On holiday and I don’t know if I’m unreasonable!

I’m really hoping for some perspective here. We are currently in Spain with my friends for a holiday. It’s us ( myself, DH and DC 14,16 ) and my friends ( Kate, Neil, DC 14,17) obviously names are changed. Kate was my friend for a few years through the activities. They invited us for a holiday with them. We booked two different villas about 5min walk from each other and right on the beach. Since we got here, Kate and my DH are spending more and more time together. This is our full third day here, and so far today, they met running at 7am and booked a spontaneous paddle boarding for themselves at 10am. We were all on the beach later and went for a lunch. I went back to the villa to get some plasters and they both turned up. My DH said he is changing his top as he and Kate will walk to the town to get a few bits. All of the DC are spending their time on the beach learning windsurfing with the local club so I don’t need DH to help with childcare. Kate’s husband Neil has a work project to do so he spends about 5 hours a day working in their villa. I’m starting to feel like a 3rd wheel to my friend and my DH. I’m getting grumpy when I’m around them and I don’t want to push him away but I don’t know how to get out of this mood. And another thing which got me thinking is at the dinner, Kate asked for a sparkling water and my DH said he wants some too. He never drank fucking sparkling water but when I pulled him on it, he said it’s because I only drink a still water so he did too. So for years you were drinking still water because of me? Have a sparkling water if you want! Something is feeling odd and I can’t put my finger on it

Well, @DwarfBeans , I think your updated post is brilliant!!!..I've also heard that is exactly what happened...and that last paragraph is pure genius! I guess I can now say, 'poor Kate'Grin
How about a new update with this bit of gossip that Ive just heard since you're so good at this?!.....
A little birdie told me that Neil might not be as enamoured with his dear Kate as it seemed..maybe he didn't need to rush back home for that 'urgent business' but for other things. It might just all be a ruse to cover for nefarious reasons! (Along the lines of the recent thread about the OP who found out her DH has been having an affair for the last 5 years! The scumbag even told her in the beginning that he'd gotten a promotion at work so he would be spending more hours away from home...turns out the evil genius had actually been spending those hours with his 'side piece' !)
Ok, Dwarf, you're up!

@MyLimeGuide you're very welcome, and thank you, for humouring me, also
😂

@Sweetpea1532

Neil reclined his airplane seat and let out a huge sigh of relief. Finally he was free from that insufferable show off. And fortunately, as she was only interested in herself, Kate hadn’t suspected a thing when the ‘office’ called him away from that boring holiday. Neil wasn’t worried about Kate’s flirting, he had bigger fish to fry and he was in it for the long game. Revenge as they say, is a dish best served cold. However, they also say that if you seek revenge you should dig two graves. Neil needed to tread carefully. As he perused the in-flight drinks menu, he plotted his next move.

@DwarfBeans hahahalol...you have me tenterhooks ...!

Here you go @Sweetpea1532 the final instalment 😂

Six months later

Kate’s lastest shag was a sweet but simple guy called Bill, who she didn’t know much about. She loved the way he left little gifts for her, which he dropped into her handbag while she used the bathroom. The latest gift she had only discovered today at the bottom of her handbag was a plain envelope with an invitation to an art exhibition for tonight. Thankfully, Neil was away on business, so Kate hurried to get ready.

When Kate got to the venue she couldn’t see Bill but entered to wait for him in the lobby. A woman took her invite from her, handed her a glass of prosecco and ushered her through the exhibition door. Kate found herself alone in a long, wide, dimly lit corridor. She strolled along looking at all the exquisite abstract paintings, each one of a naked, vaguely familiar, man. Was it Bill? Was he an artist?! A golden light beckoned at the end of the corridor. She made her way towards it.

There she found an exhibition mocked up to look like an office, complete with desk, printer and computer. Above the desk was a huge canvas illuminated with side lights of a beautiful couple entwined, their faces hidden in the shadows. There was a tiny plaque on the wall. Kate fished her glasses out of her bag and as the plaque came into focus she could read the words ‘Divorce Incoming’. Suddenly, the printer began to spit out papers and a message flashed onto the monitor ‘You have been served’. Kate heard footsteps behind her. She spun round to see Neil and Sunny in a tender embrace, each with a glass of champagne raised upwards towards Kate.

The End.

@DwarfBeans you are very good at it!
Back during Covid Lockdowns, several of us took over thread lines when the OP's would disappear. We had a blast and it surely helped pass all that extra time we had on our hands, ..also it seemed like such a shame to waste all those empty posts.Grin

True, just like the cheap newspapers 🤣 I wonder if anyone writes fiction these days or if they just get AI to do it?!

Sweetpea1532 · 29/08/2025 05:50

Yes, you'd have your own byline in the newspaper....article written by our own @DwarfBeans 😂

that AI is very talented at writing, but just doesn't have your same charisma 😂
I wonder what that ole Kate has been up too?

MissHollysDolly · 29/08/2025 07:03
