Husband wants to move to dubai

1000 replies

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:37

My husband is a businessman in property and with the recent proposed tax changes and new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK, he’s now saying he needs to move to Dubai and operate from there.

We actually have some friends there, and his business partner is already based out there, so on paper it all sounds easy enough. His plan is to buy a second property in Dubai and move there by himself, while I stay here with the kids.

The problem is, the children are really settled one’s in high school and the other is due to start soon, so moving them just isn’t an option. He’s suggested that we (me and the kids) fly out to Dubai every school holiday to spend time with him.

The catch is, under his visa he can only be out of Dubai for 90 days a year, so he’d basically have to live there full-time.

AIBU to think this is just not going to work long-term? I can’t help but feel like this is the start of living completely separate lives.

That’s glossing over things a bit. Tax is the way a booming economy normally pays for stuff.

Hahahah

Can you explain what these "new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK" are? That seems like much more of a driving factor than the tax changes. Is he doing something now that is no longer going to be legal, or does he himself lack legal status in the country (e.g., UK citizenship or ILTR)? I don't see how Dubai can be the ONLY place he can go; even if he's a UAE citizen someone running a successful (and legal) business typically has multiple options. If he genuinely can't operate from within the UK long term, should the two of you not be having a discussion about options of where to go as a family and/or where to relocate the business?

Edited

The UK are changing rules about business being set up in Dubai and having to pay tax. If he lives here full time he’d also pay tax on the business he has set up and operating out of Dubai.

His businesses are all in property

I doubt you’ve lived in North Korea, Somalia or Afghanistan but I bet you think you wouldn’t want to live there.

Dubai has a great marketing department but the real stories leak out anyway. ‘Democracy’ really is the minimum expectation for places I would live in.

Last time I checked, no wealthy people are flocking to North Korea or Afghanistan. I wonder why. Maybe you know some.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 09/11/2025 21:04

He can spend 3 months here, you can go every Christmas and Easter, so 4 months out of 12 you’ll be a family. You could see him almost 50% of the time.

I wouldn’t move there with a daughter and I wouldn’t live there myself. Visit, possibly.

Do you trust him not to get another girl / cheat while he is there alone most of the time? Many Instagram models are moving to Dubai - could that be another reason he is fine going alone while the wife and kids stay in the UK

This is a concern as he does enjoy ‘female friends’

Why would you have hated it? All the teens that moved there in my direct experience fucking loved it. Year round sun, beaches, pools, state of the art schools and facilities that put British schools to shame, small class sizes… oh yes the kids hated it - they often complained that they found the Olympic sized swimming pool too big…

Some teens are politically and socially aware and are serious about human rights.

I take it economics isn’t your forte.

Adelle79360 · 09/11/2025 21:05

I’m not sure I understand why he’d need to go on his own? Why can’t you and the kids go?Loads of people in the construction and property industries do very well in Dubai, it’s an amazing life over there. If he goes without you all then I agree with what you’ve said in your OP - it’s the beginning of you living completely separate lives, and I don’t think you can come back from that.

@Dilemma87

You are wealthy and can make choices to leave.

WildLimePoet · 09/11/2025 21:02

With respect, you sound very naive. Do you think, people like to stay in a declining shit hole and give away their money for free so those not wanting to work can live a life of largesse.

Lol.

@WildLimePoet i think you should move to Dubai immediately. What you describe is a bit of a fantasy, but you clearly believe it, so go.

And you think abuse against women doesn’t happen everywhere? You’re either bored and looking for a bite back or you’re highly misinformed. Either way, I truly feel for you 😬

Oh yeah, when faced with facts, just deflect. Because you can’t defend what is happening in this country, no matter how much you try.

What are you banging on about? I’ve been paying the highest tax rate in the country for years, the only people I’m “propping up” are British pensioners - who paid towards their own older generation in turn. That‘a how pensions and healthcare work.

Who are ‘they’ in this scenario? The workers in Dubai? They are not doing well.

He cares about money more than he does about you, his children or his family unit.

Slightyamusedandsilly · 09/11/2025 21:07

WildLimePoet · 09/11/2025 20:43

He sounds completely rational actually. But then all those leeching off the system don’t like it when the hand that fed them has been bitten raw and they stop paying towards other people to live for free.

Hardly 'bitten raw' if he owns property here and can afford a house in Dubai as well.

Let's just put that into proportion shall we?

He sounds like a massive bellend.

Do you love him? How do YOU feel about him moving away and seeing him for the school holidays? Do you plan to give up working to accommodate this, assuming you can’t work abroad when you visit? I’m guessing you get 6wks holiday max?

Is that the best you’ve got? Look, I think you would benefit from getting off this little island and seeing a bit more of the world.

🙄🙄 hardly the same - you’re reaching here.

Your ignorance is hillarious
You know nothing
Women in Dubai are safer and happier than women in the UK
Richer too 😏

To be honest, your children would benefit from moving away also. This is not an opportunity afforded to everyone. You should take while you still can. This country is going to the dogs faster than you can say canine. Get out while you can.

You think British teenagers would be better off in Dubai than the UK? 😂

Crunchienuts · 09/11/2025 21:08

It sounds like he wants to dump his family and go live the single life in Dubai.

Good. If it weren’t for people like you, how would the largesse continue. It’s good that some people are still prepared to be fooled.

CurlewKate · 09/11/2025 21:05

Hahaha. Like fuck they are.
And it’s amazing how their strongly held political beliefs fade into the background when they see the house, pool and school.
But hey, you explain to your
kid why you chose to keep them in their shitty Uk comprehensive when they could have had cutting edge private education in state of the art facilities all in the name of politics and ethics.
