They might be talking about 'on stage in my heels' - though the venue that the song is inspired by has go-go dancers, not strippers. Go-go dancers do dance on stage in their pants/skimpy outfits, but it's not stripping.

It is definitely taking about a gay bar and one thing you don't get in gay bars, is female strippers.

I just googled their lyrics. Gross.

Of course it’s about a gay bar if boys can be queens. Not sure that part is really up for debate.

I have been power cleaning to this today thanks to this thread. Still love it. My mum was a huge 80s Madonna fan and my dad loved Kate Bush so for me this is a bit of a love child between their synthy beats and high notes.

Didn’t realise it’s been covered a fair bit already, including by some big names. Usually the marker of a true banger.

My daughter is the same. It's pretty catchy.

I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago when I volunteered to play trumpet in a marching band at pride parade and was handed the music for it. Good fun.

I love it and the 4 and 5 year olds I teach love it too. We play it every day at someone's request. Although a parent did say to me that she was a bit surprised to hear her daughter singing about a lesbian strip club. I just pretended I didn't know that context. To be fair the kids think it's it's about pink ponies, and they love the 'baby girl' line too. They often bring the toy babies over to the ponies and sing the baby girl line to the baby and mostly dance with pink ponies for the chorus. It's so cute and innocent.

No. It wasn't. There's a Pink Pony strip club in Atlanta, which is not where she's from. And she has explicitly said it's not about the strip club with that actual name.

It's about her experience of the gay clubs in West Hollywood and how liberating that was for her. The club is a gay club that employs go-go dancers, not a strip club.

Yeah I did a double take at that too! There is only a handful of artists who could realistically be likened to Kate Bush and she ain’t one of them. I think she’s certainly talented, but she’s a million miles away from Kate Bush in every way. And that’s not an insult, just a fact. Even if people think she’s as good as Kate Bush or better, which is their prerogative, the two women aren’t remotely comparable.

There’s a strip club in Springfield, Missouri that was called Pink Pony when she was growing up.

I was in the car with DH the other day and this came on the radio. He looked all confused and said ‘I really don’t get this song. Why is she singing about a big Pony Club?’ He thought it was about a large branch of the Pony Club (or possibly a club for big ponies)🤦🏻‍♀️🤣
