National Trust & tampons

NT have made free tampons available in the gents' toilets in a castle in the Lake District. Not unisex toilets, but actual gents.

Not just any tampons, but vegan tampons (WTF are they?).
And they're also available in the ladies.

YABU They are demonstrating what a kind, caring organisation they are, & covering their arses.

YANBU They are bonkers, tossers... add your own words.

Also most transmen, if not all, are on testosterone. So no periods.

Some can still have irregular bleeds imo.

Happyjoe · 10/10/2025 23:48

HostaCentral · 10/10/2025 23:34

Also, FYI, tampons sold in the UK are not tested on animals, so they could use any old tampons, and not waste extra money on funky vegan branded jobs.

Vegan and not tested on animals isn't always the same thing.
Can buy vegan shampoo by some of the major brands but the brand tests on animals.

My thoughts?

Brilliant that a trans man will have access to sanitary protection if they’re caught short.

What are you hoping to achieve from this thread op? 🙄

God, I’m so sick of this made up crap.

Post-SC ruling, it should be abundantly clear to all service providers (and anyone commenting on this issue on MN!) that SINGLE SEX toilets are just that SINGLE SEX. “Transwomen” belong in the gents and “transmen” in the ladies.

Please stop peddling this nonsense and just shut up.

CrispsPlease · 10/10/2025 23:52

Happyjoe · 10/10/2025 23:45

Well, if they 'pass' then how would you be aware that they are transwomen anyway?

I see what you're saying, but it is extremely difficult for a male to reduce male features. Most native males will not be able to pass as females. I do think transwomen will be spotted instantly in a toilet. A select lucky few (that are born very short/petite, without wide shoulders and broad jaw lines ) will pass and we'll be none the wiser and so be it. But most really won't pass.

DH says

  • nose bleeds after a punch up
  • bullet holes

Neither seems to fit with the usual ambiance or clientele of a NT site..

Bit short-sighted, could be a clay pigeon shooting ding-dong, and a Mark Darcy and Daniel Cleaver style fisticuffs?

“Transmen” are female, ie. women and need to stay out of gents’ toilets.

It’s the law.

Also, if the NT wants to actually help, they could donate the money instead to a period poverty charity, and help women and girls in actual need.

I didn't know that. But I guess they'll probably be conscious of the occurrence and will likely carry protection. I can't be sure as I'm not trans, but I'd imagine their choice of sanitary protection would be pads or something non internal. I should imagine a tampon and the invasive nature of it going internally may cause dysmorphia.

Sixseveneight · 10/10/2025 18:17

It seems an odd thing to be so worked up about.

No it’s not. It means that they think women who pretend to be men can use the gents (illegal) and therefore men who pretend to be women can use the ladies ( illegal and dangerous)

Yes, I think you're right for the main. I think too a lot of it is down to access to hormones at an early age, to allow for the more delicate features. Which I believe has been stopped for now?

Tbh, I do prefer single sex spaces, all my life it has been like that and was always taught by my mum to watch out for blokes as the loos can be a lonely place, not sure if something happened to her in her youth but it was something she mentioned a bit growing up, and to try and go into them with a friend.

In reality though, well, never seen a transwomen in the loos, at least not someone I noticed!

towhoknowswhere · 11/10/2025 00:03

Bloozie · 10/10/2025 19:08

One tampon box.

One male loo.

Do you people never sleep...?

I think it's ace. I wouldn't give a flying fuck if there were tampon boxes in every single male loo in the country.

Because I'm a feminist. And if someone who was born a woman wishes for whatever reason - because they're trans, whatever - to use men's loos and it is safe for them to do so, I'm happy that they can access sanpro.

And it normalises periods.

And it's just a basic bit of human kindness that doesn't hurt me, or you, or any man using that loo.

Give it a fucking rest. There are real issues to get angry about - within the gender debate, and in the wider world. Stop rising to every single bit of fucking Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail fucking red meat click bait. It's absolutely fucking pathetic. You wouldn't even know, if someone hadn't decided they wanted to manufacture your outrage.

Take a day off.

I'll be honest: neither have I. I have met trans women at work etc (large inclusive employer) but never ever come face to face with one in the toilets. We do have gender neutral toilets though and I wonder if they use them. All in all, I'm sure many trans people aren't secretly plotting to molest females in toilets. But sadly the risk (as they're male) Is there, and it's a risk we can't afford. There does seem to be a growing movement of trans women advertising that they understand native females fears and reservations regarding this. I think the gender neutral provisions are ideal. That way the transperson doesn't have to declare their sex (which goes against their perceived gender ) when entering a toilet. But at the same time women are protected.

Why are you calling women 'females'? That's an absolute misogyny dog whistle, I only ever see incels and their ilk doing that usually.

Female is an adjective and can apply to dogs, monkeys, cats, bats and alligators. The word you're looking for when discussing humans is 'women'.

The victims of the person I named were girls. Surely it is entirely reasonable to use the word ‘females’ when referring to women and girls.

We would not be referring to female animals when discussing the use of toilets.

mrlistersgelfbride · 11/10/2025 00:27

This thread is batshit.
What will people get pissed off about next?
It’s a few tampons in some public toilets, Jesus Christ.
There are trans men, men who might take one for their wives and daughters or women who walk into men’s loos by mistake (the latter is common for me 🤣) . They might be making two stashes in case the tampon supply in the ladies runs out?!
Who is it hurting? Why do you really care?
I must be a really woke leftie loon because it think it’s absolutely fine.

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 11/10/2025 00:30

Moonlightfrog · 10/10/2025 20:53

How did you come to that conclusion? Men don’t use tampons. Trans men do.

Because they get women into men's toilets by putting san pro in there, most men won't actually care and then oh that's totally accepted so transwomen, men, can use the women's.
Tim Waltz was going for the same thing.

The only reason you have been able to post this is that you are clearly deeply ignorant of the debate around gender ideology and women’s rights that has been going on for years.

Please go away and inform yourself and, while you do, spare us these idiotic takes that have no substance and no relevance to them whatsoever.

Just to recap: what IS batshit is the idea that “special feels” magically and invisibly turn a man into a woman and vice versa and that these undefinable, untestable and unverifiable feels (ie. gender ideology) should be used to dismantle hard-won rights and protections for women and girls.

And if they hid a camera in the ladies to watch them use the toilet, would it be ok as long as women didn’t know they were being filmed?

Fukcedoff · 11/10/2025 04:48

So men get free tampons ,but the girls toilets in my schools did not have free tampons .the amount of times I had nothing to use because my parents didn't buy me any or give me money.and now men get them ..what a turn around in this mad world

WTDress · 11/10/2025 06:44

God, I’m about as Terfy as they come, but even I recognise that there may be trans men who chose to use the men’s toilet and may have use for sanitary products.

That might have been a good argument ten years ago, but thanks to gender ideology, an alarming number of people think that women and girls are mixed sex categories, so sometimes the word female has to be used for clarity.

Yes isn’t it brilliant that women (even ones that identify as men) can now access free sanitary products?
