I can't get this song out of my brain by Chappel Roan.
I keep playing it, does anyone else?

I love the song so much. I have sang it (badly) on karaoke a few times.

Oof. That’s a bit like trying to sing a Kate Bush on karaoke.

cheesycheesy · 26/07/2025 23:12

Whining drivel

Wickedgreengirl · 26/07/2025 23:18

Yes! It’s been living in my head rent free for weeks 🤣🤣🤣

HelloTreacle9 · 26/07/2025 23:22

Rick Astley’s version is excellent.

That's not really what it's about at all. It's about her move to California from the arsehole of nowhere and finding a gay bar where people can perform and be themselves. She says it is the first place she felt she could be herself and saw loads of other queer people in a safe space.

It's based on a real club called The Abbey. It's not at all about stripping but i see how people can infer that.

I’ve assumed it’s about stripping, and pretty much change the channel when it comes on when my kids are in the car, the lyrics feel totally ‘yay I was born to be a stripper dancing on a table’

Rick Astley’s version is excellent.

Don’t know about this. Thank you.

VioletandDill · 26/07/2025 23:34

It's a fun, catchy song and the lyrics go right over kid's heads. Though it's about a gay bar where's she's dancing on the dancefloor, presumably. More importantly it's about discovering a place where you can be loud and proud of who you are - 'Where boys and girls can both be Queens, every single day.'

It's a great song, though my favourite is probably 'Red Wine Supernova' or 'Feminominon' (sp).

pontipinemum · 26/07/2025 23:35

I love it!

Those saying it's bad that little girls don't know what they are singing along to. I know now half the songs I sang along to the the 90s/00s were not what I thought they were about

Lamaitresse · 26/07/2025 23:38

We LOVE this song!! It holds so many memories for our family, and every time it comes on the kids and I all sing and dance along, even 18 year old ds 🤣

Charlize43 · 26/07/2025 23:46

I clicked on this thinking it was going to be some sort of sex thing and then I remembered I was on MN.

SeasaltPuppy · 27/07/2025 00:01

I’ve started timing jobs by how many Pink Pony Clubs it takes me. It only took me one to put an entire load of washing away, and two to upload and reload the dishwasher.

Renoonabudget · 27/07/2025 00:03

I think its a great song, and I love the fact that kids can listen to it and quite innocently think its a club about literally dancing with pink ponies. And that any adults paying attention realise its about a gay bar. Super catchy and definately an ear worm!

Also fairly sure I quite innocently listened to "afternoon delight" as a kid and sang along to the chorus, thinking about how wonderful it would be to see a rocket launch lol.

PumpingRSI · 26/07/2025 21:54

We sing it to the baby except we change the words to ‘big baby club’ cause she’s a chonk 😍

This is the most adorable and precious thing I’ve heard all week. ❤️

YankSplaining · 27/07/2025 00:59

Anyone seen the version with Pinkie Pie from My Little Pony?

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 27/07/2025 01:35

I love this song but do you know what song I really hate. Really really hate. And it’s in my head all fucking day long

“I have one daughter….”

arghhhh fuck off

liveforsummer · 27/07/2025 01:39

DC are members of the pony club - it’s become rather an anthem of theirs and I’m sure many, if not all other branches. They are a bit older so know what the song is really about but choose to enjoy it alongside the younger members who think it’s about actual pony club. Helps that it’s so catchy!

WhatASmashingBlouseYouHaveOn · 26/07/2025 21:26

My partner thought the lyrics were ..."your Dad's at the club". I had to point out that it's actually "you dance at the club"....😂 I like his version better.

I like his version better too. That’s so funny🤣🤣

elliejjtiny · 27/07/2025 02:15

It's one of the very few songs that all my dc like. Which is amazing because they never like the same stuff.

“Yourrrr dads at the club, and he’s a pink pony girl”

Abouttoblow · 27/07/2025 03:12

Love the song but OMG she's the most miserable successful singer EVER.
And the way she constantly talks about being a lesbian - as if she's the very first lesbian that's ever existed in the entertainment world.
I just want to scream at her "No one bloody cares, there's been 1000s before you! If you have nothing interesting to say, get a bloody hobby. No one is interested in your sex life. Just bloody sing."
Female version of Sam Smith.

OneSpunkyCrab · 27/07/2025 09:25

If you read the lyrics, it clearly is about being a stripper in a gay bar..

She can give any old back story she likes, it doesn't matter because the lyrics are about a stripper.

It's like people who think they're clever saying that the Rolling Stones song "Brown sugar" is really about drugs, when the lyrics show it's actually one of the most racist, misogynistic songs you'll ever hear and about raping enslaved black women/girls. But people like to think they're clever.🙄

Canonlythinkofthisone · 26/07/2025 21:13

No worse than some of the songs we used to sing to back in the 90s at school discos 🤣🤣🤣

‘I’m horny, horny horny horny’ 😂 need we say more!

What about the song?

She is vile. Once you know that, her songs can’t touch you.

ConnieHeart · 27/07/2025 09:56

steff13 · 26/07/2025 23:02

I'm not familiar with the story of the origins of the song, nor am I particularly interested. But looking at the lyrics of the song it's pretty easy to see how someone might infer that it's about a strip club. Regardless of whether that's accurate, one can see why someone would think that. It doesn't really take much imagination.

Which part of the lyrics?

randoname · 26/07/2025 20:45

Love it.
Also Casual, which has the rudest line I’ve ever heard.
Does she write her own songs? She’s a great storyteller.

What's the line?!
