Scott Mills makes everything about himself

A guest mentions Panto/Strictly/Race Across the World
Scott Mills - when I was in Panto/on Strictly/Race Across the World…

Someone mentions a celebrity
Scott Mills - when I met said celebrity…

And many more examples throughout his show.

I don’t actually mind listening to him for the 20 minutes of school run, he’s quite witty and genuinely seems to enjoy the company of guests and colleagues. But I do think he needs lessons on how to be a good interviewer and give the guest space to talk about their own thing.

I find him so boring. His voice is boring, his content is boring etc. he’s marginally better when there are guests but when he’s on his own I can’t listen.

Katherineryan1986 · 07/11/2025 09:17

Can’t bear his show. Was glad to see the back of him in the afternoons. He is very dull and very me me me. There are far better DJ’s out there I imagine.

switchoffplease · 07/11/2025 09:19

It’s such a shame because I really enjoyed listening to Zoe Ball in the mornings.

I think he’s cracking and I enjoy listening. Never noticed what you mention, but it’s not exactly question time is it….

Just turn over the channel.

Thanks for the advice.
I bet if you start listening out for it, you will notice it within 10 minutes.

He's awful. But so are most BBC presenters. I think Lewis Capaldi would wipe the floor with the lot of them. He should have his own talk show.

I hope not as I already find my morning commute tedious enough! But I find 4 a bit of a downer in the mornings.

I didn’t mean it as advice just meant it wasn’t worth vexing over. 🙂

Now that would be a show!

I think it would be in the national interest. The country needs it. Lewis, if you're reading this . . .

YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU!

Some people seem to think this is how conversations go:
A: mentions bananas
B: when I last ate a banana....[goes on for 5 mins]
A: my banana was a little
B cuts in: black, yeah Ive had that too, I really hate it.

They rarely ask the other person questions, unless it is to one up them, or as a way of talking more about their own experiences. It's exhausting constantly being interupted and I find I end up not talking as much because there's not point, as you wont get to finish what you're saying anyway

Myblueclematis · 07/11/2025 09:40

I only started to listen to Radio 2 in the afternoon when Trevor Nelson took over, I prefer the music he plays, didn't really take to Scott in the afternoon, like others I found him rather boring to listen to and don't switch on the radio until 9.30 am when Vernon takes over as I quite like his show.

Although I wish Vern wouldn't be quite so shouty at times ... 🙄

That’s such an accurate representation. Exhausting indeed. I just wish someone would say to him, let your guests speak about their experiences. He has some really big and interesting names on his show, and yet somehow it is still just the Scott Mills show.
Enough about me, what do you think about me? 😂

Scot Mills may not be perfect but he is so much better than the fake, over-enthusiastic breathlessness of Zoe Ball.

I like how Scot is genuinely enjoying doing the early morning slot. Didn't get that impression from Zoe. Scot also has a much wider range of chat and is upbeat.

switchoffplease · 07/11/2025 11:16

Zoe was clearly struggling at the end, but she was much better at interviewing guests and seemed to have a genuine interest in every around her including the listeners. Scott is upbeat about himself 😂😂😂 I agree he does bring a good level of energy to the show

OP posts:
JipJup · 07/11/2025 11:20

Ditto Richard Madeley.

He spoils whatever show he's on by turning everything into a little anecdote about himself or his family.

Annoying as fuck and very rude if he's interviewing someone and taking up their allotted time slot.

ramonaquimby · 07/11/2025 11:24

But most of the radio shows are like this. Music is a 2nd after the inane banter between the all the people crammed into the studio seeing who can laugh the loudest ir react to things in the faux ways they do. I mostly listen to podcasts or Spotify these days when I'm in the car

Maybe I am seeing Scott through rose-tinted spectacles because I was pleased when Zoe left. She was clearly struggling and you could sense that.

Yes, Scott is very upbeat about himself!! 😂He will probably start to annoy me as much as Zoe did now that you have pointed out how everything revolves around him.

Sometimes I try to listen to Chris Evans on Virgin for a change but he is the WORST at talking about himself. Urgh!

switchoffplease · 07/11/2025 11:27

Sorry for ruining it for those who hadn’t noticed….😬

Richard Madely has made a career out of it. And that’s on breakfast tv as well where some of the subjects aren’t fluffy.

maddiemookins16mum · 07/11/2025 11:31

He’s dreadful, I long for the day when Sarah Cox is finally given the breakfast show.

Kreepture · 07/11/2025 11:34

i can't stand him, hated him on radio 1, and loathe him even more now. We love Vernons show at 9.30, so the few minutes he's chatting during handover annoy me.. just go, not your turn any more!!

kiwiane · 07/11/2025 11:34

He is dull and this showed during RATW; there must be a real dearth of talent at the BBC.

ColinOfficeTrolley · 07/11/2025 11:34

Used to love radio 2. Zoe followed by ken Bruce. They've been replaced by 2 inane idiots.

Had to stop listening

suki1964 · 07/11/2025 11:42

I have to admit Im not a fan of Scot Mills, however hes better in. the morning then he was in the afternoons and a hell of a lot better then Zoe

I so dont want Sara Cox to be given the breakfast show, it kills me when she covers for him - because I love her Tea Time Show and miss her when she's not on

I listen to Chris Evans now. His show is so full of energy - and it's pretty intelligent whilst being full of fun . He really gets the best from his guests

This!

He is so vanilla and boring and I’ve always thought this when I had the misfortune to be listening to him since my 30s or so when he was on R1! He literally has no personality and there’s no playful, witty or even endearingly silly banter with anyone who rings in. It’s a joy when Sarah Cox covers for him - she’s just such a naturally fun and upbeat person and transforms the show with just her own energy alone - no sidekicks needed!
