Fucking flags

xmaspud3 · 09/09/2025 15:01

I know this has probably been done to death on here and there will be lots of threads about it already but I cant be bothered to trawl through the site for them so here I am.

I’m so irritated by the England flags popping up everywhere. There has been an influx put up in my area over the last week, it seems to be increasing by the day. I don’t hate the flag, but I hate the fact it is being used to send a clear message by racists. People aren’t doing it to be patriotic they are doing it to be hateful towards those that they don’t feel ‘belong’ in their country.

I don’t want to see all of these flags in my area. If people are entitled to put them up then why am I not entitled to go and cut the fuckers down? And don’t get me started on the spray painting of public roundabouts and road signage by people who allegedly love their country so much that they are vandalising it at the expense of public money.

If I see one more person give a ‘big well done to whoever has erected the flags on xyz street’ on Facebook I will explode. Does anyone else feel ragey over it?

I live in two very naice areas One in Scotland and one in England. Not a sniff of a flag in either place. Maybe it should be an estate agent selling point. 🤣

There is a thread on MN from someone who is selling their house, but the flag hoisting neighbour is putting people off.

Why do you lot always say you're "not being listened to"? What does it even mean. We're obviously listening, hence this discussion. Being heard doesn't mean you get what you want.

Amen to this.
"Not being listened to"
And yet Farage is being lauded and relentlessly quoted on the TV every fucking day.
And vox pops are rarely from those who welcome immigration.
And the mainstream media is almost goading for a civil war.
And so many right wing commentators spot lengthy opinion pieces in chosen newspapers, always against immigration.
And right wing politicians are more often given a platform on shows like Question Time, far more than other smaller parties.
And the "protesters" who are hanging flags are given more airtime than the people who are suffering the racist abuse.
And the government is happily jumping on the flag shagging bandwagon instead of saying "you know what, this isn't right."
And then there's the woman who posted about burning immigrants getting a standing ovation at the Reform party conference.
There's the the British (but brown guy) being interviewed by Sky News in Nuneaton who was trying to get his point across but was harassed by a load of white Brits spouting racist abuse - they sure were being listened to then.
And then the woman who posted on facebook that she'd seen refugees being bused into a hotel in - yet again - Nuneaton. So many people listened to her that the hotel was swamped with phone calls and even had intimidating men turning up to cause problems overnight. Except the bus was full of sports players attending an important match nearby.

"We're not being listened to" they cry while far too many people are listening, getting wound up about half truths and lies and dragging this country into a sewer.

MC846 · 09/09/2025 20:06

It's such a shame really, our local town has them and tbh they look lovely. I took the kids out on Saturday and they thought there was some sort of celebration/festival because that's usually the only time we have the flags out, unfortunately that's not the intention of them this time 🤦

Someone posted a video of these characters recently, all dancing around to Fit and You Know It. All white, middle aged, pot bellied, red faced men swilling beer and draped in the George Cross, intimidating passers by. I always think of Al Murray's Pub Landlord now when I see an England flag. We've fallen so far as a nation since all that national pride and unity of 2012, when nobody had a problem with those displaying the Union flag and all communities were proud to fly it. It actually makes me really sad at how far Farage, Tommy and the like have dragged us down with hatred and division.

Can you imagine what someone like Nigel Farage really thinks about these people?

Read the thread and all the other threads on this subject NOBODY HATES THE FLAG ITSELF it is the motives of Yaxley-Lennon and his mates who have been promoting this.

So what if they have. The people of this country have decided they want their flag on show. No amount of trying to shame them is going to change that. The racist accusation has lost all meaning now. True racism will always be a problem, which anybody who's decent will acknowledge. This thread proves - as with the numerous others- that there's a section of society who love to piss on anything England related. The saddest thing is, it's the country's own people doing that. You keep apologising. The rest of us aren't stopping flying the flags.

Oooooh, I love a flag thread! Problem is, it’s just a bit repetitive, and the posts can get a bit ugly between the warring factions. I absolutely love seeing the flag being displayed. I love my country. If people have a problem with that, then it comes under the heading ‘too bad’. I see lots of things on a daily basis that I don’t like, or don’t agree with 🤷‍♀️

Not all the people - a small minority. The flags are concentrated in small areas they are not everywhere.

I haven't read the whole thread. However, I am wondering about the lives and the mindset of the people who are doing this. Maybe people feeling very let down by life, who feel that they have very little, and who maybe think that the little they have is being threatened by illegal immigrants?

There are a lot of people whom the education system has failed. People who might perhaps have voted for Brexit but who have actually been damaged by Brexit. People who need help and other options and who might see Reform as appealing to them. The sad thing is that the needs are real but Reform is likely to make things a lot worse for a lot of people who vote for them.

You feel like we’re at war?

With who? Fighting for what?

There a real wars going on, right now, that are a little bit more devastating than a flag. I’m not saying you’re not entitled to have issues with whatever you have issues with, but it is very far from the same as war.

And calling the British flag supporters "nazis" is as far from the actual meaning of nazi that you could possibly get.

Are you listening?
Or are you just hearing what you want to hear?

You and others are clearly cherry picking what you hear.
And putting the same type of spin on it that the "far right" are doing.

Nobody in this comes out of it smelling of roses (red or otherwise).

wldpwr · 09/09/2025 20:14

This campaign, in the end, will probably mean the flag is flown LESS over time, as the 60% here and out there won't want to fly it. That isn't for lack of patriotism but because it's been co-opted for a cause we find sinister and troubling (and against British values). So if the campaign is just an innocent attempt to get us to all express our patriotism more, it's failed.

Ask those people why they are flying. I was born in one of those cities. Locals have welcomed and integrated with ethnic minorities. They aren't racist. They are just tired of feeling like second class citizens in the country they were born in. I don't blame them, I blame clueless governments.

I haven’t seen any evidence anywhere of them being put up by racists.

It is literally part of 'operation raise the colours' is organised by the far right. It is racist, xenophobic, and wrong.

Very patronising post. Many Reform voters are very rounded, educated individuals. If Reform get in then it’s because Starmer and the Tories have failed to listen to the majority.

QuirkyHorse · 09/09/2025 20:18

The person putting them up in our town is an out and out, loud and proud racist. You only need to look at his FB page to know this.

I cringe at the people who are encouraging his flag flying, I feel they are probably lacking intelligence. Just a little poke around would let them know his intentions but there again, they are probably cut from the same cloth.

I feel said for the large part of the community who these are aimed at which is 2nd and 3rd generation immigrants.

Dangermoos · 09/09/2025 20:18

It might die down, until the next idiotic teacher decides to exclude a girl from taking part in a celebratory event, or the two tier shit continues, all in the name of diversity. There's something that comes in between diversity and that's balance.

Proud to be born in England. Makes me happy seeing them :) why shouldn't they be every here. Other countries have them up 🤷‍♀️

And if it were simply for love of country, that's fine, but it's not. They are being put up by nasty violent bigoted racists.
