Mounjaro jabs! WWYD

MangoRose · 01/11/2025 20:27

I have just started mounjaro jabs and haven't told anyone at all. This may be a really stupid question but would you tell people or just say eating less/exercise. I have recently started at the gym after a long break so it wouldnt be unbelievable I guess.

It feels really deceitful, but then again its no ones business and they shouldn't really ask (IMO).

Why wouldn’t you tell people if they ask. It’s nothing to be embarrassed by. I don’t hide that I go to the gym. Are you worried they’ll see it as “cheating”? Because if they do it’s bollocks.

TheChosenTwo · 01/11/2025 20:33

I’ve been on them a year and not told anyone. No one has been rude enough to ask how I’ve lost weight, a few people have (also rudely imo!) commented on my weight loss.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/11/2025 20:34

This is your private medical information 🙏
do whatever YOU want

Thank you. I am quite open about upping my exercise recently but I was really struggling with motivation with food which has frustrated me as I haven't been seeing the results I was looking for, so I am hoping mounjaro will help me with this.

As far as I’m concerned weight loss injections are the hardest way to lose weight. You’ve probably already tried everything else and are having to inject yourself and possibly put up with side effects. You shouldn’t feel you need to mislead anyone you have every right to be proud of taking such a positive step to be healthier !

I don't think I'd mind people commenting on my weightloss if they are genuinely being supportive but I always feel I have to explain myself, I am awful at taking any compliments and always over compensate by explain too much about whatever it is!

I have told anyone and everyone except for my mother. She and I have a very difficult relationship about my weight.

With everyone else I have been honest and said I needed a helping hand to get started. Am now 3 stone down with another 1.5 to go.

I also was honest with the gym and gp as I wanted their support.

Good luck it has been brilliant support to me, although it has been difficult at times with random digestive upsets.

TequilaNights · 01/11/2025 20:40

I'm very open about taking the jab, I have friends that keep it to themselves, and day they are watching what they eat and exercising.

Its entirely up to you, but also nothing to be ashamed about.

I did it for me, not anyone else, and my doctors are aware too.

Good luck

Wow 3 stone is amazing!

I just knew i needed some help, I am 46 and finding it really hard so it possibly is a bit of hormones too, then feel down about it which makes me worse, vicious circle I guess.

I've lost 6 stone, plateau for a bit and started to lose again, feel great for it.

Good luck

curious79 · 01/11/2025 20:42

People are so judgemental around this. This is no one’s business but your own. What is more, you might react badly to the jabs as I did, and then have to come off them and then you’ll have to field a whole load more questions.

FrenchBunionSoup · 01/11/2025 20:42

I haven't told anyone, but I've yo-yo'ed between top end of normal weight and lower end of obese BMI most of my adult life, and this time I have just gone down to an almost normal BMI (currently 25.1) and am just staying there-ish. I might lose a few more pounds. At some point someone might realise I am not regaining but nobody has mentioned it so far.

If you lose a lot of weight now anyone with any sense will suspect it's the jabs.

HansHolbein · 01/11/2025 20:44

You should ask for this to be moved to the WLI topic, so that you can get advice from people that actually use them.

This will just descend into fatty bashing bollocks as per.

I think people now just assume people are on the jabs if they lose a decent amount of weight anyway so potentially it won't make a difference if I didnt say anything.

You are all right though, if anyone tells me they are on them I always think how brilliant it is they have done that, I am way too hard on myself!

TheZanyZebra · 01/11/2025 20:46

why would that even come into the conversation?

You've lost weight, you look great!
Thank you.

done. No need to go in details is it.

So far its been a really supportive thread so hopefully it'll stay that way. Surely no one can bash anyone making an effort to lose weight.

My only issue with it is that its not accessible to everyone due to the cost and so hard to get on the NHS.

SilenceInside · 01/11/2025 20:50

People are not likely to notice until you’ve lost significant weight, or unless you regularly eat around them and are noticeably eating less. So it’s not something I’d worry about for a while yet.

It’s your personal medical information so you don’t owe anyone the information even if they ask you. It’s not something I want to discuss with people, but unfortunately (!) I have lost half my body weight and people seem to want to talk about it. So I tell them eating less and exercising more, and then start talking about running in detail until they stop asking questions! Eating less and exercising more is what I have been doing, just with the support of Mounjaro.

MangoRose · 01/11/2025 20:51

@TequilaNights 6 stone is incredible, you must be so happy!!

@FrenchBunionSoup thats great you are managing to maintain, I suspect that is always the hardest part.

@TheZanyZebra I need to do that really I guess, I am such a worrier, its ridiculous. I think I get embarrassed when people give me any sort of compliment so just talk too much 😂

OP posts:
BeTealRaven · 01/11/2025 20:56

I've lost 7.5 stone on mounjaro and it's no ones business but mine. I feel amazing. My partner is now on it also. It's changed our lives. But anyone who thinks it's easy is so wrong. Some people may be lucky and the weight fall off with no effort but others have side effects and lose very slowly like me. Good luck and whether you tell people or not is entirely up to you but some will judge you for it.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 01/11/2025 20:59

I’m very open about being on them. I work out, I eat sensibly, I’m still fat. I’m not ill, I’m not embarrassed, it’s not a dirty secret. The fact is you still have to eat less than you burn off! It’s just that you aren’t miserable and hungry whilst you do it, which some people resent.

NikkiPotnick · 01/11/2025 20:59

It's such a personal call. Depends on your own relationships and feelings.

For me, I have a lot of close relationships with other women where we do ask each other things like this, talk a lot about personal health related matters. So it didn't offend me when people started asking once the loss became visible. I decided I would not volunteer the information about WLIs until asked directly, but also wouldn't lie. So I explain that I had health reasons for weight loss, then if they ask how, I say so. But that's within the range of normal behaviour for me. If you're more private it might not work.

Zempy · 01/11/2025 21:00

I have lost five stone this year on MJ.

I tell everyone!

MeridaBrave · 01/11/2025 21:00

So, I’ve lost 2 stone and loads of people have asked how I did it. I said I cut the rubbish, ate loads of protein and veg (all true) and did more exercise (heavy weight lifting and running (also true). I look muscular / ripped now.

I was asked direct by (mostly personal trainers in the gym) and i said no. But I don’t had the normal profile of someone who lost weight using jabs.

BlueScrunchies · 01/11/2025 21:03

I’m open about it. Had 3st to lose, 2 stone down now, so not far to go! I feel so much better for it. I would say not until losing 2 stone did people really start to notice so you might get away with any questions for a bit anyway.

Ahfiddlesticks · 01/11/2025 21:12

I was on them for 2 years and only DH knew. It did take me a ridiculous amount of time to lose weight though so it wasn't so obvious with me, and I started before they were well known so it wasn't the automatic assumption it is now.

DH was taking them more recently and he just told everyone and anyone - managed to change a few people minds about them as well.
