Our team work remotely but we get together quarterly in person. Yesterday was a meeting in the office in the morning followed by a social so it was casual dress.

I was messaging a colleague earlier back and forth about work matters and he sent something really random and then instantly deleted it but I saw it pop up as a notification so read it.

It said ‘she knew what she was doing in those leggings’ with a sweat emoji.

Now I was the only one wearing leggings yesterday so it was definitely about me. This was at about 3.30 today and I finished at 4 so nothing more was said and I expect my colleague thinks he deleted it before I saw it.

Would you say something if you were me or pretend/forget I ever saw it?

Ditto to a pp who worked with a guy who got told not to wear cycling shorts in the workplace (to be fair to him he was intending to do some cycling at the end of the day). No way are those leggings appropriate work wear, and if you didn't know what you were doing, then you should have done. I am all for women should be able to wear what they like but no one should be able to wear inappropriate clothing in the workplace and get affronted if it provokes comments - of whatever nature - behind their backs. And maybe those size 16 ladies you dearly love were saying similar because let's face it - you wore an outfit that was designed to draw attention and are now pretending you didn't.

Oh look, it’s the second coming of Samantha Brick Hmm

Jasmine222 · 03/10/2025 18:40

why are some people so uptight... if someone sent that about me I'd be happy to know someone finds me attractive in leggings...what's the big deal?

Joliefolie · 03/10/2025 18:41

Making a big deal is the purpose of attention-seekers

Anchorage56 · 03/10/2025 18:41

You are either faux naive or love the attention, which is it? 😊

Mumlaplomb · 03/10/2025 18:41

Just googled scrunch bum leggings. They are very bum enhancing OP. That said your colleague shouldn’t be commenting in teams about you. I’d keep it under your belt in case he does anything else inappropriate but wouldn’t report him this time.

Naws · 03/10/2025 18:41

FuckKnowsMatee · 03/10/2025 18:36

Sounds like your colleague has clocked you as a bit of an attention seeker. And rightly so.

Yes and the OP is automatically taking it as a compliment 🙈

With respect to my colleagues, and I love most of the ladies dearly. But the average size is probably 16, so I don’t think leggings feature too prominently in their wardrobe!

Um, are you from outer space?

Stretch leggings are a convenient staple for women everywhere. This goes more so for women in larger sizes, not less, because they accommodate the wearer whatever her figure.

AnyoneWhoHasAHeart · 03/10/2025 17:22

Has no-one on here ever looked at a bloke and said to a friend “OMG he’s hot/lush/<insert term of choice>”? Not ever?

Honestly the way in which people get worked up about these things,

The fact that we now have messaging etc means that what you say can potentially be seen by the person you’ve said it about, but anyone who says they’ve never made a comment about someone they’ve found attractive is lying.

Well said. Double standards comes to mind. We all look at the menu, it’s human nature, you don’t have to eat from it.

gorlomi · 03/10/2025 18:04

Scrunch leggings are gross and need to be banned 😉

I wish I could laugh at this but it’s a story as old as time itself that women’s clothing choices are to blame for men’s poor behaviour.

And I wasn’t trying to bring attention to my perter arse, honestly.

Jespie · 03/10/2025 18:47

Well, that explains it.
You’re an engima compared to your colleagues who are unattractive, vile fatties who wouldn’t dare own a pair of leggings due to their disgusting physiques. I’ve heard they don’t sell leggings above a size 8 because the market wasn’t there.

🙄🙄🙄🙄 I’m calling troll. Or an arsehole.

sillyquestionalert · 03/10/2025 18:47

its a non event- he deleted it straight away so I would just get over it although I’m sure some will get annoyed by that and others will get a secret thrill.
to be honest leggings and a fitted tshirt isn’t work wear unless you work at the gym, so not surprised there was a slight reaction on a rainy boring Friday

LoveItaly · 03/10/2025 18:48

Apparently not in the soulless, humourless land of the chronically po-faced.

i wonder how these women's husbands ever made a move without being reported for doing so.

Totally agree, so glad I started my working life in the 1980’s when we could all have a banter and no one had hurt feelings. I’m not excusing sexual harassment before I get piled on, but this wasn’t that in my opinion. Another one to question wearing leggings into an office, too.

I suspect the leggings are a distraction from the hairy hands.

newnamehereonceagain · 03/10/2025 18:51
  1. What are SB leggings, please?
  2. This is one of these deliberately provocative threads I think, no?

I’ve just looked up SB leggings. Crumbs. Do people seriously wear those to dress down work days? (Apparently.)

defrazzled · 03/10/2025 18:51

there's leggings and there's leggings.Scrunch leggings? Are they the ones that go up your arse crack? If so YABU to wear those to a work event.

Speckly · 03/10/2025 18:52

I’m astounded at how many people are going down the “well she was asking for it, wearing that” route! 😳 😡 It doesn’t matter what she chose to wear (I doubt it was unsuitable as I imagine OP knows what she can and can’t wear in her own workplace or she would presumably have been called in by her manager or HR) he shouldn’t be making mysogynistic comments, full stop!!!

As others have said OP, I’d message back:

“Unfortunately for you, you didn’t delete that message quickly enough. If I ever hear you speak about me or anyone else that way again, I will elevate it straight to HR.

You are obviously too gorgeous for words OP 🤷‍♀️

Yep. Did you honeymoon in Maui @Islandhopper10 ?

Maybebaby6 · 03/10/2025 18:53

It's poor behaviour.

But he will forever now have to live with the fact that you potentially know he is a sleeze. Hopefully that embarrassment will put him off doing that again.

If it would me probably the most I would do is just respond to the deleted message and say "received this" to confuse him and scare the crap out of him.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 03/10/2025 18:53

Islandhopper10 · 03/10/2025 17:54

They were just bog standard scrunch leggings with a tight fit casual t shirt, I didn’t really give them much thought to be honest!

What job do you do @Islandhopper10 ? If it not a PT in a gym, and you were at the gym, then scrunch leggings and a short, tight shirt was really inappropriate and if you genuinely didn’t give it any thought you really really should.

Leave it now, embarrassing enough all round.

Balloonhearts · 03/10/2025 18:56

I can assure you that if you wore scrunch leggings and a short, tight top, EVERYTHING was on show. Those leggings are designed to showcase your arse, OP. Really not suitable work wear at all.

AstonUniversityPotholeDepartment · 03/10/2025 18:56

When women pair leggings with hooded sweatshirts, it produces an upside-down triangle silhouette that reminds me of Johnny Bravo.

Maybebaby6 · 03/10/2025 18:56

Ah I had it in my mind you were wearing leggings and a long top or dress over them 90s style
