Constipation- nothing works!

Boxingshibes · 22/09/2025 16:28

I've been constipated for 20 days now!
I've been taking senokot for the last 12 days and Movacol twice daily for a week.
I even tried glycerine suppositories over the weekend.
Nothing!
What else can I do?
It's really uncomfortable and I have a pain in my side.
Aibu to this one of these should have worked?

Perhaps you should call 111, op. 💐

Boxingshibes · 22/09/2025 16:57

Passing wind a bit. I feel a bit nauseous and don't want to eat.
My worry is that I have pain in my left side and can feel a hard lump but I have a really high pain threshold so probably won't be able to tell if something is wrong till it's really serious.
(Nearly died from sepsis as I didn't think it was too bad before)

In which case, you definitely need to let a medical professional decide if it’s serious or not! Give them a ring. I hope you’re better soon!

BMW6 · 22/09/2025 16:59

Doctor now. You do realise that your bowel could explode or you could vomit your faeces up? You could die?

The exploding bowel happened to Matthew Perry. He had a stoma and many operations afterwards and he was very lucky not to have died back then.

Work is not important compared to the other options above is it.

Katemax82 · 22/09/2025 16:59

Have you put a gloves finger inside to see if there's a lot of hard poo there? You could try breaking it up a bit to get things moving

hulahoopbbq · 22/09/2025 17:00

Have you tried laxatives like dulcolax? I really would go to the doctor 20 days is a very long time with no movement at all.

PomegranateVase · 22/09/2025 17:02

Fill a mug with boiling hot water and stir in 1 tablespoon of salt, one tablespoon of sugar, and squeeze in the juice of half a lemon and stir and drink.

This should help you around 1 hour after drinking.

PersistentRain · 22/09/2025 17:02

DH has bowel issues and has been impacted before, he went to A&E and all they say is movicol but to up the dose.
Prepare to take a lot of it and make sure you follow the instructions. Prunes etc won’t do anything at this stage, you need a softener and lots of it.
Take 8 sachets, every day, until it works.

DoNoTakeNo · 22/09/2025 17:03

Please ignore everything here apart from getting medical advice tonight.
Best wishes 💐

Thats not going to help impaction.

smallsilvercloud · 22/09/2025 17:04

Suppositories can help immediately, and make trigger your bowels to work, I’d get to the chemist now

Just go to the Dr's.

itbemay1 · 22/09/2025 17:13

4 Dulcolax and 2 pints of water before bed

Motherofdragons24 · 22/09/2025 17:14

Have a few glasses of wine. Problem will be sorted by tomorrow lunch time.

gmgnts · 22/09/2025 17:16

Wine does not help with constipation. You need to phone 111. This could be a serious medical problem. Good luck!

thegirlwithapearl · 22/09/2025 17:17

I was in hospital over the summer with among other problems a bowel blockage.
My doctor was constantly asking me if I'd passed wind and when I wasn't she was very concerned.
I ended up having suppositories, strong laxatives and morphine because the pain was so bad.
Please go to the doctor. It's a really serious condition that can make you very ill.

Honestly, it really worries me that people come here for medical advice because this is the type of replies they get. I’ll informed and dangerous.
OP, 20 days is really concerning. Please call 111 for an out of hours appointment.

Edenmum2 · 22/09/2025 17:22

dulcolax is very effective, but yes you also need a lot more movicol. Look at disimpaction advice

endofthelinefinally · 22/09/2025 17:23

You need to see a doctor. Don't take any more laxatives or anything else until you have been properly examined by a doctor.

No it won't.

endofthelinefinally · 22/09/2025 17:26

There is some really dangerous advice on here. OP you could have an obstructed bowel and that needs medical attention asap.

Agreed every time I see a constipation thread it's the same I don't think people understand how dangerous impaction can be.

HelpMeGetThrough · 22/09/2025 17:28

ignore all the shit on here, apart from the ones telling you to get medical advice, sooner rather than later.

Bugger work, you can take time, your health is more important.

alwaysthesamechild · 22/09/2025 17:29

Two bisacodyl and three 7.5mg senna tabs should do it. But it’s a long time 20 d. It could be tough
