Toasted tiger bread with butter and jam...lighthearted.

As the title says. Toasted till dark but not burnt tiger bread with lashings of salted butter and a thick spread of extra special strawberry jam. Am I being an unreasonable weirdo with both butter and jam? Or am I a very reasonable buttery jam munching slavery carb muncher? How do you take yours? If you like toast/butter/jam? Or too scared and just toast/jam. 😃

Try switching the jam for honey… delicious! 😋

My friend actually said this...I must try!!

Sounds great, except I’d choose raspberry, apricot or blackcurrant jam personally.

I have raspberry jam ready to be opened as soon as the last of the strawberry is done...looking forward to it 😋. I've not tried apricot so thats next on the list.

It has never crossed my mind that people wouldn't butter first. Surely just jam means the toast is still quite dry?

No butter with chocolate spread, cheese spread or peanut butter, they spread well enough themselves but jam?!

sweeneytoddsrazor · 07/08/2025 19:10

I asked this question a while back but with peanut butter not jam. Most people said butter and peanut butter, a significant number said peanut butter and jam.

My go to is usually Marmite but sometimes I have honey. What do people think about butter and honey?

When the butter mixes with the jam and makes it a little creamy, salted taste its so good 😋. If i wasnt sterilised i would think i was pregnant 🤣

Butter and Jam is fucking rank! The butter makes it slimy. One wetness only

Cerialkiller · 07/08/2025 19:14

Wait...there are people who eat jam on bread/toast without butter...just....why?

I like it whacked in the oven for a few minutes ( if it's a day old run it under the tap first to refresh it) then sliced so it's warm but still soft, then butter and jam.

For me toasted bread goes with butter, chocolate spread and peanut butter. The heat will melt the chocolate slightly, lush.

Unfortunately this is a rarity these days as gluten no longer agrees with but I can live vicariously through this thread.

Love it but sometimes butter and lemon curd on good toast just calls to me and in those moments jam (raspberry for my preference unless it’s DM’s homemade strawberry and gooseberry) won’t cut it.

Swap for finest raspberry jam and I’m in

Who doesn’t butter their toast no matter what the toppings? They’re the real weirdos!

Well exactly…without the butter you’d have to use a lot more jam / marmalade as it’d soak into the toast, so the low calorie version is surely butter and jam ;)

Hollowvoice · 07/08/2025 19:17

I have butter and jam (always raspberry though)
DH and the DCs think I'm weird but we all know they are the weird ones, right?

My daughter loves chocolate spread on her toast but ive never actually tried it. Apparently the biscoff one is good too, but shes a heathen, no butter just spread. Bloody weird child. 🤣

Yes, yes they are...maybe switched at birth like mine 😆 🤣

My 4 year old has toast, butter, jam and honey all on a slice.

Just butter for me - I can't stand jam or honey!

Coconutter24 · 07/08/2025 19:19

Tiger bread toasted, butter and peanut butter 🤤

TroysMammy · 07/08/2025 19:19

I'll tell you what is weird but totally fabulous. Butter a digestive or rich tea biscuit, add a dollop of raspberry jam and a piece of cheddar cheese on top.

Toast has to be buttered, thickly and right up to the edges. Then spread with strawberry jam (seedless raspberry will do at a pinch) marmalade (preferably Old English thick cut) Marmite or peanut butter (Whole Earth).

I really, really want toast and jam now but I haven't got any jam 🙁

Ooohhh I do like a buttered digestive with cheese...definitely going to try it with jam, never heard of thst one but definitely worth a taste

Toast, lashings of good butter and jam or marmalade - food of the Gods. I very rarely eat bread or jam nowadays (curse you, type 2 diabetes), but when I do, I have either dark marmalade, lime curd or black cherry jam.

I did see Nigella do her double buttering technique - first layer when the toast is hot, so it melts in, and second layer when it’s cooler, so you get a layer of actual butter. I’ve never tried this, but I do like cool toast, and butter you can leave tooth marks in.

Murfmeister · 07/08/2025 19:22

I prefer it with blackcurrant jam...but I pay dearly afterwards. Damn that gluten intolerance!!! (still worth it though)

Yep, every corner loaded with butter then jam 😋. I've not had marmalade for years..another one for the hit list.

@BreadInCaptivity not sure if this would be your thing but I got a passionfruit and mango curd in Waitrose the other week and it is absolutely divine on toast!
