Repulsive perfumes

I like natural fragrances, like the scent of lavender, some essential oils etc. But for some reason artificial scents like in washing powder and perfumes make me want to gag. They really unsettle me. What's that all about?

YABU - I smell gorgeous when I put three cups of fabric softener in the machine, and adorn myself with a bath of duty-free spoils.

YANBU - People overdo fragrances, they are tacky and make me want to gag too.

I dislike them all ( except Beautiful I used to love it ) too plus

I also like fabric softener, but I get the white baby one. So a gentle clean scent rather than a full on floral fest.

I cannot stand the smell of washing powder. It triggers my asthma. When serving customers and saw that box (box smells) I had to draw a deep breath and scan it.

Original Fairy stinks. It’s awful. I can’t understand why people think it smells great.

Vast majority of Christmasy home fragrances- diffuser, plug in, air fresheners etc are horrible. Also real Xmas trees in homes trigger asthma too. I’m ok when going to churches for their Christmas trees festivals as the high ceilings, bigger room and doors are being constantly opened and closed.

Luckily I only use sensitive fabric conditioner so at least that doesn't stink. My husband bought a huge 5l bottle of the yellow comfort once and I hated it!

I love perfume and can honestly say I’ve never been offended by anyone wearing it. There’s nothing nicer than walking past someone who smells lovely! Even if it’s not a scent I’d wear, I still quite like it. Certain perfumes elicit really strong emotions and transport me to specific moments throughout my life - almost like little time travelling potions.

Unfortunately, there are lots of scents which just don’t work on me at all and have caused migraines and nausea. A pp’s description of Angel as rotting flowers and bin juice is very accurate but I’d also add in chemical waste. Armani Diamonds is almost exactly the same but much more crude and heavier on the chemical waste. I’ve never received so many compliments as I did the one time I wore Armani Si which was baffling because to me it smelled like a heady mix of wine breath, BO and dirt.

I rarely wear any kind of perfume or “smells”. I like quite gentle ones, usually a pretty floral, or a light refreshing one. Absolutely hate anything heavy, and some of them genuinely smell repulsive and j can’t work out how they even sell them.

I don’t mind a bit of washing detergent smell as clothes can smell a bit weird otherwise. I’m definitely not one of those people whose clothes you can smell from being stood next to, I don’t actually know what people do to even achieve that 🤣 I’m lucky if you can even smell anything on them at all by the time they’re dry!

I like laundry scents, but cannot stand perfume or aftershave smells. I work somewhere where we have to lend out weather proof gear to customers and they often come back stinking of someone's gagworthy perfume. And covered in makeup too.

I've always hated the smell of any kind of "spray" and it's getting worse as I get older.

Bold is so perfumed it makes me gag. if i buy Vinted clothes and it has been washed in that it goes straight out of the packing into the washing machine it is so perfumed gives me a rash too

Giorgio of Beverley Hills. Everyone stank of this in 1980s. Vile stuff and I remember my mum throwing blouses away because she couldn’t get rid of the smell even after washing.

All strong perfumes... but Fahrenheit in particular 🤮🤢🤮🤢🤮

I'm a perfume lover but there are still a few I don't like. I can't bear Chanel no 5. I shared a room at boarding school with an incredibly slovenly girl who loved it. She was given a bottle of no 5 elixyr which she brought to school and promptly spilt over our room. It took days to go away and made me quite ill.

I also dislike strong laundry scents and anything with lily of the valley gives me an immediate headache. I remember being in year 5 and having Friday afternoon PE after a senior class. One of them had a lily of the valley body spray/ eau de toilette thing. The changing room used to reek of it and that plus the harsh strip lights would sometimes make me extreme poorly. I was grateful when her body spray ran out!

1000% agree. Poison and Alien as fragrances just make me want to 🤢.

Also, fabric conditions/scent beads are strictly limited to Fairy brand only and only used if it’s soemthing like bedding/towels that will be stored for a bit before being put out again for use. I just want my washing to smell like it was line dried, nothing else…

Sorry, but Chanel no5 - our pup used to come back from the groomers smelling of some kind of doggy dupe of it, my youngest made the connection (when I had a moment and bought some Chanel for myself) she simply said to me.. "You smell just like Sweep, after his fur cut" 😐

Synthetic perfumes are, among other things, endocrine disruptors and are especially harmful to babies and young children. No one should wear perfumes, period, especially around infants, babies and young children. The perfume industry is a trillion dollars per year it is hard to live without them and to avoid them.
