Amazon delivery driver in pub on duty.

More a What would you do than an AIBU.

Currently awaiting an Amazon delivery. It’s important as I need it for my business and need it today so products can be made to send out tomorrow. So I’m anxious for it to arrive.
I have been following the tracking of the van. I’m the next delivery and have been for over 35minutes. The van has not moved in that time and is in a car park outside a pub a couple of miles away. The pub is down a lane with no other properties or buildings down there and the tracking is showing it in the car park.

I’m not going to lie I’m pissed off because I need my parcel urgently and I’m waiting for a delivery man to finish his drink in the pub and actually bother to deliver it.
My question is would you report them to Amazon? I have screenshots of the tracking.

Op is definitely going to update later saying he turned up stinking of alcohol.

JudgeBread · 06/11/2025 20:23

Maybe his van's broken down? Maybe he's having a kip in the back, we had a little polish lad did that once because he was working for Evri and Amazon and was on something like his 16th 12 hour day in a row.

Maybe he's doing it to piss you personally off. He's heard your business relies on him being on time so he's decided to fuck with you specifically just for the shits.

(Based on how harshly we used to get penalised for late deliveries I'd bet money that whatever he's doing is unavoidable, if you drive for Amazon for a living I assure you you can't afford to have your wages docked)

Wow! Thanks for the feedback! Driver is still at the pub. It’s now been 1hr and 29 minutes since we first looked at the tracking.
I take drink driving extremely seriously and any member of staff here would be in trouble if they were caught at the pub on a break. Incidentally we are now 2hrs outside the delivery window which ended at 6:15.

He's sat in the pub nursing a diet coke showing all the other patrons this post on Mumsnet having a right laugh

Grilledxribs · 06/11/2025 20:24

Hello hyacinth bucket sorry i mean bouquet.

Your Amazon tracking gives you the exact location of the driver? Here in the US it will say that it's however many stops away, and the little map shows the general location, but not close enough to see where the truck actually is. B

Yes, I can see where they are on a map (once tracking has started).
One time, my delivery was one stop away... but the driver never came and drove off away from my house. I watched in real time as he drove 2 miles away, probably realised he left my delivery out, and shoot back down the road.
It made me smile.

Cece92 · 06/11/2025 20:24

Maybe his van has broken down?? Also they do take breaks and have to take a break after X amount of driving. So maybe he’s parked up having his rest time.

catin8oot5 · 06/11/2025 20:25

ah man. Mumsnet never gets old.

Or maybe he is not the driver op is waiting for more than one van out there.

Or if he is anything like the people who deliver my Amazon parcels... they drop and run because they are so rushed.
I hate the radio ad about Amazon... goes on about the drivers gushing over someone they regularly deliver to having a new baby. All drivers I have seen literally sprint between jobs when they have multiple drops in the same road.

Breadcat24 · 06/11/2025 20:28

under the UK employment laws the driver is entitled to breaks

RedRiverShore5 · 06/11/2025 20:29

As PP says, the van may have broken down, he may have had an unforeseen circumstance. You may get the dreaded sorry we are unable to deliver your package but you should get it within 2 days.

Also true

Randomlygeneratedname · 06/11/2025 20:29

You are aware that tracking isn't fail proof, right? They probably had a delivery there and are well away but the tracking has failed. I worked in logistics for a long time, the tracking is good when it works but if out of signal it can show you all sorts of weird and wonderful things. I once had a driver 'stuck' in the middle of a motorway for hours. He was still apparently there whilst unloading the trailer outside my window.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/11/2025 20:31

God you sound like an asshole. 🙄
It's really none of your business to try and manage the delivery. You don't have any idea what's going on.

Maybe a legitimate lunch break?
Also, have you not seen the many news stories about drivers not getting breaks and pissing in bottles in their vans?
But, I digress. See my initial statement.

Maybe they’ve broken down. Are you waiting to go out? Nip over to the pub and collect your parcel yourself?

Oh our local amazon delivery lady is amazing. She always puts things inside my back gate if we are out (most leave by the bins). She also helped me carry a couple of large boxes into my garden in the dark the other night as I didn't want the kids seeing. I told her to leave them and I would do it but she insisted. I'm going to give her some chocolates at Christmas.

Throwntothewolves · 06/11/2025 20:33

Your main concern is getting your delivery, not whether the driver is drinking alcohol.

Neemie · 06/11/2025 20:35

I thought they just had to deliver by the time stated and other than that it was entirely up to them what they did. Maybe his mum owns the pub.

RubyMentor · 06/11/2025 20:35

sosorryimnotsorry · 06/11/2025 19:35

He is at a well known drinkers pub. It isn’t the type of place you go for a break.

He could be sat in his van eating sandwiches

Viviennemary · 06/11/2025 20:36

What an impatient entitled busy body you sound. I dont think there are such things as Amazon friendly pubs. Yet

You need to watch Sorry We Missed You (Ken Loach). Maybe you'll realise what a tough, shitty job it is to be an Amazon (or other courier) driver.

100% even though I bet her parcel was delivered within 5 minutes of op. Shes gotta prove she's right and everyone else is wrong

Bundleflower · 06/11/2025 20:40

Good god.
Also, if this is so time critical, perhaps you should have thought ahead and ordered a day earlier?
Trying to punch down on the driver for checks notes taking a break is fucking ludicrous.

Grilledxribs · 06/11/2025 20:40

Op come back and up-date us.
Wait.
Bet she wont.
She will have now gone for a name change and hid the thread shame really it was getting fun.
