To think the BMA have misjudged with another doctor's strike? Thread 2

Rolling this over as people still seem to have something to say but no new poll.

Original post

AIBU to think the BMA have misjudged with another doctor's strike?

Last year they got more than anyone else in the NHS along with an improved deal. Nurses and other AHPs received lower rises.

BMA have just announced another 'resident' doctor strike continuing to chase pay restoration to 2008 levels.

Having just had the major win with changes to IMG prioritisation and the clamp-down on PAs it feels a bit tone-deaf and I can't see Streeting going for it.

Source?

But 12,000 UKMGs did apply for specialty training in 2025 along with around 22,000 IMGs = 33000 for 12000 posts.

Also you have still not told us who called you a "liar". Hint the post does not exist.

Edited

Haha @ ‘hint’. Maybe I should have referred to Y6 rather than Y9.

After the allegations about a poster sending PMs to ascertain that poster’s identity in rl (disproved by MNHQ), it’s entirely fair to question what is true and what is not. That’s how it would work in a court.

Edited

This is mumsnet not a court.

@mumsneedwine 's DC did get into specialty training. However. She is an a person that genuinely cares about her students and the plight of others embroiled in the injustice caused by RLMT being abolished and the impact it has had on our bright, young medical graduates.

PurpleFairyLights · 24/08/2025 22:57

Sevillian · 24/08/2025 22:44

That question doesn’t follow logically from anything that I’ve said, so I assume that you’re misdirecting the question.

Not at all. So many of your posts are slagging off UKMGs and UK medical schools so you must have an ideal country in mind that you are comparing UKMGs and UK medical schools with.

Or are you simply spouting rubbish to try to protect the status quo of IMGs outnumbering UKMGs in specialty training applications.

Which one is it?

I don't think mumsneedwine has made anything up. Your behaviour towards her is inappropriate.

mumsneedwine · 24/08/2025 23:04

@PurpleFairyLights is she STILL having a go at me 😂. Getting very sad now. And I thought they'd agreed to stop. MN have all the evidence (was a few years ago now), but the poster concerned disappeared from MN as soon as they were called out and became a 'stranger' to the site.
Still no clue why this person thought it had anything to do with them ??

Thanks for the kind words. Been v busy over on the medicine threads this weekend.

I still can't believe we have consultants in the country who don't support ALL their colleagues. But I suppose that's how the PA mess happened. Good that Leng has put a stop to the dangers of that.

BMA and Wes still in talks. Both seem to understand that training doctors to not then employ them is not a good use of money. And people.

Maybe but you are not in a court of law. You are with a lot of randoms like yourself on an internet forum.

mumsneedwine · 24/08/2025 23:05

@Sevillian what have I made up ? With evidence please. Or else it's just another one of your personal unfounded attacks.

Slagging is a very ugly word PFL.

The answer to your question is neither.

I simply think the government has over extended UK medical school places purely for the purposes of a political soundbite (‘We’re creating x many more medical school places to reduce waiting lists’), and the upshot is that pretty much any middling student can get an offer and graduate despite really not being good enough to do a proper and safe job. That is why I favour filters. It would be fairer on students if the filters were in place at the outset but that’s almost become social history.

The MN medical school application threads exemplify the issue.

13000 UK medical school places instead of 12000 over extended? Are you having a laugh when 22,000 IMGs applying to work in NHS in 2025. IMG applications are over extended.

Which country @Sevillian?

I’m referring to the post which MNHQ deleted. I think it may be against the guidelines to repeat its content word for word but you will be aware of what you wrote and you can of course contact MNHQ to clarify what you wrote as I’m sure their computers will be able to retrieve your original post. I don’t intend to engage with you further in relation to what you wrote.

I’ve no idea what you mean by ‘which country?’ so please don’t waste your time repeating the question.

Which country do you believe has the best medical schools and produces the best doctors?

Obviously not UK so which country are you comparing the UKMGs and medical schools with?

Well I certainly had one deleted recently which poetryandwine said she hadn’t found objectionable.

It’s not your business in point of fact PFL. If mumsneedwine wants to revisit what she wrote she should contact MNHQ. I get the impression other people read it before it was deleted and as I say, I don’t intend to fall foul of MN guidelines to repeat a deleted post verbatim, although I quite easily could.

Could you return to the subject matter of the thread.

Exactly the faux innocence is just laughable. I have zero respect for this poster already so opinion could not be any lower.

Cross post. In fact I’ve addressed my own deleted post twice now. Hopefully that’s sufficient.

Read back in that case. Several consultants and others have been very clear which unis they mean. You keep asking people to repeat what they’ve said, over and over. If you want to know, check back.

Surely the "consultants" have a duty to report to GMC instead of airing their opinions on Mumsnet,?
