Mounjaro jabs! WWYD

MangoRose · 01/11/2025 20:27

I have just started mounjaro jabs and haven't told anyone at all. This may be a really stupid question but would you tell people or just say eating less/exercise. I have recently started at the gym after a long break so it wouldnt be unbelievable I guess.

It feels really deceitful, but then again its no ones business and they shouldn't really ask (IMO).

I just think, knowing how hard it is to lose weight the traditional way, that it’s deceitful and wrong to try and pretend you’ve suddenly got a huge amount of willpower. These drugs are incredible things that do something amazing, but you’re wrong if you pretend they’re not a huge helping force

I don't think it's deceitful and wrong! Everyone knows they're there if you want help losing weight - and lots of people lose weight the old fashioned way too.

I don't understand why people have such a problem with these jabs, when they don't have a problem with any other medication for health issues. Obesity is a health issue and the jabs are an effective treatment

GloryDias · 02/11/2025 00:18

I've lost three stones and if people have asked I just tell them 'drugs!' 😁

But loads of people do lose weight with diet and exercise, its not completely out of the ordinary. How do you know that those people havent just stuck to a diet? Not everyone losing weight will be on them I guess.

I may feel comfortable sharing about it at some stage. I just don't know yet.

Because of the explosion of wli in the past year or so. The epidemic of people losing substantial amounts of weight relatively quickly is new and I promise you, the assumption is people are using wli. Fine not to disclose but don’t think people aren’t making assumptions - which to me is a bit cringe. Each to their own though. When I tell people they seem relieved they can ask questions and talk about it and not pretend with me that it’s diet and exercise. They all say they assumed that was it anyway.

Cartot · 02/11/2025 07:57

In fairness, saying you lost weight from eating less isn’t a lie, is it?

Mounjaro doesn’t melt fat, it makes you want to eat less.

If eating less “didn’t work”, then Mounjaro wouldn’t either.

If people are “eating less” and it’s not working then they’re probably not actually eating less.

BeTealRaven · 02/11/2025 07:57

I would have told people but when I started it wasn't as mainstream. Also I don't like being discussed and I've heard others being discussed. I probably now am discussed that I'm on them and have not told people. You can't win. The main reason for me though was I didn't want my parents and dg family to ever find out. So I have to live the lie. But as I said before it really is no one else's business. Why does everyone think they have a right to discuss your weight. If I had a beard and suddenly didn't would everyone ask me if I'd shaved or waxed it? I doubt it.

MangoRose · 02/11/2025 08:26

@CantBreathe90 well done for reaching your target! I am hoping I will be there again!

There is no reason to feel ashamed at all so you are right, the reason I feel that way is that I've always been a slim/fit person till my 40s and could have just lost half a stone and been back to normal and for some reason I just mentally have not been able to do that so then added on a few more half stones!

I think its jealousy a lot of the time why people are acting all judgemental.

They know, regardless of what you choose to tell them.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 02/11/2025 08:54

I tell everyone, I’m not embarrassed and I couldn’t care less what other people think. Plus I’ve lost 11.5 stone after being morbidly obese my entire life and trying every diet known to man, so I think it’d be pretty obvious I’m using WLI to anyone who knows me anyway!

they don’t in every case no….they think they know, but they don’t

GiddyDog · 02/11/2025 09:39

@Anonymous07200408 I've lost weight without using them and yes people make assumptions, but they're wrong. So you would assume I'm being 'cringe' when in fact you're being presumptuous.

I've no skin in the game on people who do use injections, it's just not the method I chose, but I do find the judgement works both ways and people can be sneery when asked how I've lost weight and I say gym and diet, because they're assuming they 'know' I'm lying.

People will know. So many people I know are on them. I am amazed at the people who state that they are now losing weight from ‘healthy eating and exercise’ yet haven’t been able to for ten years. Just be honest

Now, that can be really irritating.

No, I am not taking prescription medication to assist. If I were, I might confirm it to somebody who asked politely - probably not to you, though, if your attitude as conveyed here is similar to how you are in person.

MangoRose · 02/11/2025 12:07

lap90 · 02/11/2025 08:38

I dont believe that TBH. I know lots of people who have lost weight without jabs, as the jabs weren't available then. There must be loads of people who arent on them and still lose weight. No one knows, they just assume. I lost 8lb in 3 weeks a few months ago by counting calories and exercising, currently my issue is motivation to keep it off and I'd put it back on after a holiday then telling myself I'll get back on it tomorrow! I really dont think anyone thought I was on the jabs after those few weeks.

I had no idea my colleague was till they said, they were big before and have lost it at a really healthy rate. They have many stones to lose so it wouldnt be far fetched to think they were cutting back and exercising more, its the latter part I think that then people suspect more.

I felt the same as you and I haven't told anyone except people in my immediate family. I ultimately decided it's not their business. People at work etc can see I've made diet and exercise changes and frankly if they asked anything further then they're overstepping.

Only a couple of people have mentioned anything about my weight loss, I believe it's obvious at this stage as I've lost over four stone but I'm still overweight and losing it very slowly now. The person who insinuated people are somehow pretending they're losing it from changing their lifestyle is so far off the mark. Whether people know I'm taking weight loss injections or not, they can see with their own two eyes in a daily basis that I have changed my lifestyle. But I actually don't want to discuss it with people AT ALL. I'm not just my weight.

usedtobeaylis · 02/11/2025 15:42

themerchentofvenus · 01/11/2025 22:21

I don't see the point of lying unless you're embarrassed?

The people who are making it embarrassing are playing on the often lifelong or at least long term insecurities obese people have been shouldering as a result of social judgement. Don't perpetuate that by making that embarrassment as much of a moral failing as obesity itself. Just stop. Nobody should be asking anyone how they lost weight in the first place just as nobody should be asking how they gained it. There's so much rudeness around obesity and none of it comes from the obese people.

SoEasyToFall · 01/11/2025 22:33

Do you take offence to everything that’s said that disagrees with you?

I think if someone says to you “I’m really struggling with my weight, how have you lost yours?” and you turn around and say “it’s just diet and exercise!”, knowing full well you’re using a medication that helps you be in a calorie deficit, that’s wrong and deceitful. Why would you not just say “I’m using Mounjaro”? It’s not as if it’s something to be ashamed of?

That isn't how the conversations go though is it, you've just made it up to justify being rude.

Tocontinu · 02/11/2025 16:22

I think is very is obvious when people loose so much weight in such a short period of time; and people look different, not necessarily healthier in my opinion. I would be concerned about side effects; but it is your body.

Ive lost a stone and 4lbs in 3 months, perfectly reasonable amount to lose through diet and exercise alone

so no, in some cases its not obvious at all

People who are very overweight can easily lose a stone in a month, I was only just over 2 stone over my goal weight (which was less than a stone over BMI of 25) and lost 30lb in 17 weeks. That was just diet, no exercise.

Oh you’d probably think I look awful after losing 7 stone on mounjaro - particularly my face. I wouldn’t care though because my main aim was to have a healthier body, which I absolutely now have.
