Scott Mills makes everything about himself

A guest mentions Panto/Strictly/Race Across the World
Scott Mills - when I was in Panto/on Strictly/Race Across the World…

Someone mentions a celebrity
Scott Mills - when I met said celebrity…

And many more examples throughout his show.

I don’t actually mind listening to him for the 20 minutes of school run, he’s quite witty and genuinely seems to enjoy the company of guests and colleagues. But I do think he needs lessons on how to be a good interviewer and give the guest space to talk about their own thing.

Really missing Zoe in the mornings. I listen to Chris Evan’s in the morning now too as Scott’s show is far too depressing to listen to on the way to work. He loves bigging himself up. Final straw for me was his absolute delight that Trevor Nelson got voted off the Weakest Link first. He played a jingle about it and you could hear the glee in his voice, not a nice trait.

I don’t mind Chris talking about his family a lot, it’s interesting and the positivity/mindset stuff puts me in the right frame of mind for work. It makes me feel good in the mornings which is exactly what I need from a breakfast show.

Absolutely love Sara Cox on the way home, she’s probably my favourite. She doesn’t take herself to seriously, is fun but also shows real compassion towards listeners who call in.

RamsaySnowsSausage · 13/11/2025 23:34

I loved Scott on R1 but I do somehow get the feeling he thinks R2 was a demotion (probably more money and more listeners but a direct acknowledgement of ageing). So he has embraced the job but also feels a bit too good for it and acts accordingly.

To be fair, though, my ego and sense of self importance would be tucked if I knew millions were listening to my ramblings every morning!

VioletMountainHare · 13/11/2025 23:35

I forgot about Mark Goodier. He is great when he covers the breakfast slot. Wish they’d give it to him permanently!

mumofoneAloneandwell · 13/11/2025 13:43

Omg 😄😄

He seems so awkward and dull, I cant imagine that tbh

Who was that other guy who would whack his willy around on people? Hes still working i think

And David Williams

I think the poster who said about someone exposing themself was referring to Chris Evans, not Scott Mills. CE had a bit of a reputation for it.

Scott Mills has definitely had some voice coaching since moving to the breakfast slot, he's not anywhere near as monotonous as he was in the afternoon slot. He's still really self absorbed and annoying though. I can't imagine how he lasted on R1 at all.

There were reports about 10-15 years ago about him exposing himself everywhere when he used to work on his earlier shows in the 90's. Not much seemed to come of it but it made the papers certainly and a lot of people had complained.

And recording people in the loo and playing the recordings back in staff meetings.
I do like Chris' public persona, but I suspect there's a lot more we don't know about him behind the scenes that will come out one day.
He persued Billie when she was a child, and although that turned out to be a short but apparently quite happy marriage and they're still friends, I do still think that he groomed her.

As far as Radio 2 DJs go, Scott I find fairly inoffensive, but Paddy McGuiness I find unbearable. He was in for Vernon on Wednesday and when he was talkung about Sara Cox's absolutely brilliant challenge he kept on saying "when I did my challenge...xyz". I just find him unfunny, self-centred, and self-congratulatory.

I agree with others -Liza Tarbuck is wonderful, as we're Graeme Norton and Claudia Winkelmam when they had weekend slots.

Occasionally we catch a bit of Elaine Paige, she's another self-obsessive -"it's EPOS..."🙄 . And what the hell is that forced Yogi Bear laugh? Grating, performative lovey.

And Steve Wright hung into that job for far too long. What kind of adult wants to listen to a aged DJ make up stupid characters? I just tuck his audience must have been the low end of the gene pool!

Okiedokie123 · 14/11/2025 00:49

I can’t bear Scott Mills. Elaine Page ditto. And Steve Wright, Romesh. Also Vernon Kay and Dermot O’Leary (I like both V and D but not their radio shows).

I love Sara Cox, Jo Whiley, Elly Taylor (sits in for Sara) but my absolute favourite is Lisa Tarbuck. I like Fearne Cotton too.
I miss Paul O’Grady and Terry Wogan a lot. And Johnny Walker.

the80sweregreat · 14/11/2025 04:25

I wish I listened to Jo Wiley more as she plays music I like and is very likeable. She is very knowledgeable around about music, a proper DJ , not just a presenter.
Plus she is just so cool and not aged a day !

I think he now does a permanent slot for pick of the pops. Think Sunday

Oh I have just come back to this thread to see all the comments! I had to laugh when I saw this on Instagram (I’ve been following Sara Cox’s challenge so of course he popped up…) it’s Scott Mills pushing a trolley with his face on…. His comment is “I promise it was the only trolley left” Of course it was Scott.🙄

🙈🙈

NestEmptying · 14/11/2025 08:15

I've gone to Chris Moyles on Radio X. He's very similar to when he was on Radio 1, years ago. And I prefer the music choices on there.
Where/when is Liza Tarbuck on - I love her. I would.listen to her all day.

Can't stand Gary Davis, i HATE it when he stands in for Vernon.. i did enjoy Paddy doing it yesterday, rather he was the stand-in for Vern than Gary.

I like Sara, Zoe, Vern & Paddy, i can tolerate Trevor and Romesh occasionally.

I used to listen to Radio 1 a LOT and am only a recent listener to Radio 2, purely because i prefer the music selection lately, so i'm liking the younger DJs, couldn't stand steve wright and co.. far too old and boring.

I don't mind Gary standing in for Vern BUT if he says that blasted Deja Voooooooooooooo once during the show, it's said multiple times.

It really makes me want to scream it's so annoying! 😱

Actually, I think it's Deja Wooooooooooo!! Still bloody irritating.

Cleikumstovies · 14/11/2025 08:31

Is he the one who worships Bolton? If your not from the north of England your not a "real" person. If your not a labourer your not doing a "proper"job. Who will gush over a plasterer from Preston, but an architect from Andover - southern effete.

i'm quietly trying to just enjoy the music and the updates on sara this morning, but yes, that and the 'oooh gary davis' make my eye twitch.

I love him on pick of the pops, absolutely perfect. I like him covering in the daytime too but he's felt a poor fit covering for DJ Spoony this week. They probably should have given him the drive time show instead (though Spoony is good on drive time, and sounds very excited about getting to do all request friday).

I didn't like Spoony on R1 but do enjoy him on R2

Everytime I hear Paddy McGuiness I think of Peter Kay doing his bit about the thick table and note that he was being quite generous about Paddy's IQ. The man is an absolute idiot.

madaboutpurple · 14/11/2025 12:19

I remember at one time radio 1 DJs were told not to go on and on about their lives. Maybe R2 DJs need to be told they are not to mention themselves. The question needs asking what would Scott talk about instead. Maybe this could be the next CIN challenge. They could make a fortune for charities.

madaboutpurple · 14/11/2025 12:37

I seem to remember Chris Evans was drinking heavily when he was with Billy Piper and at one time he didn't turn up for his show as was drunk. I don't know what the boss of R2 said but he never did that again.

Omg yes!!! Or they have to put a pound in a pot every time they mention themselves!!! Even yesterday after Sara’s challenge he had to mention how, as her friend, it was hard to watch some of it. Not as hard as actually doing it Scott!

Thank you for this. I've not listened since Scott 'ego' Mills took over.

Love you, bye! Utter cobblers.
His speach when he got the job mentioned he'd always wanted the gig, I bet he did!
I'm an early riser so I'm so disappointed.

There's a local man who is a friend of a friend and they call him' Wheni '. Every story he's been there.

Can’t bear his show. Was glad to see the back of him in the afternoons. He is very dull and very me me me. There are far better DJ’s out there I imagine.

Totally agree. So bland and boring. I can't think why he was given such a prestigious show.

Chris and his drinking is legendary ( if you are my age )

He would be pissed most days, his and five bellies would be live on radio and even just walk out of a show

But that was the 90's

He went to Virgin, bought and sold it, went back to R2 breakfast

Hes now back to Virgin and a much more humble man

I love his show. Yes he talks about his family, he talks about his sobriety , he talks about his running and he talks about his faith - but its not in an "I am, I do , I say' way, hes just gabbing on, man to audience

I love that he bigs up ordinary people - gives away free ads to new businesses, and knows guests inside and out, If someone is on promoting a book or a film - hes read it or seen it

His show is so full of life and positivity , Im so glad I work where I can pick it up because the show makes me feel so good about myself

And Tarbuck on a Saturday night is like a balm on wounds, Who can not love her show? Im sat at her kitchen table and we are enjoying a wee glass and just talking, and seeing where the chat take us

ComedyGuns · 16/11/2025 00:09

He’s just reptilian…
