Constipation- nothing works!

Boxingshibes · 22/09/2025 16:28

I've been constipated for 20 days now!
I've been taking senokot for the last 12 days and Movacol twice daily for a week.
I even tried glycerine suppositories over the weekend.
Nothing!
What else can I do?
It's really uncomfortable and I have a pain in my side.
Aibu to this one of these should have worked?

I suffer so badly with constipation and have done all my life. I went about 14 days recently and read about salty warm water - I don’t think it’s very good for you and I don’t want you to be poorly but it did help in that it gave me the urge. I have found that I have to sit on the toilet and do little thrusts over and over again for quite a while and then I have to contort my body so that I’m sort of slumped back and it forces the poo out (I’m sorry I know that’s gross but I’m guessing you’re desperate - I cried when I went after 14 days) because it had gotten so hard and compact I needed to sort of squash the poo in order for it to narrow enough to start coming out and slumping down and pushing did that.

My god you poor thing. Have you tried cutting the usual suspects out of your diet? Wheat, dairy, refined carbs, legumes etc and slowly reintroducing. Your poor little body. That’s just not right

No it doesn’t!! You haven’t even spelt it right, are you qualified to give medical advice??
OP call 111 or present at A&E.
I’m reporting this thread for the dangerous bullshit being suggested to the OP, suggesting anyone else with an ounce of sense please does the same!

Im not giving medical advice calm down!!!!

A person makes a comment about evacuation position thats all. And so I spell it wrong, big wow. I'll go back to my specialist and tell him he got it all wrong as well, although to be fair he can definitely spell it right.

I also say please call 111.

Ignore the prune juice, wine, biscuits etc advice.

BerryTwister · 22/09/2025 18:23

OP if you have genuinely not passed anything but a bit of wind in nearly 3 weeks, then you need to see a doctor. You may have an obstruction, which puts you at risk of bowel perforation.

3 days of not going - mumsnet advice is ' give it a go'
20 days of not going us possible serious blockage/obstruction/inflammatory conditions/tumour.... etc - get the to a Doctor !!!

Marieb19 · 22/09/2025 18:23

Do you take a lot of laxatives a lot of the time? Drink lots of water 3 litres ish a day. Google massage for constipation and start doing it a few times a day. It does work but you need to do both to get things moving.

I actually don’t care. Nobody should be giving any medical advice on an anonymous forum. Insane. I am not a lawyer so I don’t go round giving legal advice, because I am not qualified to do so. Some of the responses in this thread are mental. And potentially dangerous.

You need to drink 8 sachets of movicol per day, as by now you'll be severely impacted. Nothing else will work when it gets to this stage. If no movement after the first day, repeat daily. Good luck!

Yes, this 👆

OP. The sensible people on here are telling you to seek medical advice asap. You should ring 111 now. I think that would be the quickest way to get to see a doctor. I am really worried you might have an obstruction.

Please go tonight.

Rosscameasdoody · 22/09/2025 18:45

A little bottle of Califig from the chemist aisle in Sainsbury’s or similar. A tablespoon stirred into a glass of orange juice. Then don’t stray far from the bathroom !! But I’m with others here, you really should see a doctor as it sounds as though you may have an obstruction that needs treatment.

You really need to at least speak to a doctor today.

Luluissleeping · 22/09/2025 18:55

Molaxole. Follow the instructions and take sick leave for a few days, or base it partly over a weekend. It takes 2 to 3 days to start working, so you could maybe take thurs to fri off work, then Monday if needed. You can get it over the counter. Beware, it is evil.

endofthelinefinally · 22/09/2025 19:00

PLEASE stop telling OP to take laxatives. It is so dangerous if the bowel is obstructed. Read the OP - she has already taken laxatives and tried suppositories. She needs to be examined by a doctor and have an abdominal Xray and/or a scan.

Eat a whole bag of sugar free sweets.
My friend swears by it.

😆 I was on an incredibly dull training course and to keep awake, I ate a whole box of those sugar free rhubarb and custard sweets from M&S. I actually thought I was going to shit myself on the drive home.

OP-what are you doing mate? Just ring 111 NOW! You've had loads of warnings on this thread as to how serious this could be.

No one is going to die from you not training them but you could end up being admitted to hospital or worse if you don't take some action.
Hope you get sorted soon. Sounds dreadful

Very odd though that out of 4 pages of mostly people giving actual medical advice such as take this medication, take that suppository, do this action, do that action, you reply to my post in particular in a heightened state where I wasnt a) replying to the OP and b) not giving any medical advice at all.

Strange.

Exactly this; you need to have all 8 sachets within a 6 hour period and make sure you're well hydrated. As long as you're passing wind it's not a medical emergency.

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 22/09/2025 19:14

A double espresso, a cigarette, and most importantly, go to the Library.

LindorDoubleChoc · 22/09/2025 19:22

It is so very obvious that you cannot self medicate or solve a problem as serious as this. 20 days is horrendous. Call 101. Ignore the twats giving all the usual home remedy ideas. I don't know why you've let it go this long OP? I was utterly miserable and slightly panicking at 2 days recently.

Wtafdidido · 22/09/2025 19:23

Nothing will work if you are not getting enough fluids and with novice etc you need to drink even more. I need 2-3 litres a day. Eat lots of kiwi fruit and mashed frozen raspberries as that works a treat

Wtafdidido · 22/09/2025 19:26

Just take the time off work to see a bloody dr. You will end up seriously ill and your health is so much more important than your work. Everyone gets ill at some point and everyone is entitled to sick days. If you quit or does tomorrow you would be replaced promptly. You are not indispensable. Put yourself first

Bloody hell OP you are not realising just how much danger you are in!

If you were having pains down your left arm and shortness of breath and people told you to ring an ambulance or go to A&E immediately you wouldn't witter on about work would you?

You are in a potentially lethal situation. You need urgent medical attention. Stop thinking about work!
