Toasted tiger bread with butter and jam...lighthearted.

As the title says. Toasted till dark but not burnt tiger bread with lashings of salted butter and a thick spread of extra special strawberry jam. Am I being an unreasonable weirdo with both butter and jam? Or am I a very reasonable buttery jam munching slavery carb muncher? How do you take yours? If you like toast/butter/jam? Or too scared and just toast/jam. 😃

Oh yes.
I like it best with crunchy peanut butter and the jam with seeds in though

Tuningfork · 07/08/2025 20:13

I have never dashed over to the YANBU button so quickly in my life. Who are these strange people who don't have butter and jam?!

Or as my lovely Mum used to say "Tuningfork likes a bit of bread and jam with her butter".

Dontcallmescarface · 07/08/2025 20:15

A slight scraping of butter (butter "puddles" turn my stomach), with some vegemite is the king of toppings IMVHO.

Silver lining there then...this could possibly be the first post that nearly 100% YNBU is given, 😆 🤣 .

Only on MN does one have to state 'lighthearted' to discuss enjoying some fucking buttered toast Grin

Because on MN there are many people who could start an argument in an empty room and will twist any topic into an opportunity to promote their own opinions quite viciously!

SunflowerLife · 07/08/2025 19:57

I have to have a small bit of butter with peanut butter or it gets too claggy in my mouth.

Oh God yes - that clog of chocolate nuttiness 🤢

soupyspoon · 07/08/2025 20:21

YABU to even ask the question.

Who wouldnt have butter and jam together, why would you even think to ask if there is any alternative?

I dont eat bread, most of the time. But I have been trying to make my own bread, for other people and just for the hell of it to be honest

I got a slice out of the freezer, my bread is far superior than anything found in the shops.

I had butter and tahini that had honey mixed in it.

It was gorgeous and I ate the whole slice, when normally I can only manage a small bit of bread, I will pay for this later unfortunately.

You have to butter on toast and tiger bread is my favourite. I tried sourdough last week and it was vile bit I think it’s this particular manufacturer.

Isabelle70 · 07/08/2025 20:24

I have fallen for the tiger bread in fact going to have some as my dinner tonight as I have just got home.
I used to have honey on toast as a kid, need to get some fancy honey and try that again!

Ohhilois · 07/08/2025 20:25

YABU.

I was diagnosed with celiac 5 years ago and I can never eat delicious, soft white bread again.

(Please no suggestions GF bread, it’s horrendous and full of shite and I’ve tried baking my own, all sorts of different recipes and it’s all a poor comparison to real bread).

AhBiscuits · 07/08/2025 20:26

Toast must always be buttered irrespective of what you are adding next.

Poor you, that’s not good. I agree GF bread is crap. 🌸🌸

taxidriver · 07/08/2025 20:28

unless it was blackcurrant jam

OneNeatBlueOrca · 07/08/2025 20:29

Because of this thread, I came straight home and made a piece of toast with butter and jam. Though it was nice I was disappointed. My butter wasn't salted and my bread wasn't tiger.

WiddlinDiddlin · 07/08/2025 20:32

The only acceptable preparation is:

Toast + butter + whatever topping you want .

Toast must go with butter. If no butter, then no toast.

Butter + peanut butter is fine, peanut butter is not butter, it's ground up peanuts. It's too claggy without butter.

Anyone who eats toast + jam, no butter, needs to be fired from a cannon into the sea!

(My resolve on the butter issue gets shakey when it comes to chocolate spread because obviously butter plus chocolate = wrong. The answer is to not eat chocolate spread on toast/bread. Dip biscuits in it instead.)

soupyspoon · 07/08/2025 20:32

Who the hell buys unsalted butter?

Even if a recipe calls for unsalted butter I ignore it and use salted butter

And then some more salt.

Jam without butter is crap! The toast is too dry. Now, how about butter, peanut butter and jam? Grin Peanut butter is the food of the gods. Unfortunately I'm gluten intolerant these days, so I have to put loads of delicious stuff on to disguise the taste of the shit gf toast.
