dubai every school holiday to spend time with him.

The catch is, under his visa he can only be out of Dubai for 90 days a year, so he’d basically have to live there full-time.

AIBU to think this is just not going to work long-term? I can’t help but feel like this is the start of living completely separate lives.

He wants to avoid tax, while his family uses the services taxes pay for, and doesn’t really care about his family enough to see them very much. Or parent his children. Also doesn’t care about women’s rights. Or gay rights. Or worker’s rights.

I wouldn’t love a man like this. But money buys a lot of everything, including people.

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:53

To clarify children are in private school and I work in a role that in government funded.

We do enjoy going on holiday to Dubai but the move and lack of days he can come home does concern me

You’re right. In Dubai, they have no roads, police or schools. That’s why people flock there in their millions.

And how are they paid for?

To be honest, your children would benefit from moving away also. This is not an opportunity afforded to everyone. You should take while you still can. This country is going to the dogs faster than you can say canine. Get out while you can.

I would have fucking hated going to Dubai in high school.

How are they benefitting? Treatment of women in Dubai isn’t great.

Sounds to me like you don’t understand democratic socialism. I mean, Finland seems fine.

Please don’t embarrass yourself. Scandinavian countries are not socialist.

Ah yes, women’s rights. Like in this country where if you object to man calling himself a woman and forcing himself in your changing rooms, you’ll get fired from your job and get done for non-crime hate incident.

🙄🙄 hardly the same - you’re reaching here.

He's gonna pay for the shit that needs to be paid for right? Like he'll handle the bills and everything that he needs to?

Imbusytodaysorry · 09/11/2025 20:55

@Dilemma87 jeeze so he’s really leaving you ?
If be sorting finances before he disappears as if he chooses you will get no support for the kids.

Ask him out right if he is leaving you
Either way this is a rubbish deal for you and the kids .

Have you lived there?

I’m not angry about her husband per se. I’m angry about people taking the advantages of this country to get into a good position then thinking they can fuck off. And also the sort of misogyny that thinks it’s ok to do so to Dubai.

So people are not allowed to move out the UK for work and better opportunities? Because that’s exactly what I did when I went to Dubai. Smart capable people go where their skills and abilities take them.
You sound very angry and envious.

How do they do it in the UAE

Indeed. Look into it. These things don't happen magically.

Your job is funded by those taxes he doesn’t want to pay? How do you even look at him?

Telling the truth actually. But that’s not convenient, is it. Because apparently Little Britain is doing so well on women’s rights. Just ask the girls in Rochdale.

They are considerably more democratic socialist than we are.

And how are they paid for?

They are paid for by the Dubai economy which is dominated by trade,
tourism and oil.

Needness · 09/11/2025 20:57

Dubai looks like a chavvy little misogynistic hell hole to me but I’d happily move somewhere else to avoid the aggressive tax regime we’re currently under. Timings not good with the kids schooling, but in 5 years I’ll be off too.

Did you miss the part where she said it was Dubai?

Poonu · 09/11/2025 20:58

Private schools also benefit from government funding. Paid through UK tax

And slave labour, let's not forget that.

MsGinaLinetti · 09/11/2025 20:58

You really don't want to be travelling to Dubai in the summer.

We weren’t wealthy when we met, he has grown his wealth and will still have businesses here as well.

By generating wealth. Novel concept, isn’t it.
