Toasted tiger bread with butter and jam...lighthearted.

As the title says. Toasted till dark but not burnt tiger bread with lashings of salted butter and a thick spread of extra special strawberry jam. Am I being an unreasonable weirdo with both butter and jam? Or am I a very reasonable buttery jam munching slavery carb muncher? How do you take yours? If you like toast/butter/jam? Or too scared and just toast/jam. 😃

This is just... the conventional way to eat toast. There's nothing unusual about it.

The great Yorkshire shop do a wonderful elderflower and gooseberry jam which I have on buttered low gi cob from Lidl. Also partial to some Lavender honey but always salted butter first whatever the topping!

Wonder if i could get it delivered to Scotland 🤔

The crust on tiger bread is weird, what makes it weird?

I only ever have jam on fresh white crusty bread and butter.

Only marmalade should ever go on toast though......

Farmhouse loaf, thick slices so when both sides are perfectly dark (cooked near flame, no toasters!) the bit between them is still just perfectly fluffy.
Drowned in salted butter, and then, as a savoury fan either marmite (sue me!) or cod roe!
To each there own….

Edited

I'd forgotten about cod roe on toast! My lovely Nanny introduced me to this and it's sooooo good.

Mydahliasareshit · 07/08/2025 19:43

Now pate is a different thing again, as it's blended with fat. Can see no butter needed there.
But duck pate topped with a little smear of plum jam?
That could definitely happen.

Morrisons bakery tiger bread uncut loaf is amazing

FridayNightSinner · 07/08/2025 19:44

sounds like a quick version of scones! 👍

helibirdcomp · 07/08/2025 19:46

I go butter and jam but fresh crusty tiger bread NOT toasted

Breadcat24 · 07/08/2025 19:46

i make a lot of jam but only elderly neighbours eat it these days. Any takers for strawberry, bramble jelly and lemon curd?
If you want to know why I still make it I cannot bear wasting the fruit!

I have butter with chocolate spread, my Dh thinks I'm a weirdo.

I don't however have butter on a bacon butty, that is weird.

I don’t like butter on a bacon butty either - don’t like it toasted either. Has to be back bacon well cooked and bog standard slice white bread. And brown sauce. See, l want one now !!

MightyCrabjoys · 07/08/2025 19:47

Always butter with whatever other topping is being used including peanut butter, chocolate spread and cream cheese. It’s too claggy without butter. One of my DC doesn’t like butter on toast the odd bod.
Tiger bread can get in the bin though, it’s just crappy supermarket bread with a weird tasting crust.

I thought that was normal....butter and jam
I absolutely luv it 🍞 🧈 🍓

There is a sad bit in the book of the Railway Children when one of the children butters his bread and reaches for the jam, and his mother tells him they are poor now and it has to be one or the other from now on.

I’m not keen on tiger bread, but thick white sourdough toast with butter and jam is the food of the gods.

I'm with Richard Osman on sourdough toast. Just, No.

ThisHazelDog · 07/08/2025 19:48

Completely mind blown. I didn’t realise that people had peanut butter on toast with no normal butter. What?
I have recently decided that life is too short for mediocre butter and have started buying the most ridiculous butter I can find, with big flakes of sea salt in, ideally rolled into a cylinder rather than a block. Worth every penny and makes every slice of toast exceptional. Can highly recommend.

Better without the jam.
Or with marmite.

Always butter and jam. My DH has butter with chocolate spread. Now that is gross.

No it's not!!

BeardofHagrid · 07/08/2025 19:51

If anyone wants a treat. Buy a brioche loaf. Slather a slice with clotted cream and jam and devour it with a cup of tea. Dare I say it, it’s much, much better than a scone. 😋

PeonyPatch · 07/08/2025 19:51

butter and jam is marvellous. I also love butter & marmalade on toasted brown bread 😋

Pineapplewaves · 07/08/2025 19:52

I could eat that all day ❤️
