300 children from Gaza to be brought to the UK for free specialist NHS care

According to the Sunday Times. That's nearly as many beds as there are in Great Ormond Street, where the average waiting time for paediatric surgery is 15 weeks (which is fairly typical nationwide).

Why is it mysteriously possible for government to deliver these showy, headline-grabbing measures (I know we already knew it could happen from COVID policy) but not to just make systems work well in an ordinary way?

Just wondering if we’ll be able to fly Evyatar David over to hospital for help? He needs it too. He is currently a Hamas hostage of course, but surely Hamas will understand he needs help, and release him. I hear that Hamas themselves have lots of food, from the aid packages.

He isn’t a child so I doubt it.

Hamas should still be releasing him unconditionally.

Maybe because Israel bombed their airport in 2002

Let's not get into this, is Palestine innocent in your opinion then? Never done anything wrong throughout history?

Indeed. We shouldn't forget Rom Braslavski held by Islamic Jihad.

Good for you, up here in the north they don't give a shit about keeping our green space

So there isn't a single space in the whole of the north that isn't a building site then. Righto, got it.

Why do you think people would object to them receiving medical care in the UK?

I very much wish he could be.

But the fact that Hamas are abusing him and won't do the right thing by releasing him, doesn't mean we shouldn't do the right thing for these children. They are innocents in this war.

Dududud · 03/08/2025 17:36

How is the government able to fund the money for these treatments whilst waiting times continue to exceed guidance in many, many areas. These children will no doubt have complex needs and will require extensive NHS resources. It's right we help them but how can the Government plead poverty but at the same the same time these treatments. Just to honest: there is funding if it's required.

DuncinToffee · 03/08/2025 17:32

Why do you think people would object to them receiving medical care in the UK?

Well, quite. If there is medical care to be had in the UK, or elsewhere in the West, that is not readily available in the ME, why wouldn't we be flying people to where they can be helped? It really doesn't matter what side those people are on and what colour their skin is. And of course children are always innocents.

Everywhere is having houses built on, which has been proven not to be enough when completed, it doesn't take a genius to work out what I mean, if we have to keep building more there will be no green space left.
But if course you knew that, your just trying to deflect

nearlylovemyusername · 03/08/2025 17:38

PandoraSocks · 03/08/2025 17:26

But you object to "millions" of new houses being built?

Make your mind up, Sweetheart.

The way I understand it - @Sweetheart1990 objects to our green belt being concreted to build houses to host more refugees.

People may agree or disagree with this view, but I don't see why this poster should make their mind.

Eta, your post of 17:25 reveals a lot about you. I don't think we are going to be in harmony on this.

If refugees need housing then surely houses being built are going to house them 🤔 I worry for you ...

We are talking about medical care for injured and dying children. Why does the guilt or innocence of any adults matter at all to you?

Should children ever suffer and be left to die for the crimes of their forebears?

Izzadoraduncancan · 03/08/2025 17:46

I’m posting as a Mum whose child is waiting on surgery in GOSH but we live abroad. Our child is incredibly complex and her care falls outside the capability of our specialist paediatric teams.
We are so grateful GOSH takes on these complex cases, our own government pays and they will be treated like any NHS child - just a bill sent at the end.
The bigger picture is that GOSH also gains knowledge and understanding from these children that down the line will benefit all.

Put it this way, Sweetheart.

There is a very large new estate being built a couple of miles away from me. The houses are very expensive. They are not going to refugees.

No need to worry about me.

As I've stated multiple times on this thread, I don't disagree with helping these children, of course I do not want them to suffer, they are innocent. We should not be taking care of their families forever afterwards because we don't have the infrastructure, every service is at breaking point. I was simply answering someone else who wants to clearly demonise Israel and aft as though Palestine is innocent. All children are innocent yes, but these 2 countries have been at war forever, over nonsense in my opinion.

Thegreyhound · 03/08/2025 17:47

Sweetheart1990 · 03/08/2025 17:13

Everybody wants to see an end to this, and no body wants to see innocent people suffer, in all for helping these children but I think we have to control what happens to them and their families afterwards, it's quite obvious that they will claim asylum and get it, which is not what we need, we cannot keep accepting people into this country. It's not working and the country is on its knees as it is.

If a kid from Gaza where a genocide is taking place shouldn’t get asylum in your opinion then you clearly don’t believe in the concept of asylum at all. It would be hard to think of a more deserving case!

You know that those estates have to have so many social houses built on them, for the council to give to those who need them, it's the only way they can get planning permission. So yes most likely some will be given to refugees because an overwhelming amount of them are on the council list with priority as they are homeless

Thegreyhound · 03/08/2025 17:49

Gloriia · 03/08/2025 16:47

The point is there are rich countries closer to them who have taken many and can afford to take more. We can't afford to even with a charity 'working in parallel' with NHS Drs.

If you don’t want the consequences of a genocide landing on your doorstep then don’t try to justify and defend the genocidal actions all over the internet.

PandoraSocks · 03/08/2025 17:51

And I am very happy about that, if it is happening on the new estate local to me. As you said, we need more social housing for people in need. That includes refugees.
