Incredibly boring programs - Starting with Ben Fogle

EllyRoff · 13/08/2025 21:07

BF lives in the Wild must be the most boring program ever made. Every episode is the same:

“We left the rat race to live in a cow shed in the middle of nowhere. We live on rain water and mouldy vegetables but we’re so happy”

Next minute the socially isolated kids are shown studying butterflies or some shit.

I just can’t stomach it, normally I can sit and watch anything but this just irritates me beyond belief, I have to leave the room whilst DH watches it. The only other thing that comes close is Jools Holland.

Anyone else have such a strong dislike of a particular program?

Yes Sarah is extremely annoying and smug. All seems so staged.

narration is irritating

then place in the country with out of date prices and couples who have unrealistic demands and the music is soooo irritating

I hate that programme with a passion, she gets a piece of shit and someone turns into..guess what?
Another piece of shit.

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/08/2025 00:33

Sarah wasn't interested in my shit (old curtains hat had been used to protect the floor when painting the bedroom) when they were filming an episode at our local recycling centre a couple of years ago.

CrushingOnRubies · 17/08/2025 00:46

the one where the lady upcycles stuff from the dump spends £500 to look shit then gives £20 to someone on their doorstep who donated it charity

the one with Nigel Havers and some antique experts

the one with Helen Skelton fishing for old mobiles from lake Windermere

the next two are what dp calls the BBC 2 6:30 slot of doom. Where for 9 months of the year they have to find something to fill the schedule as Strictly it takes two isn’t on.

Robson Greene doing weekend getaways with celebs

And last but not least Joanna Paige from Gavin & Stacey working at a wildlife sanctuary

Marylou2 · 13/08/2025 21:18

Definitely that one where Helen Skelton fishes crap out of a lake. No idea what it's called and can't be arsed to Google it.

Anything with Helen Skelton in it is switched over in my house. Not sure what it is about her, partly her dreadful voice, but find her unwatchable.

BarmyFotheringay · 17/08/2025 02:38

SunlitUpland · 16/08/2025 23:54

Why do those couples on A Place in the Sun always hold hands and look as if they’ve been taken hostage and driven around a lot of incredibly charmless properties against their will?

Even better when they are shown a property on a steep hill with a spiral staircase although they have stated they have bad hips/knees/mobility problems.

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 17/08/2025 03:50

Darts or snooker.

A lot of reality TV is boring. I hate all of it.

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 17/08/2025 05:24

ScorchingEgg · 13/08/2025 22:15

Ben Fogle gives me the serious ick. I feel like my entire reproductive system shuts up shop when he comes on the TV.

He literally bumped into me/stood on my foot in a waterstones once... He was totally graceless.

Didn't like his programmes before...

He gave me the ick even more!

Serpentstooth · 17/08/2025 06:34

I've never seen one - obviously - but whole programmes about fishing. Fishing! No, don't try to persuade me.

dottiedodah · 17/08/2025 06:43

I like BF very much.He always seems to be very kind and understanding. Some of his shows are better than others .A beautiful Norwegian model last week lived with an African tribe.very interesting 🤔 and thought provoking.another show couple high paying jobs give it up to do an old bakery up less so

TorroFerney · 17/08/2025 06:56

garlictwist · 13/08/2025 21:50

I do like Ben Fogle. Might be sacrilege but I find David Attenborough really boring. And any kind of country file/springwatch shite about lambs.

I cannot watch David Attenborough. I love lambs though.

Conversensational · 17/08/2025 07:04

We used to be huge fans of big cat week. It was such a nice programme and all filmed really well. They put together stories of each cat they followed in a slick production.

Then they decided to make it live for some god awful reason, presumably because springwatch was doing well at the time. So it changed into a load of people around a camp fire in the dark trying to perhaps hear a hyena and using night vision cameras to try and find the lion pride. It was bloody awful.

We did recently try a program with rob brydon where people had to guess where they'd been taken in the world. They were very thick and the entire program was tedious in the extreme.

Chocaholic1216 · 17/08/2025 07:19

Thought the same about Rob Brydon’s new show. But it does get less tedious with less faffing about. Glad I stuck with it

😂

tbf She made some quite nice decorations the other day.

it’s just the format of the programme and how it is so contrived with annoying music

spoonbillstretford · 17/08/2025 12:34

I think there is a place for slow TV. Not necessarily boring, obviously you have to be interested in the content. But it doesn't have to be fast paced and require minimal concentration.

100% with you op; any program when 'stories' become more important than the reason you sat down to watch. Medical we want medical, repairing we want to see that. I do not give a shit about the life they lead, how they met, I want facts. Tell us more about you ...... why, there are plenty of programmes that offer chat and wittering. I don't care and it is getting more common.

Anything with Gyles Brandreth gets turned over in our house. It’s the loud theatrical voice, the jumpers, the way he talks over everyone and about himself. There is also something about him that gives me the creeps.

And I find the “look at me” , “clever clever” word play stuff and reciting of “interesting” anecdotes beyond irritating and tedious. And I say that as a lover of Scrabble!

I agree. It’s as though producers are of the opinion that nothing has any innate value unless someone is “emoting” everywhere. It can feel quite exploitative at times as well.

Hard agree. I am sick to the fucking back teeth hearing about mediocre people's 'journey' and having them sob at the drop of a hat. Get a grip.

RaraRachael · 17/08/2025 18:18

Hate the "journeys" and "sob stories" too. Goodness knows how we survived in the 70s and 80s without all this nonsense.

OwlsR · 17/08/2025 18:30

Radio 4 - Anita Anand Any Answers just doesn’t stop talking
Melvyn Bragg knows so much more than the experts he has on In Out Time
The programme replacing Today on Saturday mornings. Unfortunately there is actual important news from Friday including in the Summer.

Used to love David Attenborough and had a lot of time for his environmental messages. Really disliked most recent show I saw where it felt like the wildlife was just a side show to telling us about climate change. I have seen the parenthood one so going to try it.
Mrs Browns Boys has me rushing for the remote
I like Only Connect but mute the presenter including some false sing along she forces.

Serpentstooth · 17/08/2025 20:10

Ridley. Starring Honest Ted from Line of Duty as a detective, usual slaughtered woman opening scene. All as expected. But, God help me, he SINGS. Each episode he's warbling away on a stage, aside from his detecting duties. He's an OK singer, nothing special. I find it really annoying.

Actually, I don't know which is worse:
a) white middle aged men travelling around making tedious programmes, or
b) white middle aged men who don't even travel; they stay at home and just do the voice-over.

Do you think the programmes would be any better if the middle aged men were black?
