Incredibly boring programs - Starting with Ben Fogle

EllyRoff · 13/08/2025 21:07

BF lives in the Wild must be the most boring program ever made. Every episode is the same:

“We left the rat race to live in a cow shed in the middle of nowhere. We live on rain water and mouldy vegetables but we’re so happy”

Next minute the socially isolated kids are shown studying butterflies or some shit.

I just can’t stomach it, normally I can sit and watch anything but this just irritates me beyond belief, I have to leave the room whilst DH watches it. The only other thing that comes close is Jools Holland.

Anyone else have such a strong dislike of a particular program?

Anything with smug Sandi Toksvig and her supercilious manner.

Yes, she seems to have the Stephen Fry air.

AmyDudley · 14/08/2025 11:54

Any of those 'Why won't my house sell?' programmes. Answer - because you've replaced your bathroom with a sex dungeon, have painted all your walls black and have your collection of 700 ventriloquist dummies on display. Next.

David Attenborough has a very annoying voice doesn’t he? He always sounds like he’s crying

His iconic (and much imitated) semi whisper.

Giant figure in global broadcasting.

Yes, I love him.

COUNTRYFILE, COUNTRYFILE, COUNTRYFILE - What is the point? although I always buy the calendar every year - the programme is soooooo niche,

Sorry to find myself saying this but a Jeremy Clarkson makeover would triple its audience. Who would have thought a farm programme would prove so popular?± I dislike him a lot but he's made an entertaining series.

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2025 11:59

J C is entertaining on his show. It’s the other people too who make it fun and they actually know what they are talking about which helps. It’s honestly taught me a lot as I had ( most) farmers down as just ‘the elite ‘ when they really arn’t.

RedRec · 14/08/2025 12:00

The antiques one where they all kick a leg up and go "Yes, yes!" at the end. Feel like kicking my own leg up. At the screen.

And the one where Arthur Smith has sold his soul in doing the narration. A very annoying woman accosts people for their old tat at the tip. It is then tarted up in a very expensive and artisan way and sold for an eye watering amount to an 'I Saw You Coming' antiques dealer who flogs it for even more.

Emeraldbile444 · 14/08/2025 12:10

I’d rather watch Richard Osman any day than Victoria Coren. Only Connect is one big smug-fest! But there again, if you have seen one episode of Pointless …you have seen enough for a lifetime 😀

I like Clare Balding (except when she is being obsequious about the royals) but can’t stand Kate Humble as she always presents like she is speaking to five year olds.

I would love to go and live in the wild so I like Ben Fogle’s programme! He’s always so polite; but I want to know what they really think of each other at the end! 😄

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2025 12:14

Bargain hunt, homes under the hammer, repair shop, the upcycling type shows, property shows all have had their day and many are repeated ad finitely during the summer months too and many show prices from years ago on the more obscure channels too.

Don’t watch much tv but the ones that get the tv turned off super quick are:

Mrs Brown's Boys, obvs

Football, esp Scottish football. Who cares?

Scottish comedy. I live in Scotland. They chuck money at Scottish comedians no matter how shite they are. There must be a budgets for making tv more Scottish, regardless of the quality. It’s so bad!

Apprentice.

Masterchef.

There are others, but these are the ones we’d rather throw the tv out of the top floor window than watch.

Scottish television seems to mostly be three categories: Comedy that's not that funny, murder mysteries, and "documentaries" about the arse end of nowhere. But if you want really bad, try Give My Head Peace, the long-running Northern Irish "comedy", which is about the worst thing I've ever seen on television, relying on bad 70s jokes and stereotypes of men and women, and generally giving the impression NI is stuck in some weird sectarian misogynistic dark age. I have no idea how in a country of almost 2 million people it's had enough ratings to keep going this long.

Yes Sarah is extremely annoying and smug. All seems so staged.

narration is irritating

then place in the country with out of date prices and couples who have unrealistic demands and the music is soooo irritating

This whole thread has me in stitches when I should working.
I actually think it's one for Classics

Moonnstars · 14/08/2025 12:23

Shows that were initially a hit but then continue for far too many series' - I loved the great British bake off at first but now it's just boring. Strictly is the same. I have a feeling it will happen with The Traitors too.

the80sweregreat · 14/08/2025 12:31

I guess with ‘ the traitors’ ( which I’ve never watched myself ) is people now know how to behave and it loses something. When a show is young and fresh it’s not as staged.

OccasionalHope · 14/08/2025 12:39

All sports apart from the sports I like.

Question Time.

Party political broadcasts.

Reality shows that are not skills based.

Children in Need, Comic Relief and similar.

chat shows.

Comedians who aren’t funny.

Britain’s Got talent.

Yes that is true. I also think the producers also don't naturally seek out certain types of people at first, but as shows go on there are always certain stereotypes and you can see people have been deliberately selected because of the character they portray.

IfNot · 14/08/2025 13:00

Gold hunters of Australia or whatever it’s called.
Its the same EVERY TIME
Two mahogany baked men have sold all their possessions ( probably after their wives left them) bought some mining equipment off Gumtree and spend all their time looking for gold. At the end they find a tiny bit, get it weighed and it’s worth a few quid. Not enough to pay off the equipment obvs but oh how exciting. Repeat ad infinitum.
It’s essentially an incredibly tedious repetitive insight into gambling addiction.
DP loves it.

RedRec · 14/08/2025 13:34

Arraminta · 13/08/2025 21:31

Any program where mediocre, uneducated members of the public have to puzzle things out. It's absolutely tortuous to watch.

Current top contender are those randoms on a bus trying to fathom where they are in Europe.

This equally fits in with the 'middle aged, middle class man travelling about and talking about stuff' thing. It also has the tedious "ooh, I am sensing tension between x and y" manufactured jeopardy.
I do like Rob Brydon though, just not in this.

aWeeCornishPastie · 14/08/2025 13:45

I like jools Holland and Ben fogle lol. I must have watched about 50-70 episodes of Dance Mums. Sometimes I have to leave the room as it’s a bit much

Coffeeishot · 13/08/2025 22:28

Oh god yes they are all on planner ! The one where they just go up and down the motorway is the worst!

There was one episode that made me laugh out loud
a guy had been arrested and was in the back of the police car and pipes up “but you never introduced yourself as police, how was I meant to know?”

police “did the blue flashing lights, the police car chasing you and the uniform not give it away?”

guy arrested “still should have said you were police. Maybe I’m blind and didn’t see the lights”

police “I’ll add that to the driving charges”

I leave the room instantly if Mrs browns boys is on, I just hate it. No one actually watches it in this house so it’s not something I’ve had to do often 😂
Motor racing - dh will occasionally watch it if it’s on, he’s not a big follower - the endless drone of engines makes me want to slice my own ears off.
Op I haven’t seen this programme you’re talking about but it sounds like drab worthy bollocks to me and I don’t think I’d be sitting through it either!

Who watches Mrs Brown's boys it's appalling i. Have only ever caught it as Xmas at my parents and it's Dire ,yet they have a new series out ,just why?

Mrs Brown's Boys gets a huge audience! Quite often the biggest Christmas Day one. Makes you wonder why LOL!

I will confess to originally being bit of a fan of it. Loved the Christmas specials. But this past 3 or 4 years I've gone right off it. Dire and unfunny 'jokes,' the additional characters laughing seems forced (doesn't look genuine to me half the time,) very dated material, and most of the 'jokes' and 'funny lines' seem to be reliant on smut/nob gags/sexual innuendo.

Can't watch it anymore. 😖

SunlitUpland · 14/08/2025 09:11

Oh, agreed! Who is that weird elderly man with the enormous, colourful ties, who has clearly made a career out of having once been some royal’s secretary? Or that grey-haired man with the ‘slit in a pillar box’ mouth who was once a tabloid ‘journalist’? Or that strangely crumpled-looking woman who used to edit some royalist magazine and does pieces to camera about Princess Diana’s frocks or Sophie opening a community centre with the blinding intensity of someone reporting from a war zone?

I can’t stop laughing at this! 😆😃. It’s so true! They are odious the lot of them!
