Toasted tiger bread with butter and jam...lighthearted.

As the title says. Toasted till dark but not burnt tiger bread with lashings of salted butter and a thick spread of extra special strawberry jam. Am I being an unreasonable weirdo with both butter and jam? Or am I a very reasonable buttery jam munching slavery carb muncher? How do you take yours? If you like toast/butter/jam? Or too scared and just toast/jam. 😃

I don't like the smell of tiger bread. But thick bread toasted with salted butter - nothing else - is the food of the gods.

butter and jam is marvellous. I also love butter & marmalade on toasted brown bread 😋

My best friend loves the thick crust off a fresh unsliced large whole meal loaf, thickly buttered and spread with salad cream. Not mayo. Has to be salad cream.

Louisetopaz21 · 07/08/2025 19:55

The butter softens the toast and it has to be homemade apricot or strawberry jam, yummy.

Or butter AND peanut butter 🤢

I have to have a small bit of butter with peanut butter or it gets too claggy in my mouth.

Chokkii · 07/08/2025 19:58

Only on MN does one have to state 'lighthearted' to discuss enjoying some fucking buttered toast Grin

Funnywonder · 07/08/2025 19:58

Yes, butter and jam for me!!

But I’m also a butter and peanut butter kinda gal. Wish I had room for some now …

lcakethereforeIam · 07/08/2025 19:58

I used to like buttered toast with orange marmalade and a little spread of hp sauce. However, I've gone right off hp. I don't know if it's me or if they've changed the recipe.

OneNeatBlueOrca · 07/08/2025 19:59

Realise I have unsalted butter. Will have to go shopping tomorrow

lifeonmars100 · 07/08/2025 20:00

Divine, and I need to buy bread tomorrow so thoughts of this will be in my head as I enter the shop. I try to stay away from tiger bread as is so moreish

Yep butter & peanut butter.

butter & spread regardless of the spread. Unfortunately I very very allow myself toast (a couple if times a year) due to very low carb diet for diabetes control 🥲

But this could get serious 🧐
Which Jam? Robinson? Hartley? Farm shop only?
Which butter? Spreadable or churned by blind Tibetan monks?
Sourdough lovers are already on the defensive, tiger breads crust has been called into question.
And no one’s mentioned Lyles Golden syrup and how it must touch butter or does weird things to your bread.

Its a minefield.

Completely mind blown. I didn’t realise that people had peanut butter on toast with no normal butter. What?
I have recently decided that life is too short for mediocre butter and have started buying the most ridiculous butter I can find, with big flakes of sea salt in, ideally rolled into a cylinder rather than a block. Worth every penny and makes every slice of toast exceptional. Can highly recommend.

I buy a big log of Irish butter wrapped in paper. It’s amazing. Probably not as posh as some of the other ones presented like that, but I’m not a bit posh anyway😆

🤣🤣🤣. Its my guilty pleasure...only one slice per day, always at night so I can enjoy it in peace with no children hurrying me up because they want me to do something.

Toast with lots of salted butter, yes.
Toast with a thick layer of homemade jam (damson ideally, rhubarb also good) also yes.

No to butter with the jam, that's the wrong texture. The jam is plenty moist enough. (I like my jam made to a soft 'continental set' consistency)

Butter with honey or marmite.

No butter with jam, peanut butter, Nutella or cheese on toast.

ImogenBrocklehurst · 07/08/2025 20:06

Butter on toast is the underlay, if you will, before the carpet of jam/marmalade/honey/marmite or whatever is laid. Without the butter it’s a joyless affair.
There’s very little that isn’t improved with butter, to be honest.

CheshireCat1 · 07/08/2025 20:07

Butter, then lime and coconut curd. I also don’t have butter on a bacon butty

Louisetopaz21 · 07/08/2025 20:07

I am completely wild and love jam on yorkshire puddings 😁😁😁

BorneBackCeaselesslyIntoThePas · 07/08/2025 20:07

can I put a vote in for tiger bread and garlic butter? Lovely stuff

ScrambledEggs12 · 07/08/2025 20:09

I don't have jam with butter, but do have marmalade with butter.

Mydahliasareshit · 07/08/2025 20:10

I've now just had two slices of toast, butter and seasalt, on my bed, for my supper.
Look what you made me do.😋

Inchworms · 07/08/2025 20:12

butter on toast with extra salt, toast slightly cooled so butter doesn’t fully melt. I may investigate this double buttering thing.

or jam on toast, but no butter under jam or any spreads, makes it weird

JudgeJ · 07/08/2025 20:12

Flannelfeet · 07/08/2025 19:09

I have raspberry jam ready to be opened as soon as the last of the strawberry is done...looking forward to it 😋. I've not tried apricot so thats next on the list.

Why do you need to wait? I have strawberry, blackcurrant and black cherry jam opened in the fridge. they last for ages there.

alongtimeagoandfaraway · 07/08/2025 20:12

Gluten intolerant now so this is just a wistful memory but tiger bread with cottage cheese and pineapple, eaten after doing the weekly family shop. I could near enough eat the whole loaf!
